I'd love a top of the line 4" phone (new processor, ram, camera, Apple pay, 3d touch, etc), but processor upgrade is better than nothing, I suppose.

I don't care if they still offer 16gb base. Make it 16mb for all I care. I always get the storage capacity phone that I need. I really don't understand this complaint. To me it sounds just like: "I want more for less." Ok friend, don't we all...
This...

I bet they won't do a 64. I bet they'll follow the iPad pro model and to a 32 base model and 128 if you want extra. They'll probably increase the price by 50 bucks on the base. To me, it wouldn't matter. I'm ok with a 16 still existing. Not everyone uses smartphones to the fullest extent. Some people use them for phone calls and texts only... or work devices.

"I bet they'll follow the iPad pro model and to a 32 base model and 128 if you want extra."

Actually, that's a great point. And it'd be a great move.

Come on Apple we don't need a crap 4" phone that looks like the 5S - what a stupid rumor.

I have a 6 and I really like the speed of the device. I really don't like the screen size. I prefer the smaller 4" phone. I'd take a A9 in a 4" form factor. I'd prefer latest and greatest, but at this point it's literally beggars can't be choosers.
So on that note: Apple, I'm begging you. Please bring back a 4" iPhone with at least iPhone 6 performance.
Don't need any other bells and whistles, just a 4" phone as fast or faster then the iPhone 6.
Thanks.

P.S. If I want to do anything with a larger screen I almost always will have an iPad and/or a laptop nearby that's much better then any phone.

Why does the GUI need a refresh? They just did that in 7... I'd say every 5 have a big overhaul. I'm more concerned with features and stability. Looks are a distant 12th.
The new UI is still as broken and unfinished looking as it was in the early iOS 7 betas. It still looks unpolished and childish and seeing as the design refresh with Yosemite proved that Apple can mature the flatter UI design language (which they did on the desktop OS) and implement it on their mobile OS.

For example, OS X still uses traditional looking buttons (that actually loom like buttons) instead of plain text hyperlinks which is kinda ironic considering that the normal button style is better suited for iOS since it's a touch-based OS and the OS X-style buttons are more inviting for touch than plain text.

The new default icons on OS X have enough detail and depth while not going completely overboard with gloss and texture and still retain the distinct Apple look. The iOS icons on the other hand, still look amateurish and inconsistent with one another. Say what you will about the old iOS icons but they flowed together on the home screen much better than have since iOS 7. I believe that the iOS icons would look better and much more refined if they took some design cues from their desktop counterparts.

Also, less use of white in app windows. The translucent gray that Apple uses on their OS X windows provides the right amount of contrast while still allowing the content to shine. I think this design choice could translate nicely over to iOS.

I would like Apple to rethink their current strategy with Music to make listening to my music collection an enjoyable and elegant experience (which it hasn't really been since iOS 6.1). Apple should go back to basics here and have the default music app be a simple iPod player again while spinning off the radio and streaming features into separate apps to streamline everything.

While stability and performance are still a lingering issue with the most recent iOS versions, the GUI has been neglected and is starting to look quite stale again and honestly that is a big part of the picture. Apple does not need to do as radical of an overhaul as 6 to 7, having a moderate design refresh for iOS taking cues from OS X seems like a no-brainer and would make iOS devices look more desirable, attractive and functional again.

I swear if Apple puts out a 4 inch screen with a year old processor I'm going to be pissed off. 4 inches is the correct size (the 6 is too big I can't type a with my right hand thumb) I want the 4 inch form so much. I don't care how thick it is. Just give me a decent battery, taptic engine, etc. Give me everything in the 7 and give it to me as a 7 mini not a 6S mini.

it'd be nice if they wouldn't penalize people who like smaller form factors by removing functionality & power.

If a user has an iPad Air 2 for a couple years, and realizes the mini would be a more convenient and useful size for them, they're going to eat hundreds dollars on depreciation getting rid of their Air 2, only to spend a load of $ on a smaller iPad that has... the same hardware as an Air 2. Result is paying loads of money for a new device, but getting last years hardware only smaller. Tough sell.

Almost everything in any business the bigger size product has better everything. Get over it.

I'm feeling very positive about iPhone 7! I do believe now more than ever, Apple realizes just how important getting this one right is. If they give it some truly new and useful features it will help continue the iPhones amazing streak of success. :D

I think this is a very essential product in the iPhone line up. Now that Apple has conquered the top end, this phone may be placed in the mid range to put it directly against the likes of Xiaomi, Huawei etc.,
Apple conquered the top end back in 2010, they now split it with Samsung and a couple of other android phones in the us, have smaller market share internationally

I'm confused by people saying the Plus model could use the extra RAM. Sure, more is always nice, but the 6S+ handles multitasking and everything else excellently with 2GB, and it certainly doesn't "need" anything more for the time being.

I wonder if analysts get paid by the word or semi annually, by rumour sites to spew predictions like this.

On the other hand, a lower cost iPhone would hit the spot. My 3GS still rocks and I don't really need all the performance of 6S so a slightly slower, smaller model would be great for upgrade time.

It's not about lower cost... it's about a PHONE SIZED PHONE!

It needs to be full-featured and full-performance, AND come with enough storage (32 GB min).

This will make the 4" lovers happy.

It's good that there will be three sizes. Kinda like iPads, laptops, etc. There will be something for everyone.

I'm glad they are making bigger phones, as it's what some want. But, I guess my argument is that they should *always* have a phone-sized-phone in the line-up, since, well, it's a phone. (i.e.: 4") :)
