No UDID

Just got iOS 5 on an iPhone 4 and 3Gs using iTunes Beta 9 no hassle at all, nice to have the notification centre after using mobile notifier for so long.

I have had issues myself. I keep my devices synced to the windows side of my system. It seems like every time I sync my devices I have to re-check the box that says "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi" and after I disconnect my device if I let it go to sleep for very long or leave the house iTunes seems to lose it.

No idea if this is an iTunes issue or the device that seems to lose the "handshake" for Wi-fi sync. hope its fixed. I sync all the time for podcasts.

if Apple would just come up with some other clever solution for podcasts I could shut down my desktop 90% of the time. Between the iPhone and iPad I rarely use it.

Exact same issue here. Seems fixed now from my preliminary testing. We'll see if it holds up.

the notification center looks kinda crap only showing the weather ^^ is it far fetched to assume that we'll get more widgets at some point? i'm sure devs could come up with something as u an already decide what to show and what not. i guess the api isnt open to devs yet

I have tons of apps listed in the notifications section of the settings app. You have to turn on notification center access for the ones you want to see push for

Just upgraded, but why the newsstand is still disabled?

Newstand requires apps built against the Newstand frameworks in the app store. Currently there are none as Apple have not yet started accepting apps built against the iOS 5 SDK which has the Newstand frameworks in it.

The only reason these builds are available are for developers to test their apps against the new frameworks. If you are developing a Newstand app then it works just fine. Otherwise be patience for the actual launch for non-developer users.

what a waste of space

just restored my 3gs to iOS 5 GM with no dev account using iTunes 10.5 beta 7 on WinXP no problems. Works like a charm. Now on to the JB....

Because people will inevitably continue to ask, I will confirm that I do NOT have a dev account, nor do I have a UDID registered, and I installed iOS5 without any problems.

You should be able to add a stock ticker, up coming calendar events, and unread e-mails. Also it is an unreleased GM, not an official release, so no apps are taking advantage of it yet.

I cant get the itunes beta to open for some reason.

How essential is it that im running it to install the GM?

This has probably been asked before, but going off precedent, will I be able to update to 5.1 from the 5.0 GM?
