The only time I miss touchID is when I'm driving in my non-CarPlay vehicle and try to have Siri "read new messages." It's kind of hard to keep the eyes on the road when you have to look at your phone to unlock it.

have you used both phones before? Because the way you talk it doesn't seem like you have.
ok ok this is going to be hard to grasp but a phone FLAT on a table surface while you're eating yes you do not need to PICK up the phone with Touch ID. You put your finger on the flat phone and magically unlocks you don't have to pick it up and angle it towards your face like you do with faceid. Its just flawed by design. If you can't see this then I can't help you.

I'm baffled you're still going with this scenario. So you need to pick the phone up for a second for FaceID? So what? You can put it right back down after it's unlocked, and you can do it with the same hand you would have used for TouchID. Or are your hands so small and weak that you need to use two hands to lift an iPhone?

Reactions: Hi Tek and MacNeb
FaceID makes it possible to unlock my iPhone and iPad while doing stuff that stains my hands and finger. Doing some baking? No TouchID for you. Doing some cleaning? No TouchID for you. Taking a jog during the winter? Better get off those gloves if you want to unlock your phone etc..
Ok... your phone is unlocked... now what? Your fingers are still disgusting or inside gloves and the primary hands free method of interaction, Siri, doesn't require unlocking the phone. I never understood what possible benefit unlocking the phone without touching it gives you since the next step is touching the phone.

This argument always struck me as the equivalent of a dog chasing a car, what exactly was the dog's plan after it caught the car?

I know it's a mad idea, but have you considered getting out of bed?
Smart guy here.

All the hate and negativity on this site I’m not sure why any of you buy Apple products at all.
It is a strange and puzzling thing. An Apple rumors and information website full of a bunch of complainers who seemingly like nothing Apple does.

Face ID takes some getting use to. I think the haters would be less hateful about it if they used it for a month.

I love it. Now when I use devices with a home button I'm confused, like WTF is that for?
Oh yeah, and the gesture based navigation associated with Face ID devices is so much better than home button based.

I’m kind of on the fence about FaceID. Sometimes I like it but then there are those times when it doesn’t work for whatever reason and I wish for Touch ID again.

Huh?? The number of people who won't buy an iPhone until TouchID returns is equal to those who won't buy an iPhone until the 3.5mm headphone jack returns. In other words, it's infinitesimally small compared to the over 200 MILLION people who will buy an iPhone this year.
I mean, we’re in agreement. Not sure what that has to do with my post you quoted though?

My faceID never works at the distance depicted in the ad, nor would it work at the angle depicted.

Also doesn’t work in bright sunlight, or holding the phone in landscape mode, or in bed with the side your face smooshed in a pillow - never had any of these issues with touchID.
I would disagree with you. I just tested out my FaceID on my XS Max. It goes up to a maximum of 45° in angle before it stopped recognising me. I also tried stretching out my hands to a point FaceID stopped working. It is at least 40-50cm. So the ad is totally accurate in its depiction.

I did a 30 day trial comparing the 8+ and X a while back. Recently I had to upgrade to an XS Max when my 8+ work phone died. Getting used to Face ID brought back all the issues I had with the X. Wish Apple would include both: Face ID and under glass Touch ID.
Both have their good and bad points.

It does under optimal conditions. I tried to recreate the lounge ad just now using my patio lounger and it only works if I turn "Required Attention" off. o_O

Touch id is vastly superior to face id especially when using apple pay. I have used both extensively

Agreed. You avoid touching the phone to unlock it, only to have to touch the phone to use it. In terms of workflow, dropping one touch from hundreds makes bu**er all difference.

Hey, Tim, how about at least a choice between the two for those of us with ugly faces? It may be a new concept at Apple, customer choice, but at least give it some thought.

iPhone 7, and iPhone 8. done!

Touch ID is far easier and More convenient to use. I won’t be purchasing any iPhone until touchid is back

iPhone7, and iPhone 8, Now run right put there Bosco!

the people who are haters are not the ones buying Apple products, silly! The haters (sometimes I think paid schills, but who ever accused me of being a conspiracy theorist). will say anything true or not. And why are you even reading an article here it you have no interest? very interesting!

More secure: someone has your phone and points it at your face. Your phone opens up.

not unless you are looking at it. and if you are asleep, someone presses your hand onto your phone and it opens right up (and then proceeds to either put shaving cream on your hand, or to dip your hand in warm water.

you are one of the few who shares this opinion, but thanks for sharing it with us. The most convenient by far is Apple Watch!

For you maybe. TouchID never worked 100% with my fingers. 6, 6S, 7 - tried it on all of those and it was about 75% reliable for me. Maybe my prints are too shallow. Maybe my hands are too sweaty or something. I don't know, but with TouchID I ended up typing in my passcode very often.

FaceID on the other hand is 100% reliable.

I'm the same way. I can never even remotely relate to the people that want Touch ID back. I had issues where I had to retry Touch ID all the time, especially in the winter when my hands were dry. Face ID is so seamless I forget it's there almost all of the time. I use it with sunglasses, at different angles from my face, on my desk, etc. I very rarely have to make it retry.

you miss the point. Its just so freakin easy, quick and secure. lift, look, swipe your phone is open and off to the races. Hey I get it if you don't want it, go for an iPhone 7 or 8 or an android. The beauty is, the world doesn't need you to be right or agree with anyone else on anything, everyone is still OK.

And the dog is going to jump in the window and eat your chocolate!

Apple watch isn’t a serious piece of tech its a toy at best, so it doesn’t even enter my area of thinking sorry

Yeah, obviously 1 in a million is much smaller than 1 in 50K. But, Where are independent researches that backs this claim up? Or is this just Apple themselves bragging about this?

Where's your research that says otherwise? Certainly you have some if you are going out of your way to accuse Apple's engineers of being liars?
