This histrionics over people's personal behavior is going to end at some point--it has to.

I don't know if this guy is actually a jerk or just trying to be funny.

News flash: Rich people are really, really awful. He's likely no worse than any upper level businessman. Your average corporate person does things much worse than what this guy merely said.

Walk downtown in a club / restaurant district on a Friday night and tell me women are demeaned by the mention of large breasts. They're literally on display everywhere.
This. Welcome to reality.

And this isn’t even accurate. Walk anywhere. Gym, work, grocery store, family park. You’ll see breasts and ass cheeks coming out, everywhere. And society actively cheers it on.

Isn’t this the curse of living in a digital society? Careless words and actions can be recorded and endlessly replayed. Those with no humility will set you up on a pedestal for judgement and criticism; they will demand the destruction and forfeiture of everything good in your life, with no regard or remembrance of their own folly.
Collectively we have forgotten how to condemn the action but forgive the person.

This is not an endorsement of whatever was recorded in that video, but a description of the world in which we live and a warning to those who inhabit it:

The internet never forgets, and seldom forgives.

Why even respond? Because you should be able to do whatever you want on your own personal time! What he said didn't break any laws. He didn't say anything about his employer. So much for freedom of speech.

Apple have policies against harrasment. Whilst I can't see anything in Apple's terms of employment that talks about bringing ill repute on the brand, I suspect when you're an Exec Manager being paid over US$130k - it's probably in their contracts.

Rightly shown the door. If he wants to talk like that in the privacy of his own home then that is his right. However he’s an Apple exec and talking like this in public brings the company into bad repute. I admire Apple for being decisive with stuff like this.

Here in the UK our Government staggers from one appaling sleaze scandal to the next yet no heads roll. The up shot? Corruption is now endemic. I’m glad to see a company I admire standing by its principles and kicking this goon into the long grass.
It looks like he is talking within the confines of his car, which under many US legal interpretations can be considered your home. What "principle" is Apple standing for exactly?

He probably should be more careful as an Apple exec, but too many people are quick to cancel these days. Why get offended so easily and tear peoples lives apart? Many of us older folks are not used to walking on eggshells.

My dad received one of the highest accolaydes under the British Commonwealth... he dedicated his working life to improving the lives of others... wonderful guy basically... but is incredibly "politically incorrect". So, I completely understand your comment about "older folks".

BUT, as a society, we are trying to improve. We are wanting to treat women better, to stop racism, and all the rest of it to make the world a better place for all, not just for old white men.

If Apple ignored this, they would have been condoning what he said. Even if a lawsuit follows, Apple made the right call. Yes, it's tough, but also necessary.

AppleInsider wrote:

“The clip was found by some employees of Apple's operations and procurement teams that Blevins heads as vice president.
The employees reported the TikTok to Apple's human resources department, which then opened an investigation. The video also spread to employees and some of Apple's important suppliers.

Jeff Williams, the company's Chief Operating Officer, has been Blevins's boss for most of the executive's 22-year stint at the company. Williams reportedly made the decision that Blevins had to go, and is assuming his duties.”

Sounds like someone who works in that department wanted to get him in trouble, and ran crying to HR.

🤷‍♂️

That certainly isn't a cop out.

What if I went out and told black jokes using the n-word? Should I not have to worry about my job?

Again, I doubt he was representing Apple in any official capacity but I am almost 100% certain that Apple (as just about every company does) has standards and codes on how employees are to conduct themselves, both on and off the clock

Honestly, no. I don’t think saying n***** is that big a deal.

A word is a word. How you treat people is what matters. I’m a big believer in the first amendment. Not just in the legal sense, but the spiritual sense. By that I mean, unless you are breaking a law, or going to get someone killed, you should be able to say anything you want, and others should be adult enough to respect it.

Not too long ago, you could say what you want and not have to worry about internet mobs demanding your job. Imagine the kids growing up today. They are going to have to worry about what they say at 16 or 18 haunting them when they are 50.

Again, how you treat someone should matter, not what you say.

Then, the next thing you know, there is a rumor that the “old white guys” had a party where someone made this joke. Next thing you know we end up with the guy getting fired.

It’s like men are allowed to make dumb jokes anymore. If no one is being hurt (physically, not offended, anyone can be offended by anything.), then no harm no foul.

We are turning the world into the largest group of elementary school kids. “Ms. Tic tok, he said something naughty, they need to be fired.”
That wouldn't happen at a party with old high school friends though. An office party with co-workers with different backgrounds? Yeah.

Wait, aren’t we supposed to be “tolerant” and “accepting” of everyone? Respect everyone, even if they dare have an opinion that you may not agree with? This hardly seems like freedom.

Without the freedom to speak, why have meetings to discuss anything; out of fear you may “offend” someone? Just say opinion of the masses; while everyone obediently nods their heads like a dog. That’s where we are, folks

Was this a slavery joke? We know that sexist jokes are a big no-no. You certainly did you part to drive that point home. Are slavery jokes OK? Should you lose you job over this comment?

I never insinuated or implied slavery; that is your presumption/assumption there. But in for a sheep. From Dictionary.app:

emancipate
verb

the serfs privately owned by members of the nobility were emancipated: free, liberate, set free, release, let loose/out, set loose/free, discharge; unchain, unfetter, unshackle, untie, unyoke, uncage, unbridle; give rights to, free from restriction/restraint; historical manumit; rare disenthrall. ANTONYMS enslave

He was released from/discharged from/freed from the restriction of/let loose from his position.

BL.

Everybody's got the wrong idea here, it's just that he wasn't quoting an AppleTV+ show.

Maybe he should have just added the addendum "..but my 'Innie' is far more respectful"

Smh. Take that "she dresses that way so she deserves it" ******** back to the 50's. I don't give a **** WHAT someone dresses like, they certainly don't deserve leering, sexist comments and it certainly doesn't entitle you to make them.

Your reply was for the comment made in post #259. You even quoted it when you made the comment.

BellSystem said "Screw Apple. They don't own employees. We stopped that practice in the 1800's." and you replied that they emancipated him.
possible racist comment.jpg

So in this context you comment had nothing to do with slavery and those who think so are sheep?

As you seem to be so kind in explaining things with dictionary definitions and all that, could you explain what BellSystem was hinting at?

Where did I mention sex? This applies to both sexes. I don’t want to see anyone’s breasts or cheeks in public. How about we bring back class?
