I am hoping it is possible to buy prescription lenses for all of my family members so it can be shared. 🤞

As a removable, customizable part specifically engineered for flexibility (for each user), I have to believe third party lens makers will be rapidly offering alternatives to getting these lenses exclusively from Apple, UNLESS Apple does a very UN-Apple thing and offers custom lenses at dirt-cheap pricing.

A family of vision-impaired people might be able to order from Lenscrafters, Walmart Optical Department or similar not so long after launch... and probably deep discounters online about as quickly. I do NOT foresee Apple having ANY ability to get an "only us" lock on sales of this part of Vpro... thus, I'm not imagining pricing like Mac Pro Wheels or the infamous $1K monitor stand.

I don’t think it’s quite sunk in that $3,500 will be the base price for a version that is hobbled with low storage and lacking accessories. In reality you’ll be paying a lot more.

You're on an airplane. Nowhere for anybody "nefarious" to go. Do you fear strangers when you walk down the street, too? We do live in a crazy world, but we need to fight evil with love and compassion, not run from it in fear.
Nonsense. Trust your gut. Never allow logic to tell you “don’t cross the street” when your gut says “something is wrong with these people approaching me”.

I still am surprised by the requirement to purchase in person. This creates a limitation for people with disabilities and immune deficiencies that would otherwise have appreciated an opportunity for a cinema-like experience.
Don’t be surprised, because it’s not even true.
This is not a rumor, this is not speculation, this is a quote directly from Apple at WWDC 2023:
“ Apple Vision Pro starts at $3499, and it will be available early next year on apple.com and in Apple retail stores in the US.”
That’s directly from them, they specifically said that it will be available “on Apple.com

January 24, 2024 launch? 40 years to the date of the Macintosh launch

Problem is "You'll see why 1984 won't be like 1984" .... well 2024 is pretty much like 1984

The best thing that will come out of Apple VR is the copy cats will step up their game and offer affordable similar solutions. If this was the Old Apple, we could expect an affordable version 4 generations in like what happened with the iPhone 4 but this apple would strip it of the good stuff and call it the SE model. The old Apple gave you new tech cheaper, this Apple gives you tech years behind at a still hefty price.

Realistically I don't see it staying at that price for long. They're most likely already working on getting that price down from the rumors we've been hearing and given past experience with the iPhone and iPad
Apple has had other devices come in with rumors of it being expensive and then they come out and are several hundred dollars cheaper. I can see this being a hit at the price of a good Apple laptop. But it's not going to cost the same as an upgraded MBP. They will make it closer to $2,000, maybe even less. If they didnt do this people would say it is too expensive no matter the price, if it is cheaper than people expect, they will see it as a deal. Its just a mind trick apple does to justify their still way too expensive compared to the component costs prices.

At $2000 that's an instabuy in my book. $2000 for a HMD at these specs is a steal given how much other mixed reality HMDs of the same caliber cost. Hell it would arguably be better to buy a $2000 Vision Pro than a StudiNo Display at that point

Dude, if you saw someone wearing that huge azzzz headset over their face, most people are going to snicker.

I love me some snicker.

“What kind of degree do you have?”
I dropped out after two years.
“(Snicker) That’s a shame.”
So did Bill Gates and Steve Jobs.

People can snicker all they want. I probably won't even notice and definitely wouldn't care.

There was a time when bluetooth headsets were brand new on the market and people thought using them looked insane. Like talking to yourself. A lot of people were saying it would never become socially acceptable to use them in public. Look where we are now.
