For some reason, the newer (or non-numeric?) aluminum Apple keyboards don't feel as nice as the older aluminum ones. I think they switched to a cheaper kind of plastic for the keys. The one I've got is, surprisingly, my favorite thing to type on. Even faster for typing than mechanical keyboards because my fingers can glide across it quickly since the keys are thin.

Well put! You can buy a fake Rolex, but it's not a Rolex!

I am super surprised they would put our a gold sports watch, really would reduce the appeal of a 10k watch. But then again... maybe they will give up on the 10k market
I don't think it will be a problem of drawing away Edition Gold/(Platinum? tk) buyers for a sport version. Totally different buyer - spending $10K or UNDER $0.5K. The luxury demographic will still want the real thing. And the 'gold-colored' versions will not look like real 28 carat gold. The new sport color options are just that - new color choices for people who are in the market to spend under $500.

Precious metals are more scarce and therefore, more expensive. If Aluminum were rarer, THEY would be the most expensive metals and highly valued. People don't buy gold and diamonds because they are going to do something additional, they do so because they want of the beauty and the rarity of the object. No spray paint is going to satisfy someone who has the means and wants a really classy edition. Spray paint simply craps up a decent $350 model.
Also - some of gold's 'value' is its incorruptibility - it does not degrade or oxidize, unlike so many other metals. Looking at the history of the metal's use (mostly decorative/jewelry - it is too soft for anything much else), I think that the symbolism of something which does not degrade with time is part of gold's underlying appeal to many people.

Is this what you'll do?

Yes!

So, you are in a forum about the computers/tools with the highest profit margin, and possibly the most expensive computers on the regular market and say what you said? How so?
You don't need clothes. You don't need a computer. You don't need electricity. Go live with the Amish and donate the rest to charity.
Oh, and giving money is overrated. Important, but overrated. Give time and skills; go volunteer or work in the non-profit world for a lower wage.

You are completely right about Apple products being expensive and I am happy to say I own only an iPad which I bought years ago cheap. The same argument I put forward does go for people buying to many of the same product category as well now you mention it... People that buy an iPhone an iPad mini, iPad Air, MacBook and iMac because they feel they need that many computers to fill every crevice of their life... Greedy.

Your reductionist argument is quite silly. To chastise someone about gold is as asinine as chastising someone for owning an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You're on this site so it's reasonable to assume you own one or more of those products None are needed in a pedantic sense but I bet you can justify your spend. Do yourself a favor. Put that rock down else someone toss a stone at your glass house.;)

One! Not more! An iPad bought cheap ages ago to perform basic tasks such as checking email and browsing the web, paying bills etc.

You don't need any of the products Apple sells, nor do I. Yet you seem to feel you are somehow the arbiter what excessive indulgence is or is not.

Excessive indulgence is more than one needs, it's being greedy!

Funny that you're here lecturing about your supposed altruism, comparing basic necessities for survival vs luxuries in life, here on a forum about Apple products...surely you see the irony here.

Not really, I own one modest device!

There seems to be a pattern here, people arguing one evil with another. Speak for yourselves regarding how many expensive Apple devices you own and how many luxuries you indulge in, and don't make presumptions about someone you don't even know... One old iPad is not even on the same scale as overpriced jewellery that does nothing but "look good" or a gallery of overpriced computers when all you really need is one! Yes, I do treat myself sometimes, but my treats are reasonable, modest and not over the top, selfish and greedy! That's the problem with today's world, everyone wants all the "luxuries" and that's why humanity is in disgusting amounts of dept and the banks and corporations rule the globe! There's only so many resources and nearly eight billion people littering this earth so it's time people learned to be more conservative. You all sit there and say how terrible it is what's happening in the rain forrest and how bad pollution is bla bla, but you won't stop contributing to it will you... We are all the cause.

And anyone getting aggravated at what I'm saying is clearly one of the aforementioned types getting their back up to justify their over consumption.

