Apple never claimed the beta "just works".

The beta actually does "just work" for the stuff that developers need to do when testing and debugging their own apps. But Apple's beta's are not meant to "just work" for stupid (l)users playing with an OS they shouldn't even install if they aren't developing apps (or iCloud services) on devices strictly dedicated to testing.

Can anyone please confirm, that Beta 7 causes Tweetlogix to have issue with user authentication? It seems to no longer work for me.

After updating to beta 7 from beta 6 (OTA Update) my cellular network doesnt work anymore. Well, actually it not that easy... The Menu where you enter the apn, username and password is gone and nowhere to be found.

Looks like the apn settings are gone and I cant enter them again because of the missing Settings tab! :(

My phone is german, so Ill try to translate the menu buttons below:

"In Settings" -> "Network Settings" i can activate 3G and mobile internet (cellular Data?), but there is no mobile internet settings (cellular data settings?) showing up after that. nothing.

anyone having the same issue?

Yep I am having the exact same issue! I can't use my data without having access to the menu to input my settings!

OTA update on iPhone and iPad. Downloaded fast, installed fast.

I didn't have any music on iPad, had 3 tracks on iphone, wiped the later using iTunes.

Photos transitioned perfectly, even fixed my b6 'Restorying x of x' stuck status. All pictures remained, albums, everything, fixed a lot of erroneous photo kit transfer albums that were blank and goofed up.

Seemed to all work OK except it deleted all my photo albums still. Managed to keep the camera roll but none of the albums so will have to wait till I get home to re-sync.

Bricked my 3GS with the OTA update. logo comes up, screen flashes white, then restarts... had the iCloud stuff turned on, but have never done any jailbreaking or anything fancy to the phone.

My iPhone 3GS restarted to restore mode after OTA update from beta 6 to 7. Restarted it couple times, but no help. Had to restore it.

iPad (first gen.) went smoother. Had to re-sync photos and music though.

Those with the data not working. I had the same problem.

Here's how to "solve" it.

Go (with iPhone, so wifi is needed) to help.benm.at -> tethering -> create your own.

Fill in the fields, download/install it and reboot.

The menu does not appear, but data network works now.

I beg to differ... I updated and immediately couldn't play music. When I hit a song, it tries to play and fails. I hit shuffle.. Fail. I see a real quick glimpse of it selecting the song but then it bounces back to the song menu without playing anything. If I hit Shuffle it will just keep cycling through songs indefinitely or, I would guess, until it tries every song and fails. I'm going to try and updated it again but... My point.. Plenty of bugs still in there.

For both these issues, just sync with your computer and they'll appear. They are on the device still but it just doesn't see them. Just a beta glitch, the photo one is known and covered in the beta release notes if you had read them. The music is a similar issue.

That's not surprising given that the latest rumors for the past month have said that the next iPhone was coming in October.

GM won't come out until the day of the event and the invites haven't gone out yet, so we're at least a coupla weeks away. Last beta to GM on the last 2 big iOS releases had a 3-4 week gap.

Just tried this but no joy.. Getting error "Cannot Install Profile - Safari could not install a profile due to an unknown error."

I'd day this is more of an issue with transferring the license of your music purchases - in fact, I'd bet the publishers have some archaic condition with Apple regarding this.

Hopefully they'll allow transfer / consolodation - particularly with non-apple related accounts. My Apple ID /developer account (and the account I have made all purchases with on the app store / iTunes etc) is a completely unrelated email address. I then also have a mobileme account, and additionally an iCloud account that was offered to me when setting my iOS5 beta up initially. A little silly. I'd pay a once off fee to merge them all under one @me.com Apple ID

I may be jumping the gun responding before reading the entire thread (if so, I'll come back and edit when I have the time) but I was in the same predicament as you and I ended up going through the settings of my iTunes account and was able to change that username to an email address. All purchases remained valid and the MobileMe ---> iCloud transition was painless.

If you have any questions I'd be more than happy to try to answer them. It has, however, been quite a while.

I'm not 100% but I don't remember seeing this notice upon installation and restart. New "feature"?

Looks like they STILL haven't fixed Apple ID iCloud migration for MobileMe users.

For those not in the know, those people who use MobileMe as their primary email address *cannot* use that address as their Apple ID for iCloud, but must go to some other service, even creating a new address on a competing service, just to migrate their Apple ID.

Edit: I should state that my frustration with this is not a "release is coming, fix it!" attitude, but that this is by design as a result of a limitation, and they haven't even indicated that it's a bug or that it might be corrected in the future.

You do it through the icloud.com and me.com website if you are a developer.

Bricked my 3GS with the OTA update. logo comes up, screen flashes white, then restarts... had the iCloud stuff turned on, but have never done any jailbreaking or anything fancy to the phone.

Put it into DFU mode and then restore directly from iTunes.

----------

I'm still having the issue with activating Notification Center. Swiping down to activate it isn't working like it should be and from beta 5, to beta 6 that feature was broken and carried over to beta 7.

A clean install of beta 6 didn't help either, the feature was still broken for me.

Have this working fine on 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad 1 & 2. Try a full DFU and setup from scratch WITHOUT restoring backups. If it works its a duff setting in your backup. Could be fixed by restoring the backup then reset all settings.

--------------------

Anyone running the Apple TV Beta? I tried it on beta 5 and it broke 5.1 audio playback, just wondered if it was working now.

Well I seem to have lost my camera roll for good. I can't restore from a backup because iTunes is telling me August 8th is the most recent backup, which is crap because my phone gets plugged into iTunes on a daily basis.

Any suggestions?

ETA: Last OTA update I did I got the "Restoring Photo xxx of xxx" and everything came back. Nothing this time.

Yes, exactly the same problem here. It's OK on my iPad though.

No music will play at all on my ipod touch since updating to beta 7. This is now the second time apples messed up music playback in the iOS 5 beta.

I had the same problem and solved it by resyncing my music on my iPhone and iPad. First unselect all music to delete it from your device, sync to delete the music and then reselect it and sync again. Problem solved.

Emphasis mine.

Release notes on developer site address how to fix music app as well as about 200 posts on this forum.

Precisely. And while it's anyones prerogative to pay $99 to hose their devices with a beta OS and software, they shouldn't come here crying when something goes wrong...and certainly not criticize Apple for their woes.

How do you get into iTunes match now in itunes beta 7?

Well I was thinking something broke on my Mini's install of iTunes 10.5 beta 7 because when I installed it, I no longer had the "iTunes match" on the left bar under "iTunes store" like I did before.

So I updated iTunes to beta 7 on my MBA and checked and it still showed up on the left bar.

But I just installed iTunes 10.5 beta 7 for Windows on my Win7 box and it doesn't show the iTunes Match on the side bar either. Since there was never a beta 6 for iTunes for Windows, I don't know if this is expected. If it is how it should be, where the heck to I go to access the iTunes match feature now?
