He did it on his private time, but he did it on camera for a prominent social media personality (who no doubt told him this was going on TikTok). Surely if someone asks you what you do for a living, you would consider that broadcasting whatever answer you give online for the world to see could have repercussions in your work life.
And this is the problem with employers in today's society, they feel they have the right to control every aspect of their employees private lives. So what if the man said is published on social media, it's his 'private life' and what he does in his own private time is just that, his own private time and his employer has no right to intervene unless the person names their employer. Many many years ago society was so much different on it's views of working life and private life. It was viewed that both were seperate of one another. In the past i've worked with people who have been extremely professional in their working environment, do their job, put 100% effort into their work, are a model employee but outside of work time they are a completely different person, they are brash, loud, rude, insulting, don't give a damn but once back in the work environment they become the most professional, polite, well mannered person you could ever want to meet. I've seen women in nightclubs be involved in party games where they are having the time of their lives, they've either ended up topless or half naked and then you hear comments 'oh, isn't that so n so who works at so n so'. Then come the monday after their antics over the weekend end the women involved are as professional as ever. Usually a quick mention of what they got up to over the weekend is met with a few laughs and smiles but it's quickly back to work. There was never ever any 'she must be fired' from the employer.
A classic example of today's society is how people viewed the behaviour of the young female Finland prime minister Sanna Marin at a private house party. She was living it up, singing and dancing as a PRIVATE house party and yet videos of the party was leaked to the media with people commenting that her behavious was totally unacceptable for countries leader to behave in such a way. It was her 'private time' but yet even in her own private time people are saying how she should behave. It is oh so wrong. What people do in their own private time is just that, their own private time and employers and other people should stay out of it UNLESS the people involved directly involve the people they work for.
If the man is an excellent employee, does the work that is asked of him, puts 100% effort into his job then as such Apple should be backing such an employee. Apple should have told the media it is none of their business what the man does in his private time, regardless of how Apple feels about it but no, Apple decided to throw him under the bus and protect their image.
