Can we be honest here and remember history?

You must admit it was somewhat better than simple music controls failing to work. Also, you know what's NOT first-generation and is getting buggier every day? iTunes.

All the jack removal whiners better get grip cuz where this is all heading is the complete removal of all ports and jacks. A totally sealed iPhone is coming. No 3.5 audio jack, no lightening jack, no charging port, all sealed with only two physical buttons left. Totally waterproof and all input/output by radio (Bluetooth, wifi, other).

That's what the courage comment was all about. Courage for Apple to endure the minority of vocal whiners as they push us into next generation of iPhones. I still remember all the whining about no keyboard on the first iPhone.

Wide area charging and no physical hookups at all. Coupled with next generation of nano LI Iron battery technology with 10 fold energy density and super fast charging. Along with quantum dot OLED screen technology.
You heard it here first.

Welcome to the age of firmware updates for your headphones. Get ready for 'this device is not authorized' warnings as your perfectly functional headphones are made obsolete.
Yes, Lightning is definitely not something you should use when you have the option to avoid it. These "DRM'd" cables are Satan.

The greatest inconvenience caused by the removal of the headphone jack is that you can no longer charge the iPhone and use your earphones at the same time unless they are wireless, which are expensive, need to be charged as well, as if we don't have enough devices to charge already and have worse sound quality than most wired earphones. Or you get another silly dongle.
If that's the greatest inconvenience, it's no big deal for me.

Totally water proof and with input/output via cables has already been done. It's not difficult to waterpoof a 3.5mm or Lightning port.

And they are certainly free to vote with their wallets and buy another smartphone.

And apparently, Apple isn't doing a good enough job of pissing off their customers! /s
To soon to tell. Amazing how the wait times are decreasing faster than usual. Hmmm…

The change from floppy disk to cd had major advantages such as increased storage and bigger file sizes. The removal of the head jack does nothing comparable to the removal of the floppy disk despite what the kook aid drinking cultust fanboys try to claim.
I have never seen the CD as a direct replacement for the floppy disk. They both had very different use cases. I am not going to burn a presentation to a CD and pass it around, for one. USB would only come later.

The removal of the headphone jack will usher in a new generation of Bluetooth headphones and help spur their adoption. If you look at what Apple has done with the airpods, it's clearly Gen1 of a new wave of wearables designed to bring Siri to your ears (and subsequently other sensors and trackers).

Either way - my stance is this. What's done is done. The headphone jack is gone from the iPhone and it is never coming back, however much people whine. The people who think Apple is doing this simply to sell more headphones and adaptors for a quick buck clearly don't know Apple, what Apple stands for, nor do they understand how Apple does business.

You can either continue to complain and hold out for as long as you can, switch to a competing platform, or you can embrace the future as prophesied by Apple. It will make no difference either way.

My 3.55mm headphones work just fine on my 6S. Shouldn't have changed it to a proprietary port.
The courage to try to make everybody use a proprietary connector. Lot of people say "get over it", "don´t buy an iPhone then", but that is not the point, the problem is replacing a standard connector by a proprietary port just because, suddenly the audio quality was bad with the 3.55mm connector?, no way to make a water-resistant phone with it?.

When Apple removed something, they replaced by another standard: LAN -> WIFI, Floppy -> USB, CD -> Stream. None of those belonged to Apple, lighting does.

I'm having the same issue. I use Bose earbuds. Once in a while I can hear the audio perfectly but my microphone is nonresponsive and the person on the other end of the line cannot hear me. Hopefully Apple update the software soon to fix this glitch.

On a somewhat related note, do we think Bose will release wired headphones with lightning port in the near future?

Did they test in england or Japan? Think I could guess why is asking.

I'd gather this is due to US drives right side of road. By and large you can make that right faster waiting for one lane of traffic vice 2 to make the left. Less wait time. residential areas you can cruise in neutral more than apply the gas as well. Unless a lead foot race to the stop sign you know is coming up and slam the brakes idiot anyway lol.

England or Japan it be different. We drive left side. lefts an easier turn. I'd wager left run only would save gas here lol. Places I go I do this sometimes since 1 minute side streets creeping all lefts better than several minutes for not 1 but 2 lanes to have a people nice enough to let me in.
Exactomundo my friend. Japan or Great Britain it would be left turns only.

There seems to be quite a few glitches as usual this year but who cares?

Thank Samsung Apple, you got a "can't f$&@ up as bad as them" pass for the the whole year.

So let me get this straight, you think that using an onboard DAC to act as a crutch for that old port is the "old standard"? There's nothing analog about that jack that isn't the same as what is in this headset. In fact, when you take a step back and look at this solution vs. the headphone jack, it's even more of a simplification and a return to the "old standard" as it was in the days before CD players.

Using this, a glitch fixable through a software update, as an example of why this whole thing is a failure is reaching so far I think you might just hurt yourself.
Where's the DAC now?

Fortunately for me, I have no need for the lighting EarPods. I will be however, upgrading to the Bluetooth EarPods when they release in late October.

The richest technology company in the World (and in History), obviously doesn't test their products completely. Really!?

And this is the same company that wants us to trust them with a self-driving car!?

I'll pass...

"Open minded" that's a nice way to describe Kool-aid drinking cultists who view questioning Apple as blasphemy.
Red Apple koolaid or blue Samsung koolaid. Different flavor same effect.

Immense failure point. Something to eliminate for robust water proofing not just water resistant. And no stinking rubber plugs, they don't count as a solution. Cables, yuck....who wants cables. No we gonna get rid of cables.

Same complaints have been made over and over. Old technology paves the way for future tech. Apple has lead the way and will continue to do so. I'm sure you're still using your Floppy Disk.
Yes, the floppy was around for 100 years before it was replaced.
I didn't morn the loss of the floppy as I used it very rarely. For my use case, the headphone jack is used on a daily basis in various settings.

They did bungle this. I have this problem with one of my headphones. But I'm sure Apple will fix whatever it is. So I'll be fine. Mistakes will happen but my phone isn't exploding in my pocket and Apple generally fixes things like this or replace them so...
The point is, it was an unforced error.
