I’m not seeing anything wrong here. A very successful, probably a little self-centered humorous guy living the life. I hope for Apple he wasn’t fired just on grounds of speaking his mind a little carelessly on video. Times we live in that people get annoyed that easily… Focus on yourselves people ✌🏼

Just because you see something in a movie doesn’t mean it’s something you can say or do in real life. I watched Ted Lasso the other day and enjoyed it, but if I went around talking to people like I was Roy Kent, I’d probably get my head caved in. Tv isn’t real life.
You’ve never talked to anyone about the show? Never quoted dialogue? Don’t ever tell jokes?

He wasn’t even “speaking his mind”. He was just joking around on his free time at a car show. This wasn’t company business. He had no idea some guy recording on a cell phone would put him in blast and cost him his job.

It reminds me of the coach who was fired a few days ago for having an affair with his coworker. I can't understand why affairs at the workplace are a problem in the US. The workplace is the place where most people meet their partner, because there they spend a lot of time per day.

The guy was at a car show, NOT at a company event or representing Apple and he was quoting a movie?

I dont get why people give a ****.

When you go so high up, you have to be more cautious and responsible for comments you make as many upcoming people look up to you as a wannabe role model. It's not about what one person said, but it's about how many he can influence, which decides how severe the statement is. IMO of course.

Is that what I said? No. This dude was poorly quoting a movie from the 80s totally out of context, no wonder people thought it was him just being himself.

If I vaguely quoted some offensive line from a show to someone who had never watched it, I’d have to be an idiot to assume they’d be in on the joke.

Would a woman ever be cancelled for infidelity?

Even suggesting such a thing would get a guy cancelled for misogyny.

Really now? Are we talking about influence? In this day an age? Where a Cardy B twitter account is more important than any person in existence? Those sound like awesome double standards in my book.

The world is filled with dangerous influencers, but when they serve a specific purpose and agenda, its fine...

If you are at a social function on your own free time and clearly joking around with someone, you think it’s normal to have the guy lose his job over that?

This is the world we live in today. Unguarded, crass joke, will always offend someone, especially if captured on video. Pretty sad state of affairs, as he was obviously enjoying his personal time and thought he was being funny.

But he should have known better. We are all human and we all make mistakes, unfortunately mistakes can be costly and this one cost him his job.

Problem is held a senior position at Apple and is expected to maintain a squeaky clean image and lead by example. Apple will not tolerate anything that brings the company into disrepute. Everyone is expendable at Apple.

In all honesty I dont want to live in "your" world. This incredibly censored and oversensitive world (not to mention insanely hypocritical) ready to cancel anything that doesnt conform to its liking can go nuke itself up.

A manufacturing company i used to work for had numerous work place affairs, in the 13 years I was there there was approximatly 22 marriages of an employee marrying another employee who they met whilst working at the company and no one was fired for doing so.

Companies should be protecting their employees, not 'throwing them under the bus' at the first sign of a link to the employer.

Again, is that what I said? No.

I don’t think he should have lost his job over this, but I also think that as an exec for a multi trillion dollar company, he should have known better than to say stuff like this on camera, joke or not. When you’re a c-level exec with 100+ people reporting to you, the things you say in your private life can have repercussions in your work life.

This has to be the stupidest decision since John Scully fired Steve Jobs. This man made a joke, it fell flat, you sack a man for the things he does not the things he says. If he was molesting women at work then fine but what they have done is to shoot themselves in the foot. What he said today would have been forgotten tomorrow if they had simply ignored it.

My world? You mean reality?
You very well know what kind of world I am referring to

Everything has consequences. Jokes aren’t some magical thing that are immune to judgement. If I say something intending it as a joke and you find it offensive, that affects how you perceive me. I didn’t have to tell the joke, that was a gamble on my part and if I told a better joke it might have paid off. Same applies here, except since he’s an exec at a trillion dollar company his joke has consequences bigger consequences than mine. Welcome to life.
This is the kind of oversensitivity, over censorship of life that the world doesnt need. Virtue signaling / cancel culture and all. Hypocrisy at its finest. (that last one is mentioned generally not towards you specifically)

(Without judging too much if that guy's response was funny)

I don't understand why are folks so surprised by his firing. Tim's Apple brands itself as a woke, pink-, green- and whatnot washing company from his inauguration as CEO, so it was expected to happen.

Lol. Please, elaborate, what type of world is it? I’m curious to see what fantasy you’ve cooked up in your head.

How is understanding that actions have consequences the same as censorship? You’ve always been able to say whatever you want, you just have to be prepared to deal with what happens afterwards. This isn’t new.

Oh no, dont misunderstand me, I am not surprised in the slightest. Apple (like any major corporation these days) makes products I obviously like, but in terms of ethics, virtues etc they are the very epitome of hypocrisy, just like cancel culture is. And i cant stand their virtue signaling.

So no, I am not surprised, but that wont stop me for condemning it. I will definitely expose the hypocrisy and utter lunacy behind such news in every given chance.

Are you even serious? Are you going to pretend that in this day and age you can speak freely just like you did a decade ago? That you can tell a joke and not worry about losing your job? If you claim that the world is just how it always was, that comedy is how it always was, that there is no difference whatsoever, I dont think we have much to debate.

You either know very well were I am getting at, or you are trying to act like a wall in this discussion.
