I'm profoundly disappointed to see Apple explore a product mix that makes no sense to core long time Apple users. Are we at the point when the ghost of Steve Jobs gets called back to clean up the epic mess Tim Cook has wrought?
I think you are spot on. New 10.5 will probably not have the old Smart Keyboard support but keep Apple Pencil. Still more crowded than I would like but hey, it’s better than the Mac lineup. If this is true the current 10.5" iPad Pro will be discontinued and replaced by this new 10.5" iPad with a switch from A10x to A12 chip and probably no other changes. Pricing either the same or a slight drop to $599 US.
The 10.2" iPad (I still have my doubts that Apple will change the screen size on the entry level iPad from 9.7", but I guess we'll see) will be a spec boost only (likely A11), at the same price point.
So do customers. And employees. And shareholders.
Those who find happiness by trolling on MacRumors? Not so much.
The Apple you want is NEVER coming back. Get used to it. The board loves Tim.
Getting riled up (at Apple) upon the first rumour of something seems a bit like an overreaction. Let's wait a bit and see how this rumour plays out (ie, is more information coming out confirming it or not).Apple for the last few years: "Let's throw EVERYTHING at the wall and see what sticks!" And by everything, I mean mostly rehashed products, with the exception of a few nice new things like AirPods. Having 10.5" and 10.2" regular iPads is the dumbest thing I've heard in some time. Hope it's not true because I feel like it's a sign of deeper troubles under the hood at Apple.
This is what they should do:
Done. Simple. The two 11" and 8.9" could even share the same display resolution as the math works out to the 264ppi/326ppi of the current iPad and Mini. Would simplify things for developers.
- 12.9" iPad Pro
- 11" iPad Pro
- 11" iPad (slower than Pro, thicker, missing a few features compared to Pro)
- 8.9" iPad (Mini with larger display and thinner bezels, slightly larger physical size)
No, the 2018 9.7” will be discontinued and replaced by the 2019 model, which will be 10.2”.
So three iPads and two iPad Pros. Apparently way too many choices for some. I hope for their sake they never have to shop for a car, there are somewhat more than five to choose from.
Because you sit on the BOD, right? LMAO.![]()
They really could just halt new ipads of any sort besides the outdated mini until next year..............its time for a major software overhaul for the iPads period..........
Yep. I use my iPad Pro 10.5 with Notability and it’s the best thing since sliced bread. It has greatly improved productivity from all facets of school work. If it were not for the courses that require laptops, which are only two at this point, I would not be using my MacBook Pro at all. I intend to replace my 10.5 with the 11” iPad Pro next Summer.Literally everything you listed does not matter to the overwhelming majority of consumers. You’re also completely talking out of your rear regarding engineered obsolescence.
I defend Apple a lot on here, but I have to agree, from the Mac laptops and iPads, Apple appears utterly confused. Should be:I'm profoundly disappointed to see Apple explore a product mix that makes no sense to core long time Apple users. Are we at the point when the ghost of Steve Jobs gets called back to clean up the epic mess Tim Cook has wrought?
This whole forum really can't be satisfied, honey..."Confusing" as in product differences that would take a few minutes to figure out and offer consumers more choice? This forum really can't be satisfied.
How about the 12.9-inch iPad Pro at $799?How I would personally consolidate:
- 9.7-inch iPad: starts at $329 with 32GB, A10, Lightning, 1st generation Apple Pencil, Touch ID
- 7.9-inch iPad mini 4: starts at $399 with 128GB, A8, Lightning, does not support Apple Pencil, Touch ID
- 10.5-inch iPad Pro: starts at $649 with 64GB, A10X, Lightning, 1st generation Apple Pencil, Touch ID
- 11-inch iPad Pro: starts at $799 with 64GB, A12X, USB-C, 2nd generation Apple Pencil, Face ID
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro: starts at $999 with 64GB, A12X USB-C, 2nd generation Apple Pencil, Face ID
- 7.9-inch iPad mini: starts at $329 with 64GB, A10X, Lighting, 2nd generation Apple Pencil, Touch ID
- 10.5-inch iPad: starts at $399 with 64GB, A10X, Lightning, 2nd generation Apple Pencil, Touch ID
- 11-inch iPad Pro: $100 price cut to $699 with 64GB
- 12-9-inch iPad Pro: $100 price cut to $899 with 64GB
Me too!Another reason for the BOD to implement a timeline to replace Tim. Enough of the candy canes, and jellybeans. I want Apple back.![]()
How about just allowing Mac OSApple:
Stop with the new iPad hardware.
The iPad needs SOFTWARE work.
The hardware is exceptional and has been for a long time now.
Please. Work. On. Software.
Do people still buy iPads? They're so overpriced for all the imposed limitations with lack of mouse support, true background multitasking, Kodi, emulation, VP9 codec for YouTube, file manager, torrent clients, etc. And, engineered for obsolescence so Safari browser stops working on modern sites after iOS updates stop while gimping 3rd party browsers like Firefox and Chrome.
Not for a high margins at all costs company like Apple apparently. Most phones already start with 128GB today. Isn’t 32Gb not obsolete yet?
Yes! You had a choice in each of the categories. Good, better and best.
There is too much too chose from now. You’ve old, older, oldest; stiff and bendable; the normal and the pro models (what’s the difference except a bit more speedier but same software?).
But they all have one thing in common: they won’t come cheap![]()
