That's because Samsung was a bunch of wusses who lacked the conviction to stand behind their design choices.

Apple has a plan to usher in the 2nd wave of wearable technology starting with Airpods and they are not going to let something as inconsequential as a small group of audiophiles being inconvenienced by the lack of a headphone jack stand in their way.

We are on the precipice of a post-iPhone era and the only thing some people can focus on is that they can no longer plug in their wired headphones and charge at the same time. Talk about being shortsighted and completely missing the forest for the trees.

You aren't the only one hoping that Apple screws up. My advice - save your energy. People bet against Apple to their own detriment.

1.- Yes, wusses for listening to what their customers want, yes. Total wusses.
2.- Except, this is not a small group of audiophiles, it is happening to regular people that just want to listen some music.
3.- Wow, just wow, this is some serious case of brainwashing, where removing functions and complaining about it is being "shortsighted". You know, lots of people charge and listen to music at the same time, right? You know that is not something only audiophiles do, right?
4.- No one wants Apple to screw up, quite the contrary, we don't want that, doesn't mean that just because we aren't apologists and bash Apple when they deserve to get bashed we want Apple to fail.
5.- I hope this is trolling, because otherwise you might just be severely brainwashed.

It isn't that serious.

Nothing ever just worked without flaw. You just fell for the marketing gimmick. So stop. Software and hardware neve just works for 100% of the people 100% of the time. There are always bugs and particularly when you are trying to do an upgrade. The bugs need to be worked out as with anything but no one is being physically harmed because a remote control didn't work properly.

Excuse me, I didn't fall for anything. I know there were going to be issues. There was no need to remove the headphone jack.

Iphone 7 is disappointing!!!! see the vídeo which compares all iphones(speed test) the 7 booted first. However, 0.00001 later the SE,6S,6S Plus booted. Even the 6,6 Plus, 5s booted first than the 7 Plus!! How much faster is the new A10 Fusion chip??? It seems like the same history is repeating. 5s and 6 . BUT, this year, we didnt see a redesign .

Please do not call these people audiophiles. Most of them are listening to compressed audio files through a smartphone's headphone jack...an audiophile would laugh them away.

Actually a true Audiophile would tell you that at higher bit-rates, such as Apple's AAC at 256 kbps the difference between a lossless file and a compressed file is virtually indistinguishable, and multiple ABX blind tests support this theory. Let me guess, you also think HD 24/96 Audio sounds better, right?

What makes all the difference in the world are your speakers and the quality of the mastering your file has.

Cue the bashing...

Queue the Airpods didn't explode comments.
Don't forget your subwoofer for when the hissing stops and the remote starts working again.

That's not the only difference, but Apple provided you a method of using that old 3.5mm jack, didn't they? It's in the box. And introduced their solution that isn't proprietary, bluetooth. Now, I'd give my left arm to have iPhone drop Lightning and go USB-C but that's another story.

Adaptors aren't a solution to a problem that never existed! Bluetooth is not the answer either as wireless headphones need charging. If they dropped lightning for USB-C and kept the 3.5mm jack, that would be fine.

Apple is working on a fix for an issue that can cause the new Lightning EarPods designed for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus to stop working properly, the company said in a statement given to Business Insider.

When using the EarPods, there's an occasional bug that can cause the remote portion of the accessory to become unresponsive. While audio will continue to play, the remote does not work, so there's no way to control the volume, access Siri, or answer a phone call.

Apple plans to issue a fix in an upcoming software update, but there's no word on when it might be released. Business Insider is not sure if third-party Lightning-based headphones are affected, but there have been reports of similar bugs with the Lightning adapter. Some headphones, such as Beats headphones with a 3.5mm connector, appear to have a non-functional remote when plugged into an iPhone with the Lightning adapter.

Because the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus do not have a headphone jack, Apple shipped the devices with a set of EarPods that feature a Lightning connector instead of a 3.5mm headphone jack. The EarPods plug into the Lightning port, making it more difficult to charge and listen to music at the same time. Apple has also included a 3.5mm to Lightning adapter for customers who want to use their own headphones.

Are you ***** kidding me?

Any control u have that signals the iphone/app as to increase volume/decrease based on the remote would be a possible addition to a problem..

Hope this gets fixed soon. but ya must be a inconvenience to keep unplugging them.

If it's software alone in the phone, then i reckon it would be affecting all lightening earphone, since wouldn't they all be using the same method when connected in order to control volume ?

Whoever is doing software testing at Apple is pretty rubbish. Tim Cook if you are reading this, hire me and I will teach you the ways of the software test.
But we only tested using AirPod. Nobody told us that people use lightning headphone.
- An Apple tester

It still works for me and I will never buy an Apple device that has it removed (IOS or MacOS).

Perfect. More availability for people like me (and obviously others) who couldn't care less about the lack of a 3.5mm jack.

"Welcome to iPhone HJ, the best audio phone ever. To create it, we went back to a beloved design, and hope you forget about what we did."
next Apple move: replacing the lightining conector with a new conector

Old jack, earbuds work on every iPhone, including the 7.
New jack, only works on iPhone 7, doesn't work on iPhone 7.

I think we can end the discussion.

New discussion. If they are 'standardized' cables, why can't they also work on the iPhones that have a lightning port? What's so special about the lighting port on the 7 that the new earbuds with lightning dont work on the 6 or 5s?

[edit] Found out through MR that you can use them on old phones. I asked live-chat from Apple sales on launch day and was told it couldn't. sigh... checking before assuming, and still it bites me. ANYWAY. I will replace it with another reason then: You can use your 3.5 on your Mac hardware, but you can't use your lightning earbuds on your iMac, Macbook etc. So there, I still have an argument i think.

Just how many fanboys do you think Apple has? Because those early adopters buy more iPhones in weekend than flagship Samsung's sell in a quarter.
A lot who blindly buy for the new shiny logo.
So you're buying the iPhone 7 while complaining? Mind = 'blown'
Where did I say I was upgrading? Your mind must already be blown if you make up stuff out of what people say.

If only there was a good standard port that just works... It's almost as if the proprietary headphone jack was just a solution in search of a problem.

Hopefully Apple fixes their issues before the 2017 iPhone. Until then my 6S is just fine.

Using 3.5mm headphones requires a lightning adapter dongle. No thanks. Not spending my $$ on that.

Great question. Possibly something to do with the port itself (on the 7) being different?

He's asking why the lightning earbuds don't work on prior models.