Looking forward to seeing the new keyboard.

For the watch I would be more interested in new prices. I want to like it but It doesn't do anything that I can use to justify paying $520 for the model I like the least. I think these new finishes are a measure to try to deal with flagging sales. If that's the case I don't believe more finishes will be enough.

Seriously though, the reason people buy the gold watches is because they have more money than brains.

fixed that for you.... ;)

In all seriousness, though, IMO, it's one thing to invest thousands in an heirloom watch, it's completely another to invest thousands in tech that will be outdated in 6-12 months. Unless you have 'stupid money' of course.

Exactly. Though I think that by releasing a "gold" Sport model, they're making the "Real" gold Edition model even less special. I really, really don't think they'll come out with a gold Sport model.

Watch me eat my words though.
I don't think there's much cannibalization there. If you run in circles that would wear a real $10k watch, you wouldn't be caught dead in a gold colored aluminum watch. If you run in circles that wear the Sport watch, nobody will think it's really gold.

Rationalize your spend, criticize others. Hypocritical, yeah just a bit. BTW, cheap is relative to one's circumstances. Your cheap iPad could be considered an unreasonable purchase, you know, by one of those people you seem to be championing by chastising everyone else.

Don't make presumptions about someone you don't even know. Or in your case, a lot of someones you don't know. Taking your own advice would be a great thing to do. It's actually good advice.

Reasonable to whom? Modest relative to what? Not over the top, selfish or greedy? I don't know bud. From here your indignation seems a bit over the top. Not to criticize, but you're hogging all the faux righteousness and using more than your fair share of rationalization to make your choices justified. Who's being selfish and greedy now?

Again, take your own advice Matt. Stop judging; both others so harshly and yourself so reasonably.

Mark confirmed no OLED in new iPhones. This is absolutely absurd. Apple is becoming the company the haters paint it out to be. Outdated and stale
Why? I never understand when people specify a technology rather than a need. Users have needs, engineers fill needs with technologies. Screaming that you want a flux capacitor isn't going to get Apple to listen. They need to know what you intend to do with it.

It's not like Apple isn't aware of OLED-- they clearly don't think the current OLED tech best serves the needs of their users.

Yes!

Wow! Didn't realize that Bernie Sanders was on this site.

You're definitely right. What I mean is that the Edition clearly stands out against the others. With a gold Sport, not so much. Save for the shininess, the two would look nearly identical.

Just out of curiosity, why wasn't a number pad included with the wireless keyboard from the get go?
From what I've seen elsewhere, I'd guess at least part of the reason is to use with iPads. It just makes it more portable.

There's an angry contingent who think number pads are evil and outdated, but that contingent is probably matched by the people who think they're indispensable. Apple kept the number pad on their wired version, and removed it from their wireless-- I'm guessing it was an iPad decision when they were pushing iPad as an alternative to computers.

LOL! Looks like Matt just fell off of that high horse he rode in on.

I get aggravated seeing less than 10% of the world rolling in so much money they don't even know what to do with, and 90% just living like slaves to consumerism, then there's the people in outright poverty and it all just seems so wrong... I respect your opinion though and take some of your points under my wing. It's just very unsettling seeing how much some spend on jewellery and cars when that money could buy several homeless people a house... Just a dog eat dog unfair world I guess, and I had better get used to it.

I'm sorry this opinion upsets you all so much, but I just feel sorry for those less fortunate! I may portray someone who cares not for others, but on the contrary, I care about others a lot... Guess that gets you flamed around these parts as riding a high horse... Oh well, I've learned my lesson. At least I had the courage to speak my mind... Can't knock a fellow for having an opinion.

That's why the Gold Apple Watch is a waste of money because people can spray paint the apple sports watch. No point in spending $10,000+ just because the color is gold. It's made out of real gold but it doesn't have any advantage if other people can easily paint their watches Gold.

I think the concept of jewelry must be lost on you.
