Foxconn is likely going to ask for considerable concessions (land/infrastructure/tax-breaks/etc.) to locate in Wisconsin. Sadly our college-drop-out idiot of a governor will likely bend over backwards to give them what they want in order to score a short-term political gain.

Scott Walker made similar concessions when he changed the law to allow Cabela's to build on Wetlands near Lambeau field. He also took $20K from Ashley Furniture right after the company got a $6 million tax credit from the state.

Apple already has an assembly plant in Texas where they make the Mac Pro. I assume this is a good example of what will follow. It is a very low volume product and I rad that there are only about 100 or so people employed in building the MP.

Honestly, what do you think the chances are that Cook said anything even remotely close to that claim?

Jobs in this country. No not negative. The high likelihood that Trump is lying about that conversation and Cook's response... you know what, that can't even be negative either. We have accepted that, as Kellyanne put it, he doesn't think he's lying when he says what he says.
I certainly hope that it is not a lie. Guess we'll find out soon. :)

A product of the US public school system....mostly all supporters of the left.

Clearly...

OMG. We've seen the drone footage. Lots of plants. Big bushes and ferns. The trees will be huge.

Also, if this project happens (or even exists) there's almost no way it happens without an incredible tax break, so don't look at this as a huge windfall for the country.

Why wouldn't it be a windfall for the country to have new manufacturing plants? Are the financial incentives Apple gets to produce in China a better deal for the American worker? Ask the employees at the Mercedes plant in AL or the Hyundai plant in GA or the BMW plant in SC if they'd prefer that their jobs were done by someone else in their company's native country... or China.

It puzzles me why people do not understand that tax incentives companies get for setting up shop in one local or another generally pay off in collecting more tax revenue than the incentive cost from all the economic activity those facilities generate for decades.

How are you not surviving? Seems you are still alive. Shouldn't maybe move to Canada or Mexico or leave earth?
Me, I am doing fine, my 401K is way up!

Spoken like a true Republican.

What will follow from products made in the USA is grossly overpriced and slow-to-be-upgraded products just like the Mac Pro.

haha oh good. Trump gets to take credit for this. Yeah like they just thought about doing this 6 months ago...

To be fair.... ALL presidents take credit when the economy is good and the job rate is high. And they all get the blame when it is not.

Really is.... presidents have little to do with the economy. That’s Congress’ job.

Trump might have threatened Cook with an IRS audit both personally and corporation (the irs brought down many criminals). We know that Apple lawyers are constantly looking for loopholes to avoid paying taxes in the country they live and work in (maybe those lawyers are not as good as Cook think as is afraid those loopholes are not so iron clad as previously thought).

Possible. It's not as if the GOP hasn't used the government to attack their perceived enemies, and trump is paranoid enough to see only enemies...

Again, this is the problem with Trump vomiting out statements like this. We don't know what Tim Cook said to Trump.

But this didn't come from trump, did it?

This may be what gets Apple the tax breaks/incentives they have been wanting.

So they get tax breaks and we get wars, embarrassment, and the tab for his golf outings. YIPPEE...

Does Trump not know any synonyms for big? The guy has a vocabulary of a 2nd grader.

Stop flattering him!

(Looking left, looking right) Were are the trump supporters?

I don't think Tim Cook told him this. Apple is making too much profit with manufacturing iPhones in China.

Trump just heard what he wanted to hear. I highly doubt its 3 big factories.

We also have to keep in mind Trump isn't the most truthful person so this could be an outright lie.

Sounds like the products Apple already designs in CA and makes in China to me. So what is your real beef about Apple opening more U.S. factories?

Not anything new here, this was mentioned two years ago.. well before the last election. Look it up for those who claim "fake news". The factory's will be mainly automated and will be component based.
Yeah, I think it's this that people don't realize. At least 80% automated with a small support staff. Bigly, I tell ya!

So he wants an import tax of stuff made abroad & shipped into the US, but last week whined that Justin Trudeau was unfair because Canada will continue to charge a fee for imported US lumber into Canada. Only in Trumpland can you have it both ways, or cry like a 2yo martyr.

To stay on topic:
• This deal was probably more than 6 months in the making. So he'll steal credit even if Obama had a lot, little, or nothing to do w/ this announcement.
• Apple will not pass any savings on to its customers w/ tax breaks & may in fact charge more a partly American made iPhone.
• The jobs will be temporary for building (probably using Trump's favourite Chinese steel). Once built, automated will make the stuff, so only a few brainiacs will be needed to program the bots... a few geeks will be needed to maintain/service said bots.

Did I leave anything out? Greetings from Canada, where a 15" MacBook TouchBar starts at $2700 (w/ tax, the price of a used car).
