I loved that movie. :)
I hated it, and never been a fan of Dudley Moore or Liza Manelli either.
That said, this particular line was a running gag meme for quite a few years afterwards, particularly among people using it to deflect from or avoid disclosing to someone what they really did for a living. I suspect that as he was in a Maclaren, the dude didn’t want to disclose that he worked for Apple and did an off joke instead.

Smh. Take that "she dresses that way so she deserves it" ******** back to the 50's. I don't give a **** WHAT someone dresses like, they certainly don't deserve leering, sexist comments and it certainly doesn't entitle you to make them.
So the 20 something woman who crossed the street in my town the other day in a tshirt-as-dress that barely reached the bottom of her buttocks should be completely ignored, not looked at, and not judged in any way, positively or negatively? Do you honestly believe she chose to dress like that to avoid stares? To avoid judgement?

News flash: choices have consequences, for men AND women.

Stupid thing to say while being recorded? YES
Stupid thing to say while being recorded as an employee of Apple? YES
Poor attempt at humor? Depends on what you find funny, it was obviously a play on a line from a movie.
Should someone lose their job over an "in the moment" reaction to having a camera shoved in their face? NO
Cancel culture at work? YES
You don’t get it

Can someone explain to me what is the offensive part of his response? Owning rich cars? Playing golf? Having a woman with big breasts? Who he offended? The people with normal cars, no hobbies and wives/girlfriends with little to no breasts? In what way this is offensive? Why should anyone be fired for making a joke which is quote of a movie character?

Your reply was for the comment made in post #259. You even quoted it when you made the comment.

BellSystem said "Screw Apple. They don't own employees. We stopped that practice in the 1800's." and you replied that they emancipated him.

So in this context you comment had nothing to do with slavery and those who think so are sheep?

As you seem to be so kind in explaining things with dictionary definitions and all that, could you explain what BellSystem was hinting at?

Perhaps you should be directing your comment at @BellSystem, as they are the ones who inferred ownership. I stand by what I said about Apple letting him go from the position he was hired there for. But apparently, I have to go even further. From Dictionary.app again:

let someone go

I was upset about letting him go, but he assured me he'd find another job: dismiss, discharge, lay off, give notice to, pay off, remove, release; British make redundant; informal sack, give someone the sack, fire, give someone their marching orders, send packing, give someone the boot, give someone the bullet, give someone the push, give someone the (old) heave-ho, boot out, axe; British informal give someone their cards. ANTONYMS retain

He was let loose/let go from/emancipated/released/dismissed/fired from his job. Again, you are the one inferring/implying slavery, not I.

I'll leave you the last word on this, because I've taken my time explaining.

So, it wasn’t funny. I get that.
He quoted a line from a movie in an attempt to be funny, probably finding some truth in that line… otherwise he woudn’t have used it.
But, to get fired on that? Why are corporates nowadays so touchy? Afraid that someone might get offended?
He seems to been of huge financial value for Apple.

One public “slip up”. It’s not like Steve Ballmer was from Microsoft… becoming famous for his public weirdness…

You don’t get why any females working for him wouldn’t feel like they were on equal footing to the males? Why anyone he had to deal with as a rep of Apple wouldn’t be put off, given differing customs/culture? Ok
Do you imply that he is promoting his employees based on breast size? How the subjective feelings of his employees are relevant? Do you think that man who like woman with big breast should be discriminated and marginalized? Why? I'm starting to get offended by your comments so watch out!

Why didn't you use the the words "let go", "dismissed" or "fired" in that context when you replied? Is emancipated being used often when people are being fired?

How many discussions between coworkers you think went like this:
"- Man, I heard they emancipated Jerry yesterday.
- Yeah, that's rough."

If this were a gay executive making lewd gestures during a drag performance at a bar, or perhaps if he was “celebrating” his sexuality in a revealing BDSM outfit at a Pride parade, and somehow footage of it made its way to social media, rest assured that Timmy & Co would find no offense in it. In fact, such display of courage would be applauded.

And before any of you try to come at me with silly accusations of homophobia, I AM A GAY MAN. I’m not willfully obtuse, so I am gay AND capable of pointing out the obvious. 💅🏻

Please.

you can still make jokes, this time it requires actual thought of the consequences.

One has to think first.

what I consider funny, does it reveal my character as a sexist, racist, homophobe, bigot or some rich insecure privileged a**hole needing to lord it over everyone else?

Apple is the one that fired him…er I mean he “departed”
Jokes shouldn't have consequences, because these are JOKES.

I also didn't know that telling a bad-taste joke reveals your character...

What if he had said "I work 80 hours a week, have a crappy car, don't have any hobbies and my wife is flat as kitchen table"? Would that be equally offensive?

As a follow up question, don't you think that being emancipated has a positive connotation while getting fired has a negative connotation? Do you think it is right to say that being fired and emancipated mean the same thing? Did Lincoln fire the slaves?

"I came here to drink milk and kick ass... and I've just finished my milk" quoting Moss for the IT Crowd playing homage to Roddy Piper from They Live.... quick fire me immediately I've just insulted the lactose intolerant!

He actually seems like a funny guy, but obviously this kind of "blue" humour is not suitable for Apple, they didn't hire him to be a late night comedian after all. I kinda want to give him the benefit of the doubt that his comments about women were just part of his satirising the pigheaded executive. And he must be good at his job to be a top executive of something as important as procurement at Apple. I'm sure he will land on his feet.

Everything has consequences. Jokes aren’t some magical thing that are immune to judgement. If I say something intending it as a joke and you find it offensive, that affects how you perceive me. I didn’t have to tell the joke, that was a gamble on my part and if I told a better joke it might have paid off. Same applies here, except since he’s an exec at a trillion dollar company his joke has consequences bigger consequences than mine. Welcome to life.

So what if he was a VP at Apple. To sack him in this manner just goes to prove that Apple 'owns' their employee's and if they do not like what the see, hear or read then the employee is gone regardless if what is done is done on their own private time and does not mention or involve the company they work for. The job at Apple has obviously made him a wealthly man and to gloat at his weatlh he used a quote from a movie. Is what he did a crass move? yes. Should he be fired for it? No. Should he have been given a warning about his behaviour and told to be careful how he behaves in public in future because his association with Apple could give people excuses to bash Apple?, Yes.

It is wrong for companies to basically imply that they 'own' their employee's lives.
