Can anyone test if the included lightning to 3.5mm adapter allows the in-line controls to work on conventional 3.5mm headphones?

And they are certainly free to vote with their wallets and buy another smartphone.

And apparently, Apple isn't doing a good enough job of pissing off their customers! /s
They did a good enough job pissing off this one. I'm likely going to buy a Google Pixel or Pixel XL this October. If not one of the Pixel phones, I'll buy another Android device. I'm firm in my decision not to buy an iPhone after six years of using iPhones exclusively.

Sad but understandable.

Forced evolution always did have its price.

Doesn't appear to happen with the adapter in that port...my old floppy disk drive works just fine, guess we shouldn't have moved on there either?
Here's the difference between the floppy and the 3.5mm jack. Apple wasn't pushing a proprietary standard that even it didn't integrate across its own product line as a replacement for the floppy disk.

But .. I thought digital was... better?

Sometimes, an old standard continues to be used, not just because of inertia, or lack of "courage" (barf) but because it really is the best solution for the task at hand.

Not often, but it does indeed happen, from time to time...

So let me get this straight, you think that using an onboard DAC to act as a crutch for that old port is the "old standard"? There's nothing analog about that jack that isn't the same as what is in this headset. In fact, when you take a step back and look at this solution vs. the headphone jack, it's even more of a simplification and a return to the "old standard" as it was in the days before CD players.

Using this, a glitch fixable through a software update, as an example of why this whole thing is a failure is reaching so far I think you might just hurt yourself.

Better be that than a advertising company (Google), or an expensive explosives company (Samsung)
Hot damn Zirel. We can always count on you for these type of posts. Thanks brother. What would a thread be if we couldn't point out someone else's issues.:p:D Just pokin' atcha. Though, you have to admit it's pretty predictable.;)

On topic: It's the same with any new tech product. There are always going to be little niggling bugs at introduction. The key is how quickly it get's fixed. If it's still an issue a month from now, then we can collectively crawl in their butt about it. Till then, breathe.

You could work for Apple's marketing department with that attitude! Customers hate it when something useful is courageously removed in the name of 'progress'.

Same complaints have been made over and over. Old technology paves the way for future tech. Apple has lead the way and will continue to do so. I'm sure you're still using your Floppy Disk.

That's not the only difference, but Apple provided you a method of using that old 3.5mm jack, didn't they? It's in the box. And introduced their solution that isn't proprietary, bluetooth. Now, I'd give my left arm to have iPhone drop Lightning and go USB-C but that's another story.

You're complaining on something that there's no going back on. What's the point!?
While it is likely that wired headphones will eventually go the way of the dodo, that does not mean that we who are unhappy with the newly fragmented, user hostile headphone situation have to roll over and take it. If not a majority of Apple customers, there is a loudly vocal minority who will not stand for the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack without a non-proprietary solution that can transmit audio at the same fidelity as the 3.5mm jack. We will be heard.

They did bungle this. I have this problem with one of my headphones. But I'm sure Apple will fix whatever it is. So I'll be fine. Mistakes will happen but my phone isn't exploding in my pocket and Apple generally fixes things like this or replace them so...

Good luck waiting for a headphone jack on the next iPhone.

I think you were heard when that dongle was free in the box? The fidelity of that jack wasn't very hot, btw - this path leads to even better sounding headphones with built in DAC. But I'd like to see AirPlay headphones show up, to be honest.
