So let me get this straight, you think that using an onboard DAC to act as a crutch for that old port is the "old standard"? There's nothing analog about that jack that isn't the same as what is in this headset. In fact, when you take a step back and look at this solution vs. the headphone jack, it's even more of a simplification and a return to the "old standard" as it was in the days before CD players.

Firstly, you clearly don't know anything about audio so please do some research before you start talking about DACs and analog connections.

That's not the only difference, but Apple provided you a method of using that old 3.5mm jack, didn't they? It's in the box. And introduced their solution that isn't proprietary, bluetooth. Now, I'd give my left arm to have iPhone drop Lightning and go USB-C but that's another story.

Secondly, bluetooth does not meet the fidelity of a wired connection, and an adapter is not an adequate replacement for the actual port for a number of reasons, including the fact that it continues to rely upon Apple's proprietary connection standard

software updates to correct this bug?? Why they dont put a headphone jack? Problem solved! Look what the courage resulted. Lighting headphone issues in the first week, imagine how many issues will be in the end of the year????

You're complaining on something that there's no going back on. What's the point!?
The point is to talk about Apple's poor choice to remove the headphone jack. You act like if sales are lack luster due to headphone jack that they can't reverse course. Samsung did the same thing with the S series of phones. They removed the sd card slot and consumers voices anger and didn't buy the device.

You know what happened?

They listened and reversed course.

Also please don't state how sales are so great and apple isn't in any trouble. Early adopting fanboys don't count as an accurate measurement of normal users upgrading. Sales numbers in future will tell us soon how bad apple messed up.

Firstly, the fact that you jump to such a ridiculous conclusion about my knowledge is ironic if you don't understand what I meant. I've got about 1000 feet of analog audio cables running in one room of my house alone, I build and rebuild guitar amplifiers, and I have been a musician since long before digital recording was an option. Get over yourself.

Here's a lesson about what is happening internally on that headphone jack - it's inside the dongle you're plugging into that proprietary connection. It's just soldered to that motherboard. Yes, I don't like that it requires Lightning and not USB-C. Yes, I would prefer AirPlay over Bluetooth. But guess what? They aren't deal breakers just yet - not while Bose is launching headphones that charge with MINI-USB and the rest of the world is launching other crap with micro-USB while everyone should be looking forward at least a year. Thing about my iPhone 7 is, there's likely going to be another change, and this phone is the stop-gap in between. Not worth crying about for a year.

Just how many fanboys do you think Apple has? Because those early adopters buy more iPhones in weekend than flagship Samsung's sell in a quarter.

Same complaints have been made over and over. Old technology paves the way for future tech. Apple has lead the way and will continue to do so. I'm sure you're still using your Floppy Disk.

Nothing like the blind apologist that compares Apples to Oranges and just doesn't get that Apple can also fail sometimes, and recently, a lot.

I guess this is going to be quite normal now, getting errors when before things just worked.

Thing is, it's not really Apples to Oranges unless you take the perspective you're taking. They're just standards that are assumed and included in everything that have now been removed - that's Apples to Apples. If you need a better analogy, look at the new Macbook with only a USB-C port.

Your assumption that this is going to be normal when I've seen this happen with TONS of headphones in the past, to the point that some headphones aren't compatible between Apple and Android manufacturer headphone jacks is ridiculous.

I think you were heard when that dongle was free in the box? The fidelity of that jack wasn't very hot, btw - this path leads to even better sounding headphones with built in DAC. But I'd like to see AirPlay headphones show up, to be honest.

The fidelity? Do you even know what you are talking about? Seriously. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Yes, the fidelity of THAT headphone jack in your smartphone is not so hot. There are headphones that provide their own DAC that do much better.

What is it with people like yourself who are so sure of yourself that you attempt to insult someone else's knowledge before even disputing a point?

This problem was happening to me today...using a pair of Sony MFI earbuds.

No comparison between the two, and I"m sure you probably aren't old enough to ever use a floppy disk anyway. In this case sadly Apple isn't paving the way for new tech, it has just screwed up.

That's because Samsung was a bunch of wusses who lacked the conviction to stand behind their design choices.

Apple has a plan to usher in the 2nd wave of wearable technology starting with Airpods and they are not going to let something as inconsequential as a small group of audiophiles being inconvenienced by the lack of a headphone jack stand in their way.

We are on the precipice of a post-iPhone era and the only thing some people can focus on is that they can no longer plug in their wired headphones and charge at the same time. Talk about being shortsighted and completely missing the forest for the trees.

You aren't the only one hoping that Apple screws up. My advice - save your energy. People bet against Apple to their own detriment.

Please do not call these people audiophiles. Most of them are listening to compressed audio files through a smartphone's headphone jack...an audiophile would laugh them away.

They did a good enough job pissing off this one.
It isn't that serious.

Nothing ever just worked without flaw. You just fell for the marketing gimmick. So stop. Software and hardware neve just works for 100% of the people 100% of the time. There are always bugs and particularly when you are trying to do an upgrade. The bugs need to be worked out as with anything but no one is being physically harmed because a remote control didn't work properly.
