If Tim Cook didn't actually promise to build three huge plants, and Trump simply misheard him, now he's going to face a massive backlash if he comes out and corrects Trump.
 
I wish people would stop saying "bring back"... most of that money never originated in the West. It does not belong to the US, just to Apple overseas.
The thought is that Apple is an American company and they set up shop outside the US with the intent of earning money there for their mostly American owners.

Yeah but that should be of no concern, Trump's base has proven time and time again that they're willing to jump right off that cliff with him. This is why his tweets are so effective, all it takes is 140 characters to get them riled up.
 
This is the same Trump that recently claimed that 45,000 coal mining jobs had been created in the U.S. since he became president. In reality, there are around 50,000 TOTAL coal mining jobs in the U.S. and 800 have been created since Trump took office...which is actually 500 less than had been created in the previous six months of the Obama administration.

They are not likely to be Apple-owned plants, but it would not surprise me if Apple promised to invest in 3 plants here or have suppliers build 3 plants for their products.

Remember that big fuss he made about "saving" all those jobs at the Carrier plant with a tax bailout? Yup, six months later, those jobs are already gone.
 
Apple has been looking at US plants since long before Trump’s speeches, which I think we all know have little bearing on reality at this point (no actual changes to taxation and trade have been made yet, and none are likely).

That’s why they got the Mac Pro to be built here, years ago. They have, I think, been trying to bring over additional plants, but it takes a lot of work to do it when your supply chain is so finely controlled, and nearly all the components are made in China anyway.

I do agree with Trump (who has refused to build his branded goods in America) that we need more US manufacturing, but I think it’s tossing him softballs to credit every new factory to him, just because he claims he’s the cause. Generally, these decisions are made long in advance, not the day after a speech (in the case of a couple of auto plants, not Apple).

Nobody is against the factories. We're doubting Trump's word is all. I'll hold my excitement until Cook or Apple announce their plans (if there are any). Trump has a list of promises to deliver almost as long as his tie.

Exactly — and also keep in mind, again, that Tim Cook has talked BEFORE about US plants, after having gotten one built here to assemble the Mac Pro. (Please excuse my dual posts.)
 
Not anything new here, this was mentioned two years ago.. well before the last election. Look it up for those who claim "fake news". The factory's will be mainly automated and will be component based.
 
I think Tim Cook's excuse that there aren't plants here because China has skilled labor force and the USA does not is BS!! Just be honest and say that you pay them dollars a day, and maximize profit to impress shareholders.....because that's the reason. I don't think those FOXCONN employees are University trained assemblers.....
 
Sorry, but I trust Chinese fingernails versus, I deserve a 15 min break every 10 minutes American assembly line. Those American made Macs and iPhones are be the most faulty.

I'd love to see your research. But, sure, let's pay American workers $5.00 a day, work their asses 18 to 20 hours, and six days a week. Heck, maybe seven! China is a communist country that has all of the value of human life that the US republican party does. I suppose we will end up there, and probably soon.

Living a quality life should NOT be only for the rich, otherwise why the stuff about 'liberty' in the Declaration of Independence? It was so important to the founding fathers that they put it in the first paragraph!

I don't see anything in that, or the Constitution or the Bill of Rights that gives a corporation the ability to outright OWN another American Citizen. But I guess that doesn't matter, unless you are the one being owned?

'Company stores' were outlawed decades ago. Sweat shops too, and child labor laws protect children from working in those sweat shops, although the republican party, and Betsy DeVos has no problem thinking about 'the poors' working in such hell holes now. And this is from the 'Pro-life Party'! Pardon me while a choke.
 
Why the hell is Tim Cook dancing for trump? This is getting to be ridiculous...
Trump might have threatened Cook with an IRS audit both personally and corporation (the irs brought down many criminals). We know that Apple lawyers are constantly looking for loopholes to avoid paying taxes in the country they live and work in (maybe those lawyers are not as good as Cook think as is afraid those loopholes are not so iron clad as previously thought).

He is lying his ass off. Same as the Carrier deal that included millions of taxpayer money and resulted in the layoffs exactly six months after the Chump took office. Same with the creation of 45,000 "new" coal jobs. This psychopath and his cronies can't do anything but lie about every damn thing possible.

Edited to add: Boo on MacRumors for such a spitty, clickbait headline. The editors should make it clear that it's the Liar-in-Chief's unverified, unlikely claim.
