If this rumor pans out and Apple won't make a special arrangement with Microsoft (I don't see that coming), there's one thing consumers stand to lose and that is free Microsoft Office.

Why would Apple make their new iPad despite that (core editing is free for consumers on devices with screen sizes smaller than 10.1)? Or, perhaps they are going to make it because of that (more AppStore money on the back of MS Office sales)?!

I don't think few people care or even know about it.

Apple wants to help artificially kill the mini, just like they did for the iPod touch by not offering updates then claiming sales were too low.

They obviously hate that the mini brings down the average selling price of the iPads, oh, excuse me, iPad devices.

Definitely pretty tough to lug that iMac around for Pokemon Go!

lol I own a MBP and never ever played Pokemon . Sorry bud

Also, are iPads even in demand anymore? I haven't touched the one I bought in 2010 in a good 3 years because it's just not that useful when you have an iPhone and a Mac.
My company-issued laptop gets all my work done. For personal use, music, photos, email, games, social, movies, books etc. I use my iPad Air 2. For me it is perfect. Not to mention easy to carry around the house.

10.5 inch it is for me:); same form factor as the 9.7 Pro, more screen size, faster processor running the A10X chip, hopefully more RAM & a lot more goodies , that's my cue to upgrade from Air 2.

That said its not looking cheap:rolleyes:

And they will justify it that only power users actually need a Desktop/Laptop, anyone else can live with an iOS device.

Considering that the A9X performs about the same as a 2013 Core i5, I think the "power" part of it really just comes down to whether or not software companies choose to release the features of their desktop software on iOS, not that it couldn't support them.

It is as frequently updated as the bigger ones.

It's "popular", because it's cheap.
It's also "popular" because it's easy to hold. While in use the mini is always in my hands, just like the iPhone. It only rests on another surface (living or otherwise) while charging. Foolish to dump the mini.

Of course 4 iPad sizes.

These are your new laptops folks.. Apple is done making laptops. They will be replaced by iPad Pro's and iPads

This is Tim's visionary prowess and legacy. iPads replacing computers and smart watches.

There's a place for both, but not as pillars of your product line.

As much as he loves his iPad, iOS isn't ready for tasks beyond emails. Tim needs to admit it's not catching on and get the Mac lineup back on track.

If true that a new 10.5" iPP is coming, no reason to assume this will be a 4:3 screen again.

Easy math, this likely would be a 264 ppi 3:2 screen, at 1536x2308 (that's a slightly wider iPad 9.7" in landscape, same height). That's almost like two iPad mini 7.9" screens jointed together (in physical measures, not pixel-wise ofc), just as the iPP 12.9" screen is almost like two 9.7" iPad jointed screens, so but this time we have an exact 3:4 + 3:4 = 3:2.

3:2 would probably still be very manageable at this size for a handled tablet, and now that iOS allows side-by-side apps, the 130 points gained in width in landscape would be very welcome for a device aimed at pro tasks, and allow to create a wider keyboard.

I'll buy a pro, when it comes in a Mini size.
My large phone is not substitute. The iPad Mini Pro is the perfect size as a notebook replacement.
No mini pro, means I won't be buying anything anytime soon.

iPads are mostly being used as media consumption and casual gaming devices. That's why people don't feel the need to upgrade them every year or two, and thus, why tablet sales have levelled off in recent years. Once everyone's got one, and there isn't a compelling reason to upgrade, sales will fall off.

While I'd love a faster and more capable iPad (my old iPad 4 just barely works these days, and only if i run a single app at a time), what I really need is a new MacBook Pro, 13" Retina, with the new MacBook's keyboard, please.
