Aaaaaaaah look at all the cool MacBooks with their glowing Apple logos that you got rid of... :-(

Edit: sorry there was 1 new non glowing MacBook there and I’m pretty sure one of those pics was Michael fassbender playing Steve Jobs
Spot on. Everybody loves the glowing apple, especially their ad agency but except for Jony Ive.

It’s not about current or out of date hardware, it’s about creative tools for music production and this ad is as close as it gets when it comes to reality.
I do this for a living and wherever you go - it’s not connected to size or budget of the studio - you will find a variety of Mac computers from the last decade.
Even the nMP 6,1 is used quite often, but remember we’re talking audio here, not video.
So I enjoyed the ad because it felt quite authentic.
Yup, lots of Macs in use by pros in music production and the audio industry in general—including many older Macs, which are still perfectly capable machines for many uses.

But there are those on MR forums (with zero relevant experience) who will be happy to inform you that Apple has lost the pro market, for a variety of reasons which they can explain to you at length. They’ll also tell you the 6,1 was a complete failure, that nobody cares how quiet or transportable it is and that nobody buys it because they’d rather buy old, used towers due to their upgradability lol.

We might have talked about it at some other point but I own the 6,1 and the 5,1 and I like them both.
And you're absolutely right, the 6,1 is super transportable, I use it for orchestral score recordings outside the studio.
Today a friend from an other studio asked me if it would be stupid to get another 5,1 because of it's age.
But for audio post production and music production it's still sufficient, so why not?

When it comes to playback performance the 12C 3,46 GHz 5,1 is a better (less CPU usage) but for offline mixdowns (rendering) the 6,1 10C 3 GHz is noticeably faster. I guess due to the better single core performance.

Yes, a 6-core, 16GB RAM, 256GB NVMe Mac Pro costs $2700
while
a 12-core, 32GB RAM, 1TB NVMe, 5TB 7200RPM PC costs half.

A Linux PC could be considered to be better, but with few mainstream applications.
I'd probably get either the new mac mini 6 core I7 or a cheese grater 12 core...My 4 core 2012 Mac Pro is enough for what I do right now but has started to act up ;(
I've too much software on mac and like the integration with my toys to go pc.
And a Hackintosh is not all wine and roses either and is technically illegal from what I understand.

What about bringing back USB-A port? Or accompanying some fundamental ports that musicians use a lot? Or all of a sudden they are abandoning their working reliable $10k+ equipment to embrace USB-C?

Oh, I am sorry. We have DONGLES. My bad. Just pack dongles with their MacBook Pro. That's fine.

Haha, love the bite:).
