Worried about PPC macs software

Are you guys worried about software for power PPC macs?, If i buy the new powermac g5 i will keep it for about 6 years. I will not be very happy if i can not get software. I have saved for a long time to get it. Not cheap to buy a new one.

What do you thank about software for PPC macs after 2006 and up

How long will it last fat apps???

Why is no one talking software for ppc macs
Are you worried, explain your anwner why or why not

please help me in this buying choice

Alantis

Dual binaries will be around for at least 5-7 years in my opinion. Apple has done this before as you know; fat binaries supported 680x0 and PPC until a critical mass had been reached with PPC. There is no easy way to determine when it will no longer make sense for developers to ship dual binaries, but I think it's safe to say that when this happens, there will be compelling reasons for everyone to upgrade to new systems (and many will have done so anyway).

Not at all worried.

The PowerPC user base in 2006 will be 99.99999% of all Macs owned. Software developers would be stark raving mad not to support the vast majority of the people using the Mac platform. With XCode supporting the ability to make software support both processors there is no reason to be worried that software for PowerPC Macs will disappear with the advent of the Intel based machines.

Everything will be fine.

Noon, Eastern Time.
Meaning 9am my time! I love being on mountain time...one hour into my bio lab (chock full of eMacs connected to the internet) - I'll just bring my PB and connect to the University wifi. Sweetness I'm so hyped. My PB is on eBay right now at $1967 :D:D

Wow, good for you - it's great you've recovered so much of your PB investment back on eBay. I was lucky - the Apple Store in London has a 2 week return policy :)

.....hang on, what UK time are we looking at here for this show? All this eastern/ western/middleern US time is scrambling my brain.

And does anyone know of the best on-line places to follow coverage yet? For the last one most websites were next to useless and this one was impossible to keep connected to.......

Yes, as far as I can remember, EST is GMT-5 hours, so it should be about 5PM UK time.

edit: yes I'm right, currently in NY it's 07:21, and that's 5 hours behind our time (12:21).

axing the 12" PB sounds crazy...stupendous.
What does sound logical is that the 12" PB is too similar to the 12" iB.
A 13/15/17" PB WS line-up would be the perfect line-up, with 12/14" iB as cheaper alternatives.
If they DO axe the 12" my bet is on a temporary void in the PB line-up with a glorious introduction of the 13" WS together with the introduction of the Intel PB's. That would suck tho :(

Couldn't agree more... It would suck

Are you sure of those numbers?

The model number you listed for the better PowerMac (M9591LL/A) gets lots of hits in Google, some of them dated January 2002.

The only thing I am certain of is those are the numbers listed for the new ones in the inventory control system. Keep in mind that there is always the possibility that those are merely placeholders???? Not sure...

only a few hours to wait, now... my CC# is waiting :D

Let Dashboard help you. Drag a WorldClock widget on the dashboard and set it to New York time.

As far as the thickness and weight, like I said 2x before, go to the local CompUSA/BestBuy/whatever and see the new laptops. Ya, there are going to be bigger ones, but there most definitely are thinner, lighter laptops out there. Perhaps we've all become so enamoured with Apple's products that we've stopped looking at the latest and greatest from other companies??

I HAVE looked at what those other companies have to offer. And in my book (no pun intended), PowerBook is clearly superior. Yes, Vaio in a nice machine, but it's not a great machine, even though it's very expensive. Many new PC-laptops have those annoying glossy screens, and they feel plastique and cheap (my HP work-laptop certainly does), whereas PB feels like a solid slab of metal. And I think that the PowerBooks look absolutely drop-dead gorgerous. And none of the PC-laptops offer backlit keyboard :).

Not to question you, but I thought Mountain Time was 2 hours behind and Pacific Time was 3 hours behind EST? Just wondering and checking.

Er, this has already been covered.

i am with you... I know updates are coming for the PB, but I hope it is only internal and they leave the case alone. I use a 12" (lust for the 15" or 17") and like it better than any the laptop I have had. I sold my previous 12" in July and almost shed a tear when it shipped off. I used my desktop for 2 months and finally broke down and bought another 12". Sure the Sony looks good and others, but they are plastic, they are cheap, and they aren't much better in price when you compare the PB line with them.

I would say that I think the PB line should start with 15" @ $1799 with SD, more people would be willing to look at Macs if they cost slightly less.
