Wouldn't run iOS like was suggested by the post I was replying to. ;)

Sorry, don't understand what you mean by it "wont run IOS". I'm not saying it will run osx. Just have the power of an iMac.

Will have the ATV interface but have a built in iSight camera etc like a Mac. It will be a fully interactive TV.

MacBook Air Pro

w/ Touch screen.

And a free bunny.

The bunnys of course will only be available in black, until a year later when White ones are offered to boost sales :D

Well considering that Apple tv has been selling pretty 'well' I think Apple can now see that it has some good potential.

It has to be a TV line. Apple can't just have 3 new touch-screen computers. That will kill off iPad and other Macs. Remember, Apple like things very simple. They don't need anymore computers. This is a great time to step into a new category and leave their Apple tv hobby to make it a real competitive product line. Plus Apple makes much more off Apps, Music, Movies, TV shows in a long run. Apple tv that runs iOS and Apps can push iOS even further.

If it's a TV it has to have more functionality than just being able to connect to iTunes and stream netflix. I have an ATV2 and I loved it... until I bought a Roku2 XS. That thing has WAY more functionality than the ATV2. And besides, there are already TV's on the market that can connect to the internet and streaming services. They are going to have to do better than that to charge what I am guessing will be Apple's typical premium.

Not to mention all the investment in lcds they've been making, and maybe the new "Mac" line rumor isn't completely accurate either, maybe it's just a new line rumor, or going for more than semantics, since ios is osx at the core, Atv is also a Mac in way...

MacTV

Just a massive iMac but with literally no hard drive just running ATV and all the rest of you stuff from the cloud.

The remote will be like a touch and you launch programmes straight from that.

I'm salivating just thinking about it. :p

Then it should be called iTV rather than MacTV if doesn't run OSX. Besides it needs a keyboard too in order to run professional apps like, office, photoshop, finalcut etc.

I'm not going to tell you how I know this, haha

Here's a hint,

- It will be a 100% cloud-based device

Oh god (iSteve) PLEASE let it be a system between a macmini and iMac, something like an iMac without the monitor.

I always wanted something stronger than mini, but without the monitor of iMac (because I work in printing and I want to replace it with a better monitor anyway). And no word for the macpro, too much power and too expensive for me right now.
It doesn't have to be ultra small, this will save us from the extra cost of the engineering to make it small.

This Story seems irrelevant without a time frame.

Anyone can say that Apple is going to introduce a new Mac Line in the Future.

This to me is only news if they plan on doing it soon.

I thought the article did mention something about the end of he year!?

When it says a new product, I think it has to be something other than the ones already appearing in the mrket. Redesign of any current product is not something I will consider as new... Thus, I will go for the TV or Projecion system. Most likely be the TV though...

I agree!

But that's the way Apple s going isn't it? Or so we are to believe?

Like I said earlier, iOS and OS X have always shared and will share a lot of sub-systems and infrastructure. Apple isn't going there, they already are there.

The merging of Finder and Springboard won't happen as long as the input paradigms are different between iOS devices and Macs.

But let's face it, a MacTV with OS X doesn't make much sense. People don't want a computer for a TV. And smart TVs really are having a hard time catching on. Companies have been at it, trying to make the TV smarter, since the 90s. Web browsers, chat systems, games, "interactive TV", the most that is catching on is built-in TV guides.

An iOS based TV with some form of integrated game console/PVR/Rental service would work, but then again, why limit yourself to people who buy your model of TV ? Just sell something ... like oh say... the Apple TV which uses HDMI to interface with any old TV out there. Much wider audience then.

And if I may ask, your HP Tablet, did you get that in the recent fire sale? It is yet to drop in the UK and is still priced at it's cost before HP dropped it. :(

Yep, 149$ for the 32GB model, I would never have plucked down 400$+ for a tablet, I don't even know what usefulness it has (I used it all of 2 minutes to browse the web since buying it 3 days ago).

Apple don't care about Pro users. The Mac Mini is the cheap headless mac.

I couldn't help but continously re read the sentence , are you sure it is Apple don't, I disagree and think its Apple doesn't. Doesn't fits with third person subjects and Apple should be in third person.

Does anyone else see this mistake or am I delirious?

We have seen patents and web registrations for apple pico, but I am not sure how that would be a new mac product?

A $149 tablet would make for a cool theater system remote, if the option existed

New line will be MBA and iMac only. MBP, Mac mini, and Mac pro all phasing out to keep things simple.

Thin client

24" i-Terminal for all your cloudstuff.

I'm with this guy - Apple just built a massive data centre and they have plans to expand it. If this "New Computing device" rumour is true, then maybe this new device would be similar to what used to be known as a thin client. It would use the iCloud service for its storage so wouldn't need a big SSD and could possibly even use iCloud to load parts of the OS or other software. It would probably be an 18" to 20" touch screen device to start with, angled like a keyboard, perhaps with a keyboard built in. Imagine laying the iMac down make it the same shape in profile as the Air and putting a keyboard where the big silver bit is at the moment.

This kinda thing would be something really new, not just a new Mac in a different case. Think Different people!
