Guys, this frightens me. Phone screen sizes are closing in on tablets, tablets screen sizes closing in on laptops and MacBooks are not getting any updates. Above all that, Apple keeps banging on that bs that tablets will replace our computers.

What if they suddenly say, ''We're out of the Mac business." :D

Then I suppose we'll be out of the buying anything from Apple business :p
At least I will.. The only reason I'm all in with Apple is because they make Macs which can also run windows programs. A computer is the central part of everything I do. It'll be back to MS and a side of android since MS can't do mobile.

I'm not sure many feel that way but iOS by itself isn't something I really want. I'll always see mobile as complimentary or supportive to the main OS i use which is macOS or windows.

3 years ago, that would have scared me too. But as it is now, new macs will only run the latest OSX and the latest OSX is becoming more and more crippled to be as limited as iOS (to help push iPad as a computer).

It is already inevitable that you will have to switch either to a iPad or a windows Laptop sooner or later. And compare the 15" macbook pro to a comparably priced MSI GS series laptop. The MSI has a similar size and weight, but at that price, a 4k touch screen (cheaper if you don't care for touch), SSD+HDD combo, high-end graphics chip (GTX 970m in that price range, GTX 960m and your computer will be cheaper than a mac). A better, newer CPU. Plus user-replaceable memory, battery, and storage.

Once you accept that Apple wants you off of OSX anyway and start looking around, you realize the hardware options in the windows world today are as magical as anything Apple ever had in the golden age of macs.

I don't know what they would gain with a 10.5 inch iPad. I do agree that they need to take a hard look at the mini and see if it is still a viable product for them in their lineup.

They would force users into a whole new lineup of cases, covers, etc. It's all about selling accessories and adapters now. The hardware is just to encourage accessory sales.

And a new size makes it easier to spot who has the new iPad vs who's still using an old one, so the fashion crowd will fall all over themselves trying to get their hands on the new size so everyone knows how special they are.

If Apple ever develops a version of Logic for the iPad Pro I may say goodbye to my laptop and desktop machines all together.

Good luck running any amount of plugins whilst recording onto the iPad hard drive/memory space and connecting to a decent pro audio interface.
I too use Logic, along with Ableton and a plethora of other music software.

I also use 3D programs, edit video and do a lot of photo editing. I wish Apple would stop putting profits above pro users and get their Mac's updated sharpish. iPad's and iPhone's are ok for some creativity but the mbp and OSX is way ahead in capability for most of us.

Is actually love an in between size! I have the 12,9" and love t but sometimes it's a bit too big. The 9.7 though is too small now.. Something in the middle should be perfect!

The iPads have always been the worst for watching movies because of their 4:3 ratio display, since most movies are 16:9, and some are even wider, making the 9.7" display tiny in comparison.

16:9 wouldn't make sense for something that is also intended to be used for books, magazines, comics, and standard office documents. I'm not aware of any 16:9 tablets that are wider than the 12.9" iPad Pro either, so is there really an option that provides a significantly larger viewing experience?

My mac collects dust.

Definitely pretty tough to lug that iMac around for Pokemon Go!

Please tell me this is sarcasm .. the rumor indicates it would be not even an inch larger than the 9.7, so it's not even going to be something you'd notice unless holding it directly next to the 9.7.

If this is true, this is just dumb. This is already an iPhone I'll be skipping, now they're possibly going to convolute the iPad line even further? Good lord.

If it was the same physical size with smaller bezels and a larger screen I'd upgrade my Air 2. The Pro 9.7 wasn't enough of a difference for me to upgrade.

Doesn't make any sense to me. The differences between 9.7 inch, 10.5 inch and 12.9 inch are too small. Plus, the Mini is in my opinion the perfect size for people with smaller iPhones (the SE is only 4.0 inch) who don't want a large iPad (meaning, larger than 7.9 inch).

I have not read every single reply, but there was some chatter about how the Mini may go. I hope this is not the case, as I'm going to look to upgrade my Mini 2 over the next year. The 7.9" screen is perfect for me since I primarily read NYT, along with some video consumption on the go.

I think that they will go for just two models. iMac which will be a mix between the current iMac/macMini/MacPro and Macbook (which will be a replacement for Macbook Air and Macbook Pro). They will justify that if you need power you don't need mobility, and viceversa. And they will justify it that only power users actually need a Desktop/Laptop, anyone else can live with an iOS device.

I think it will be:
iMac --> less powerful, current price
iMac Pro --> very powerful, you need to give an arm and a leg to buy it. Don't forget to option your soul for some future upgrade.

Macbook --> basically the current one
Macbook (Pro?) --> identical with Macbook, just more powerful and pricey.

This right here. The 10.5 will be the same physical size as the current 9.7 with less bezel. The current 9.7 form factor (thick bezels) will remain as the budget/last year iPad.

They will not have a 9.7 and 10.5 in the same generation/form factor.
