1. If you turn OFF the animation in the Dock preferences

UNcheck "animate opening applications"

- that stupid bounce you're bragging about - everything will launch faster. That stupid bounce animation slows down the launch time.
2. Maximize your RAM.
3. They are launching after launching and quitting once first. Second launch is radically faster.

Also if you go into the App info and uncheck all the Languages (everything except your home Language) the App will boot in no-time.

Does Time Machine replace "Backup"?

If not, what additional does BackUp offer? The ability to back up onto DVDs?

I'm a soon-to-be switcher, and it's funny how everybody (myself included) is so giddy and excited about Leopard. When Microsoft announces a new version of Windows, the reactions among PC people are usually those of loathing and dread, probably because they just spent 3+ years getting the current version of Windows to operate properly. I don't recall people planning to line up outside of Best Buy to purchase Vista the minute it's released.

That's one of the best arguments to make to PC user. It speaks volumes.
There is no fear of Leopard ruining your life.

It can stick your files on a remote server far, far away from home (unless you live in Cupertino that is!). This can be seen as a bonus if you lose data through break in / fire /flood etc.

In a way Microsoft did quite a bit with Vista... But its still built on the old OS. Its like they just tried to upgrade and patch XP. The result is a very confusing OS. There are JUST TO MANY windows and options and pull downs its a bloody mess. What is unfortunate they tried so Hard and spent so much time for Vista. I sort of feel sorry for the developers of Vista.

I see Leopard as a small leap for OS X things changed but nothing to radical and they made the OS even quicker to use. The Upgrades Apple made were smart and cut down on clutter and menu options... made things more simple. This is where Vista fails ... everything is actually harder to do.

I installed Vista at work despite IT telling me not too. It is so frustrating. Nothing is easier than XP. The new windows update won't work. It repeatedly does that delayed dim down to confirm window over and over and over again for anything you download, install or open. My employees know Vista is a 4 letter word when I say it.

If he is really an Applestore employee he must be loving life..He's.
The Leopard Spokesmodel. Hordes of Apple fan girls are lusting for him... but clearly he's married so don't get your hopes up for any midnight Core Animation coding with him.

But he's not Steve Jobs and now he has this video of himself to always remind him that no matter how hard he tries he will never be Steve.

At first I thought so, but look at what's not in the video. Everything that already makes OS X great- including things brought in by Tiger like expose and dashboard. This video seems to presume you already know about everything that isn't new in Leopard, meaning its target must be existing Mac users, not PC switchers.

Yeah, you are right. But how are widgets organized in Windows? I haven't used windows for years. It's an odd thing, this video. Might be just to wank the fans, might be to get the cheezeepeeseers, might be absolutely puff for filling the space time continuum.

I want my 30 minutes back so I can write more messages here and be able to have an avatar!

Mine says the same :) However, what this means is that its ready for Apple to give the package to FedEx - which really does not mean a lot. When I got iWork 08/ iLife 08 it said that for two days. Then FedEx had it for a few more days even though I am less than two hours from where it shipped. I really dislike using FedEx....

I ordered a hard drive from Apples website on Tuesday at 3:30 pm. I chose 5 day shipping. I had it at my house in less than 24 hours. FedEx seems to send the things you don't want or need right away and the things your craving they somehow seem to always take their sweet time with...

Mine says not yet shipped yet-I'm in Australia.

To be honest, I'm not that impressed so far. Things like Time Machine are nice, but hardly amazing. Could care less about iChat. What I'm really interested in is how OSX is developing re multi-threading, 64bit, etc etc. More under the hood than anything. Of course I also wish they'd release a decent non-Xeon desktop.....but they seem content to have the Mac be viewed more as an appliance. A pity.

A couple of questions

Does anyone know if Pro-Tools M-Powered works with Leopard? I currently use version 7.1

Does anyone know if Sibelius 5 works with Leopard?

Greatly appreciated. I don't want to upgrade until I'm sure they work. But I really wanna upgrade... the video makes me very excited about some features

Just bought a 320GB G-Tech external HD in prep for Time Machine....can't wait!

Can you use the external drive with Time Machine but also use it as an external drive? Ie I have an internal 160Gb drive which I'd like to backup with Time Machine. If I use a 350Gb external can I use 160Gb to back up the internal and then the rest for just whatever I want? Would I need to partition the external drive?

I want to buy an external in prep too :)

The excitement around LEOPARD reminds me of when Windows 95 was launched!!! This is so exciting!!!

Hopefully there won't be any compatibility problems. Developers, developers, developers, developers! Developers, developers, developers, developers, developers!

You cannot (at least with the latest dev. builds) flatten the dock, but Cleardock lets you do it :)

I just checked out cleardock. Wow, very impressive. Wish they just buy both Unsanity and Parallels and include it into OSX.

Yeah my wish list for OSX 10.6,
1. Unsanity ClearDock
2. Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac (Transparent Windows in Coherence)
3. Parallels Virtual Workstation
4. Parallels Virtual Server (OSX Server ONLY)
5. ZFS

It's about time they started including some virtualization technology into OSX. You have Zen for Linux and Solaris. You have VirtualPC for Windows. Why doesn't apple include one for OSX.

:)
