Maybe I missed something but I don't recall the anticipated edge-to-edge screen iPhone predicted to have "no home button," but rather a virtual home button instead of an electro-mechanical home button.

I find it funny that Apple do a better job than Samsung than Samsun themselves do with their own parts.

Arguably, they do not. S8 looks pretty nice to me, and at least 5 months ahead (because the fancy all glass edge-to-edge stuff might be restricted to a single larger model as per rumours leaving no 'normal' sized fancy option for us non plus owners) of Apple. I'm edging closer and closer to a S8 curiosity order because I'm struggling to believe Apple will offer me anything like as ground breaking to replace my 7 in September.

I'd prefer if Apple didn't give Samsung any business.

Apple should have purchased SHARP.

Yeah it sucks for Apple zealots that Samsung are still major leaders in component manufacturing. Amongst other markets that Apple don't even operate in.

For the rest of us who don't care where technology advancement comes from as long as it's advancing then this news is inconsequential.

Sharp might be happy they didn't get bought too, considering the recent news with Imagination and what happened with GT.

Have to say this looks nice, but I like the ConceptsIphone mockup better, just go ahead and embed that speaker hole right where it belongs & get rid of that top bezel:

If they sell 70m OLED iPhones in Q4/Q1 15 how many will they sell in total? Isn't it normally 1/3 top o' the range, 1/3 the one that looks like last years' model, 1/3 a small entry-level one ? That would be 200m over the two quarters, which seems a little high… :)

Thanks Samsung for developing, manufacturing and beta testing our OLED panels. We will still say Apples implementation is way better though.

Samsung did not develop OLED panels...they developed manufacturing methods.

Apple probably does it on purpose because psychologically when you cant have something you will want it more. It works but the shortage issues are annoying with Apple.
Conspiracy theory nonsense. There is no device on earth that sells as many as a day 1 iphone. It's amazing they are even able to continually make more every year.

It looks good on the lock screen but having a hole in the video you're watching, or the camera preview, or anything really is going to be annoying pretty quickly IMO :-(

The long wait time for availability of the 7 caused me to just not buy one. I figured 'hey, I've waited this long, may as well just wait until next year." It's the first model of iPhone I passed on. I did the same with AirPods, I was looking forward to a pair, but opted for a different brand of wireless as the wait times are just too long.

this may turn out to be great for Apple because when the next iPhone comes out - they will be plenty on stock - people will likely walk out the store with the phone and Airpods.

well outside game consoles, do you know of any product that would need 7-10 million ready for a launch weekend?
Outside of being prohibitively expensive - building more than needed will hurt Apple stock - let's say they sell 120 M on Q1 - what would the numbers look like on the subsequent quarters?

Can't wait :) Something tells me Apple will implement this way better than Samsung has (i.e. skip the gimmicky curved edges, make it much more attractive).

People were drooling over the Samsung Galaxy S8 design, and I was wondering what was so good about it. However, that "iPhone X" design looks killer!

Lol, would you like to provide evidence of where Apple is selling a higher quality oled mobile display than Samsung currently does please. I too would like to join in the laughter.
Haha. Just you wait. I wasn't talking about OLED panels in particular as there hasn't been an OLED iPhone yet silly boy.

Just you wait.

"Samsung, as we already know, will be Apple's sole OLED supplier, and will provide Apple with the panels."
really didn't know MR has access to the sales contract or are they guessing like everyone else

Samsung has to be the sole OLED supplier if they don't want to have massive returns.
You would simply see the differences between the Samsung OLEDs and the competition.
Dual-sourcing things like modems is fine, nobody will notice that, you can't do this with OLEDs yet.

Lol. "5 months ahead". They do it so it *tries* to compete with iPhone. Never works of course.

Wait it's rumored to be 5.2"? Why the heck would I want a smaller screen size? I understand a smaller phone overall but if the screen goes smaller I might just get an S8

During all these rumors this one is the most troubling. We all want the flagship, but I can't imagine going down in size from the 7 Plus even if the resolution is the same. Just seems like a super odd choice to make the bezel smaller and then not make the screen at least the same size. I desperately hope there is a "Plus" model of this iPhone 8/X or I will have to pass for the 7S Plus.

It's ironic to think back to the news in February 2013, when:

"At a Goldman Sachs investor conference today, the Apple CEO dismissed the idea that [OLED] display technology is something Apple should adopt."

and

Cook, asked if Apple would consider creating devices with larger displays, said that size and specifications are things companies focus on when they can’t “create an amazing experience.”

Opinion man. People have opinions. I personally don't like curved edges, but love the look of the screen and small bezels. It's a damn good looking device. <-- see, an opinion.:)

@coolfactor - and here's another opinion. One I disagree with, but it's an opinion nonetheless. To each his own.

At Apple's scale, artificial shortages would be a very stupid tactic.
