My first thought as well. But hey, maybe they want to blow everyone's mind and show off a dual-core PB AND shave some bucks off. Something wild like that would probably give sales a good shot in the arm.

But I do remain skeptical...

I think the most we'll see in terms of a processor update for the PowerBook is a 7448.

Agreed. But Apple's secretive presence at PhotoExpo tomorrow and the sizeable space they seem to have allocated, does make me curious as to the scope of what they will be announcing at the special event called for tomorrow ... some hardware ... perhaps including an Apple digital camera ... and maybe even some advanced photo software, though I can't see them trying to compete directly with Adobe ...

At least not YET!! :D

Cross Post from Price Rumor...
15" is M9969LL/A and 1999
17" is M9970LL/A and 2499
good...M9590LL/A and 1999
better... M9591LL/A and 2499
I actually thought new powerbooks would use "MA" model numbers... since the ones posted by CyberDoberman haven't been used i guess they might be, but where is the 12 incher... That's the one i've been waiting to buy for some three months now.. :(

Killing me

Let's face it, we have no idea what the hell they are going to put out. That new iMac came out of nowhere. Nonetheless, this may be another sleepless night for me. It's nice to know I'm not the only wierdo out there. Other than this Powerbook obsession of mine, I'm really pretty cool. I swear. :D
Anyway, thanks for the amusement and company guys. I can't wait to dump this G3 Powerbook of mine in the woodchipper. That's right G3. OUCH!!!

By the way... I'm deciphering these the best I can...

The actual printout I got showed the PowerMac models as:

M9969/LL/A
M9970/LL/A

However, I didn't think that Apple part numbers had 2 slashes... so I just edited that slash out... so it is conceivable that the Powerbooks have MA for the prefix?

Again, the store I got this from is huge, and prone to mistakes...

So take it for what it is worth.

Looks like we can't get specs yet... the shipment is in a HUGE crate that hasn't even been broken down yet. The CA store manager hasn't broken it down yet, and has been instructed not to until 9:35AM PST on Wed.

:(

Sorry, guys... I REALLY tried to get more info.

I guess we just have to wait. It's sleeping pills for me tonight, or I'll NEVER get to sleep.

One thing is for damn certain, I'm taking back the Dual 2.7ghz that I bought on Sept. 23, and ordering the biggest, baddest PowerMac they release.

As long as it isn't a Single 2.8Ghz with AGP 4x

Powermac Prediction

Good: Powermac Single 2.5 - $1999
Better: Powermac Dual 2.3 - $2499
Best: Powermac Dual 2.8 - $2999
Airport and Bluetooth Standard. Dual Core Chips. 300GB Drives. DDR2 RAM.

Keep in mind, I predicted that the wait time on the iMacs last week was a fluke. I'm also entirely too cynical to believe they will reach 3.0 GhZ.

listen to me, there WILL NOT BE an APPLE DIGITAL CAMERA TOMORROW. People who go to PhotoPro send 50grande on camera equipment. Apple is NOT going to start, hey lets see if we can make camers better than canon or nikon. Apple would fail miserably. Tomorrow will be updated powermacs, powerbooks, and photo mangement software. Photopro is not for the kiddies, people would come by and laugh if Apple were to show off a digital camera. Apple didn't rent a huge space next to Canon so they could try to show off a digital camera.

Um ... DUH ... ever heard of sarcasm? Next time I'll start the comment with ... "And now for a sarcastic point of view ..." ;)

sorry bud. you lost to the waiting game this time.

Just so you are aware of this but...

DAM, as you correctly mentioned, stands for Digital Asset Management, but, as you incorrectly implied, it is a lot more than Photo Management Software. No offence intended.

If they're really dropping the Powerbook 12" as ThinkSecret seems to suggest , I'm so grateful I bought the latest revision of it. As someone on this thread said earlier - I like my portables portable.

Hey thanks for making me feel better.. I too just bought a 12 incher powerbook 3 weeks ago and am feeling a bit sick about the new ones coming out. Especially since I am a new mac user and I was waiting for an update for about 4 months before I bought.

No way to return it that I know of ... has to be sold on eBay or something and a new one bought. Sorry! :(

ah dude you got nothing to worry about. the 12" is in a class of it's own. i bought one for my gf back in august and it is an awesome little machine. we have no regrets!

I didn't see anything new in the Thinksecret article. It just looked like a rehash of this thread, so I wouldn't expect them to drop the 12" PB.

The reason it's half-baked on the BMW is because:

1. The iPod takes the place of a disc in the CD-changer. Quite lame.
2. You can control volume and track using the car's audio system and buttons on the steering wheel. This part is ok.
3. You cannot see the name of the track or the artist or the album. The new Mercedes SLK convertible displays all or most of this information in the instrument cluster.

Keep in mind that cars today will display Radio station data (RDS) and track name from CDs (if CD is burned using CD-Text).

BMW has good integration with Satellite Radio, showing the full complement of song titles on the iDrive screen and providing more flexible menu navigation.

With iPod, however, the integration is, as I said, half-baked.

yeah and if you read all of what I said it was yes please to iDrive integration and also that for E39 or E60 owners even the half-baked solution would be nice compared to nought (ok, well compared to the crappy aux-in on the E39 - I haven't tried the aux-in on the E60 yet)

Are you sure of those numbers?

The model number you listed for the better PowerMac (M9591LL/A) gets lots of hits in Google, some of them dated January 2002.

On the E60 it would be nice even to play MP3 CDs or DVD-Audio. I have the premium sound system which, for a car, sounds really quite good, but it only plays standard CD. In this respect BMW is behind compared to Japanese luxury car makers. Would I like to see even the half-baked iPod integration in my E60? Well, I'm not so sure. I use Belkin's FM transmitter right now, so I'd prefer to see iPod integration done right.
