Surely you mean 'bag of hurt'!

So far ExtremeZI-P has been great. Only problem though is we use net-apps so we have to front end them with a 2008 Server VM. This also disallows DFS which is fine by me. Either way using this we have AFP/CIFS support.

What changes can we expect?

Don't expect anything from the minor 10.6.x updates, honestly. You'll only disappoint yourself every time.

At most it is just going to be bug and security fixes, updates to the open source software (like python, ruby, etc) and very minor changes to the system apps. (10.6.4 added the SSD/TRIM status to System Profiler, but no TRIM support in OS X).

Things to look out for are the USB 3.0 support, TRIM, Samba 4 and so on.

hope they just send the next update not be a 600+ Mb i didn't update my mac to 10.6.4 'cause the internet connection in my country is extremely slow and it goes off every now n then ! :S

You... do know that your computer has to be at 10.6.4 to upgrade to 10.6.5, or you'll have to use a combo update which will definitely be more than 600 MB.

Hmm, the timing does provide some creditability to both iMac/MacPro being updated soon. It is likely that Apple is holding off the first beta until they announce the new hardware to prevent the leaks of new hardware information.

I just hope there's USB 3.0 support in 10.6.5.

I believe this is a very interesting insight on the update as well.

Snow Leopard is very stable on my Mac Pro and I have no issues whatsoever. I do not understand how you can just say that it isn't stable without explaining the issues you are having.

I don't have big problems but overall I really feel like Snow Leopard is a bit less responsive than Leopard, stuff like Exposé and Spaces just reacts slowly. It's still fine, but in Leopard I was shocked by how fast and smooth everything was compared to Windows, and now in Snow Leopard it's kind less awesome basically... But it's no big deal really!

Windows 7 is way more stable, and it tastes like strawberries.

This is hardware, not software. A software update will not make you USB 2.0 slots USB 3.0

Drivers for the OLD graphics cards.

Fixed that for you.

Seriously though, I think its appalling that my ATI 2600 Pro HD runs SC2 on low, whereas if I go bootcamp it I can run it on medium AND get better FPS... pathetic.

They need to make a concerted effort to improve all previous drivers, even if its just a once over for old ones, and focus heavily on new ones. New computers and drivers aren't enough initial market penetration to heavily jump start mac gaming. It's still better for most mac users to play under windows, unless these new revisions really do come through, and even then thats only those with new computers.

I just wiped my iBook G3 computer yesterday and re-installed OS X 10.4. After that Software Update commanded me to download the "Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PowerPC)", which was 100-200 MB in size.

Oh this is great news!

I sure hope this fixes all the problems with the Nvidia cards - I can't play any source based games since 10.6.4 was released and general graphics performance seems down.

I know the person working on Mac OS X is probably busy, but is it too early for them to consider fixing the Finder -10810 / file system hanging bug? I just love rebooting, and it hasn't quite been a full year yet.

When does that happen?

Apple's support forum has a 500-post thread on it. It seems to be any non-internal file system. For me, it's usually thumb drives and camera cards, or MacFUSE. I know someone who suffers from it constantly on Time Capsule disks. Other people apparently see it with network file systems.

Do you not understand that the OS has to be aware of how the hardware or more specifically the USB 3 standard protocols works before it can support it? You need USB 3.0 drivers built into the OS in order to start using the USB 3 devices.

Hope this one works properly and fixes a lot of stuff that should have been ironed out in original release.
10.7 will hopefully be 2 years off. I'm sick of Mac OS complete upgrades for a while.

I'm just going to lay this out:

10.7, whenever we see it, is going to be REALLY jolting to long time mac users.

Sure will be. The way the OSX releases are going, 10.7 will stop every Mac dead in its tracks on installation. 6 months later a version will be released that allows slow computing and unexpected crashes. A year later an upgrade that actually works will be released.
