I really don't feel the price is crazy tbh, the unit is a MacBook Pro inside $2000 plus 2 4K displays, plus a **** load of sensors, cameras and accelerometers, and a secondary CPU/GPU for processing inputs.

If the specs were in a Mac it would be the same price.

Will they make an Air version later on... Yes.

Do they need to now? No.

Just seeing the manufacturing process you can see how overengineered the thing is. No wonder it's so absurdly overpriced with how complicated it is to build. Some of these steps and components are just completely unnecessary, like the EyeSight Display. Just cut that out, saves a lot of steps in the manufacturing process and opens up different components that could be used instead as well as reducing weight.

Hopefully Mira Labs can get the manufacturing simplified so they can get future headsets a lot cheaper

Very nice high quality video, possibly not shot on an iPhone. When Apple starts focusing on the product it’s just less magical. A complete 360º turn from their AirPods campaign. We already know how goes into making your products Apple, show me the why.

Yeah, just remove the most distinctive feature of the headset! 🤪

I don't think price is crazy, but I think wearing big rock on your face is.

If you want to exclude one of Apple’s primary UX focuses on not making this an isolation machine, sure.

You people may not understand it, but there’s a reason Apple has been working with Stanford for over a decade now developing the entire UI and UX.

Giving people the ability to “see” you is a core philosophy that Apple has for this type of product. You guys may disagree that it’s necessary, but Apple has planted their flag here for a reason.

and "the robotics" is part of the price.. all those machines and engineering involved is not cheap.
The first wave of shipments (~500K) will more than cover all the costs of every robot in this video. The human labor investment involved will take years to recoup and never stops costing until we replace the majority with robots.

Yes the most distinctive feature that is also one of the biggest turnoffs as most seeing this render instantly get turned off from the headset

Pretty much everyone unanimous said just cut the Eyesight Display for the regular Apple Vision model when that eventually arrives.

th

Seriously look at it the EyeSight Display does nothing. I haven't even seen a single image or video of any reviewers actually seeing their eyes and if you could, you barely see their eyes at all. It's a waste of space and components that it's purpose can be served by just gluing googly eyes to the HMD.

It's as useless as the Apple Watch's "share your heart rate" that was heavily advertised back during Series 0, a feature you probably forgot even exists as they immediately stopped mentioning when Series 1 rolled around. Just cut the EyeSight display, and then the headset already gets a massive improvement. Less steps to build it, less parts to worry about, and as a result an instantly lower price.

Apple today provided a behind-the-scenes look at how its upcoming Vision Pro headset is manufactured in a video uploaded to its YouTube channel. The video was also shared by Apple CEO Tim Cook on social media platform X.

"A peek behind the scenes to see how we make Apple Vision Pro, our first spatial computer," said Apple, in the video's description on YouTube.

Apple began accepting pre-orders for the Vision Pro in the U.S. today, with pricing starting at $3,499. The headset launches February 2.

Interesting how they only have 1 shot showing human labor. I wonder what the real human/robot ratio is in the manufacturing of AVP.

For its currently limited ability, I think the price is rather high. Gen 2 and Gen 3 might be a lot different in that regard.

where are the explanations? specifically on the engineering, the process and complexity? this video transmits like it's just another headset, people need to know how ambitious this project is on all aspects, software, hardware, optics etc.

it's like the most advanced technological consumer electronic device made in the last decade or maybe ever.
Moreover, they don’t show any of the actually interesting stuff, like the display panels, lenses, logic board, cameras, fans, and so on.
