Sibelius even supports Quicklook

Does anyone know if Pro-Tools M-Powered works with Leopard? I currently use version 7.1

Does anyone know if Sibelius 5 works with Leopard?

Yes its compatible, according to the Sibelius website. They've even built in Quicklook support already: "Quick Look support for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard now included: look inside Sibelius scores directly via the Finder without opening them" Sounds great!

What MS needs to do is rewrite the OS from scratch. Do away with all of the legacy crap in it. This shouldn't be very hard in this day and age. We have very fast computers now. All they would need to do is do something similar to Classic in OS X. Have the brand spanking new, low bloat OS that runs all the newly developed apps, and also ship the OS with a copy of Win XP that runs as a virtual machine. Any app that doesn't work in the new OS can automatically open up in this "Classic like" environment.

Legacy Schmegacy...

I remember the video I watched about Windows 7 (Vista's successor). One of the lead-developers at Microsoft talked about MinWin, a minimalistic build of Windows 7 that has all the cruft removed. He said (not a direct quite, but still) "It does not have a GUI, but it runs a very basic web-server. It consumes 33 megs of RAM. And you thought that Windows was bloated, huh?". I heard that and thought: "So it consumes 33 megs while doing practically nothing. And we have Linux inside routers (which means web-server for config-tool, various tools for handling WiFi, ADSL, NAT, DHCP, routing etc. etc.), and it consumes under 16 megs of RAM...."

Wow, Leopard is really going to mop the floor w/ Vista and XP! Can't wait for Friday!

Hm...

I just bought MacBook and ordered Leopard at a discount rate: can't argue with that. That being said, I must say the new features are very impressive, and have me thinking of using my Macs in anew way since Jaguar; I suppose I should change my sig, no?

While this is fair comment, as far as I'm concerned I don't really care who came up with the idea first... it's going to be pretty hard to come up with something these days that is 'entirely innovative' and that no one else can claim they had thought of the same/ something similar. What matters is how well these ideas are achieved, and what Apple seems to have a good track record for is making things work in an integrated and simple way. That's why Time Machine is great - not because no other backup program has ever had automated regular backups or a way to restore files, but because with the way it is implemented it is easy, and works well. Same applies for spaces, yes it's been in Linux but not in the easy to use, attractive way it is in Leopard.
Have you ever used Linux? Virtual desktops are very simple to setup and use.

You do realize it was easy for Apple to pull this off because they have maybe 4-5% market share? Say what you want about Windows, but it holds 90%+ of the market, and thus it cannot easily be ported from one processor platform to another.

Point taken.

Also if you go into the App info and uncheck all the Languages (everything except your home Language) the App will boot in no-time.

wow, thats made such a difference!!! Thanks :)

photoshop cs3 loads up in 5 bounces of the icon, rather than 17! (i dont want to disable bounces, i may do on leopard as i think its easier to see when an app is loaded)

and iphoto, pages etc all load up so much faster! thanks... now its like im using the imac he is...

I agree. There's no real difference between virtual desktops in Linux and Leopard, as far as ease of use is concerned. In fact, one could say that they are easier in Linux since the user has a graphical representation of the desktops in front of them all the time. Also in Linux you can switch desktops by mousewheeling over an empty space in the desktop. That could come handy in leopard as well, but I don't think they implemented that.

Perhaps not the most apt comparison to make then, my point was really that generally Apple does find simple and attractive implementations of ideas that previously may not have been realised. Sometimes its not so much the what as the how...

Apple stores are down.
Not only the US store, in other words, it seems more than a regular maintenance. But who knows? Time will tell.

I'm not sure about everyone but I just feel that there is just not enough customization in the new features based on what I saw in the video. Again, I won't know this until I play with them in my hands.

So far just the lack of customization has disappointed me. Then again apple is never known for producing products that are highly customizable. Always locking it down to what steve wants.

I wish they made the horizontal menu bar a floating vertical menu bar like in NeXTSTEP . That was cool. Then I can place it anywhere on the screen. When you have a big high resolution monitor its not easy trying to select menu items. NeXTSTEP had the right idea. Wish more of the features were ported over.

See in this picture. So beautiful, simple and powerful. They should give you the option to change it vertically. That is so cool. It would be great on a large display. NeXTSTEP was ahead of its time. It still is!!! I just think they went backwards not adopting all of the features in NeXT.

awesome awesome awesome... if pro tools also works this means i can sell my current powerbook as soon as the brand spanking new mbp arrives (ship date 6-11nov) :D

Just wait and see. Hollywood is going to discover this man. He will be the next movie star. Move over George Clooney and Brad Pitt. There is a new man in town. And he knows how to act and sell. Thats all you need to be successful in Hollywood.

Wait

It's gonna be awesome but it will be full of bugs at release. Oh, and get the best external HD available because Time Machine will only be as good as the drive is.

Bravo. I totally agree.

But I realize re-coding an entire OS is a huge task. I imagine OS X wasn't brand new from the bottom up, more that it was Nextstep at heart.

I love new OS releases

My Favorites were -

Atari ST (GEOS)
Amiga (The OS was amazing)
Win 95 (It was the best upgrade ever)
NeXTstep (for intel)
Cheetah
Jaguar
Tiger
Tiger (ppc to Intel Transition)

whats the best drive?
im thinking about getting a lacie 350Gb (or 160Gb) mobile porche usb

You can use the G-Tech drive like Apple does in the Leopard Video. From what I hear from loads of people is that G-Tech is the best. I'm cheap so I purchased the Porsche drive from Lacie ... but they are working fine so far. I will NEVER purchase another Maxtor its Garbage.

Where is this "app info" menu located

how does this make a difference? I don't understand. Only as much to say that there are less people to annoy if there is a bug in the system. I think what makes it easier is that Apple has control over the hardware it's OS can run on.

I still have not seen a Vista pc in person. Will get around to it sometime. Maybe.

I almost saw a vista machine, but my little brother's motherboard drivers didnt support vista (or vista didnt support it!) even tho that stupid stupid STUPID vista hardware analyzer said that all his hardware WOULD be compatible with vista. Nvidia drivers don't even work properly with the large LCD displays. microsoft pulled one over on me and that was the straw that broke my back

With great expectation and rock-hard nipples, I await Leopard's arrival. :)
