Why not just display the Emojis based on the colour of my iPhone?
Its obviously that 99.9% of black iPhone owners have dark skinned skin, and about the same percentage of white iPhone owners have skins in the RGB colour range 0xFEFEFE -> 0xFFFFFF

iPhone 5c users, they obviously more interested in waving 'rainbow flags' if you know what I mean , wink, wink, ;)

( Y'see, I'm not being racist I'm being homophobic by suggesting the iPhone 5C owners like to kiss and cuddle human sapiens of the identical gender to themselves because iPHONE5C comes in lots of colours THEEND )

Dat gold phone tho.

Nope, you missed the point of the image, and you're still wrong.

Thanks for playing! Try again next week.

Oh, and by the way, your privilege is showing.

First up, having read my post again it read a lot more smart-assey than I intended, so sorry for that.

For what it's worth, I'm more interested in your opinion, than in links to pictures, videos or articles that others have created.

However, 'white privilege' is still a gross over-simplification. "White people" can and do suffer from religious, nationalistic, sexual, class/social or homophobic discrimination, just like everyone else. So they would be naturally empathetic to anyone suffering from discrimination.

It's true that sometimes it's difficult to see things from others' viewpoint (I'd guess most caucasians here didn't give much thought to the lack of diversity in the Emojis) but that's true of everyone. It's not a trait of "white people".

I don't care what they add, I just hope we can get at least a few dozen more emoji applications in the App Store!

Not a problem, and I agree that white privilege is an over-simplification to a really big problem with white people in America. Not giving much thought to diversity IS scientifically a white people problem. One that's been defined by white people.

There's a good deal of discussion there, I don't think the thread . . . or Macrumors for that matter, is ready to go there yet.

In the end and what I was really getting at with the first quote I made about the comic is that saying Black Power or I like being black is a tool used to reverse centuries of belittlement, bigotry, and racism. It's like saying Gay Pride.

Saying, "I like being white" was never an issue and won't cause someone to think you're a white supremacist, but saying, "White Power!" will. The comic is a joke, but the poster that put it up clearly meant it as a cheap shot toward how African Americans (and other minorities) perceive the US.

Coming in late.

Haven't read a thing (too busy).

But I just wanted to give my certified, liberal, PC-loving thumbs up to the idea of racially diverse emoji.

Everyone in the world isn't bright yellow.

Actually, I don't think anyone in the world is bright yellow.

Wouldn't it be better to just keep emoji that way?

It depends on whether or not folks wouldn't mind all of the emoji being a light brown instead.

A lot of fictitious characters are portrayed as yellow, but in many cases that's because lighter complexioned folks wouldn't look good in hues of pink on white paper.

Frankly, I wouldn't care if they were ****** brown. People that get their panties in a wad over crap like this really need to concentrate on more important aspects of life.

Jeez.

it makes no sense to make "racially diverse" emoji.

There's all kinds of emoji out there ... smileys, stick figures, animals, objects, etc.

Why shouldn't there be emoji that represents other races?

Why would that form of emoji make no sense?

Right. We simply can't let that race of bright yellow folks dominate the emoji universe. We need equal representation for the purple and green races, too.

Cork asian; an Irish Indian :p

Better not upset the PC crowd - better create smileys for EVERY civilisation, if this is to be taken seriously,

Not sure why PC users would care about iPhone emojis.

or there'll be a riot at PC-correctness towers.

Is "Political Correctness-correctness" some new phenomenon none of us have heard of yet? Or are you talking about some sort of dogma about ATX form factors for towers?

All publicly decrying the PC crowd in such a predictably trite manner does is let everyone know you're every bit as annoying as they are.

They should add a gay couple one, i.e. female-female and male-male. As it stands, it's only male-female that's available in any sort of "couple" emoji.

Wrong. On your Mac, turn on "Character Viewer", click on "Emoji", "People" and scroll down to three symbols "Man and woman holding hands", "Two men holding hands", and "Two women holding hands".

And emojis for alternative sexuality people please. And transgender. And transtransgender. And transgender with alternative sexuality. And any imaginable couples (2^64). And hipsters. And punks. And hippies. And rockers. And major brands logos. And animated ads. And spam. And aliens. And dinosaurs. Oh, wait! Start with dinosaurs!

So what is an "important aspect of life" that we should concentrate on? One that meets your standards of course.

Well, I get the impression that you thought I was implying that I should post some "important aspect of life" that could be voraciously debated by the assorted members of this forum. Seeing as you have very close to 7,000 posts, that in itself must be an important aspect of life to you.

But alas, I was merely saying that there are other things one could more beneficially devote time and energy to, rather than getting emotional over the coloration of cartoon symbols.

For me, these more important aspects of life include such silly things as my health and the health of my children, and others that I care deeply about. Another aspect I consider to be more important to devote time and energy to would be things like how much satisfaction and reward I derive from both my professional and personal activities. I'm also pretty devoted to trying to provide joy to those I am close to, as well as assistance (both physically tangible and emotionally supportive) to that same group. I could go on, but hopefully you get the point.

Then again, maybe you don't, and in fact posting all of your anger and dissatisfaction with the world is indeed one of your important aspects of life.

Perhaps...
