Thanks Samsung for developing, manufacturing and beta testing our OLED panels. We will still say Apples implementation is way better though.

Thankfully Samsung isn't as stupid as some of the users here. 70 million is a pretty decent order by anybodies standards.

Apple probably does it on purpose because psychologically when you cant have something you will want it more. It works but the shortage issues are annoying with Apple.
Not that stupid story again. _Some_ people will want it more. Many, many other people with more important things in their life than a phone will lose interest.

Wait it's rumored to be 5.2"? Why the heck would I want a smaller screen size? I understand a smaller phone overall but if the screen goes smaller I might just get an S8
Typo I think as other news items said the 5.5" phone will be OLED and Editon.

Have to say this looks nice, but I like the ConceptsIphone mockup better, just go ahead and embed that speaker hole right where it belongs & get rid of that top bezel:

The concept iPhone you like is nothing but make-believe science fiction made-up by someone with a photo editing/modeling package and too much time on their hands; why would you even give it a serious second thought?

Maybe wishful thinking, but hopefully pricing will be as follows:

7S $549-749
7S Plus 649-849
iPhone X (or whatever) 749-949

Some premium model well above $1000 would be terrible.

I don't believe that at all. There are plenty of things rare to find out there, that I can afford but I have zero desire to buy them. I think most people who buy an iPhone have it planned long before, they don't just decode based on how it is selling and how easy is to find. And I bet you Apple want to sell as many as possible and by holding stock they may just loose customers who aren't completely decided on what to get, specially with competition having some great phones like Galaxy 8 who even me as an Apple fan am tempted to get.

It's really 5.8" but due to some of the display being used for the virtual home button the display will be more like 5.2". You've got to take into account the fact that the virtual home button will probably disappear during videos, playing games, scrolling web pages, etc. to maximize usable space.

I'd guess they'll do something similar to what Samsung did with the S8 and make the home button area pressure sensitive so that you can "press" the button even when it's hidden like when you're watching videos and it'll still take you home.

It wouldn't surprise me if they price this close to $1500.

Apple can officially kiss my a$$ if that's true. The Note 8 will be a better deal.

That's not how Android OEM's do it. Even with onscreen buttons they always count the total display area. Plus it would look better on paper to brag about the larger screen with home button that disappears.

Arguably, they do not. S8 looks pretty nice to me, and at least 5 months ahead (because the fancy all glass edge-to-edge stuff might be restricted to a single larger model as per rumours leaving no 'normal' sized fancy option for us non plus owners) of Apple. I'm edging closer and closer to a S8 curiosity order because I'm struggling to believe Apple will offer me anything like as ground breaking to replace my 7 in September.

Go on then. Be sure to report back here. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in knowing how you get on with the fingerprint scanner on the back and if it really is true that you can easily defeat the facial recognition.

Carrier financing opened the gate for these crazy prices. Sure, 950$ to 1,400$ sounds like a lot for a phone but not when they hide it as 45-60$ a month over the course of the agreement. Look at AT&T, their non-phones cost 60-150$ more then other carriers or even the OEMS themselves. Why, because they can.

I'd say it's likely Apple can sell every iPhone 8 it makes and possibly beyond that 70 million unit number. I really am curious as to how many Galaxy S8 units Samsung can sell because they have so many other smartphone models for sale and then there's going to be the refurbished Note 7 and the new Galaxy Note 8. All those offerings would seem to weaken the demand for the latest S8. Besides, the S8 is a fairly expensive flagship and Samsung's customer base for models that expensive could be small. I wonder if Samsung is counting on S7 users upgrading. That's a tough call. I'm not wishing any bad luck on Samsung. I'd prefer if Apple made the iPhone (X) good enough for many users of older iPhones to have a desire to upgrade.

It's ironic to think back to the news in February 2013, when:

"At a Goldman Sachs investor conference today, the Apple CEO dismissed the idea that [OLED] display technology is something Apple should adopt."

and

Cook, asked if Apple would consider creating devices with larger displays, said that size and specifications are things companies focus on when they can’t “create an amazing experience.”

And your point is? Apple has always been that way. Same goes for the video iPod ,the smaller iPad, the pencil and countless other examples.

Because Apple wants to make a physically smaller device. The iPhone 8 is purported to be the same size as the iPhone 7 (the height of the device approx 138mm). That's smaller than the smallest Galaxy S8 (148mm). For usability, a smaller device is still more ergonomic.

If it does look like iPhone X concept shown in this article, will this mean apple is now stealing from samsung ?

I don't really see anything "premium" about the rumored iPhone 8. It is definitely a flagship, but still it is simply bringing the iPhone back to parity with what Samsung is already offering. If anything Apple has let the iPhone languish just like it has the Mac computer line and needs to step up its game to regain its position as a leader and innovator.

This is what the iPhone 7 should have been and the 10th anniversary should be bringing a major overhaul of iOS to introduce features worthy of a device 120 times more powerful than the original iPhone the now outdated OS was designed for.

This sounds like more of Tim Cook's product fragmentation into luxury and basic models as opposed to Steve Jobs' philosophy of making the best device possible that has the widest audience. Tim Cook is the new John Scully.
