Is she retiring because of all those FaceTime failure fiasco with the customers?
Or the forced download of the new OS that people elected not to download?

Her pic

This is her official Apple ID badge photo. Sheezus, you people are ridiculous. It's the same as Tim's. Of course its a forced smile.

I am a woman and I also think she has a bad photo here. There's zero smile in her eyes, has nothing to do with her looks in general. Just that she doesn't look happy in that photo whatsoever. But hey, way to jump to conclusions about a bunch of people on here. It would be sexist NOT to point that out because we would be giving her special treatment as if she was too weak to take the criticism.

True. Though arguably the comment regarding her photo was irrelevant for the subject matter, which I hope is why people are calling them out on it.

Totally, the two absolute worst PR problems Apple has ever encountered.

Give this thread some time. Even with people now alerted to the issue, there will be plenty of inappropriate gender comments.

You're just stroking the fire adding issues where they have yet to be any. And I'm just to ignore your comments? So I should just let you insult all of the "many" that can apparently only "see her as an object"? I'm tired of people being passive to the point where we have to remind people "See something? Say something." Yeah, I'm calling crap when I see it. Get off your soap box. If the comments turn to that, fine, but until then take the chip off your shoulders.

Interesting how articles with pictures of male apple execs don't get so much criticism for how they look.

Maybe because we're use to them being all... well, not the best of the bunch... minus Ives.

Although it's not an official headshot, this is far worse.

Looks like she's trying to push out a poopy.

You're weird.

Evidently, too many of those who are finding fault with the photo of Katie Cotton spend too much time watching porn, expecting to find perfectly decorated women. Your mommas never taught you that, if you have nothing nice to say, it's better to keep your mouth shut.

Her age is not given, so anyone who knows can post it - or not. It is irrelevant.

She wants to spend more time with her family. That's a decision I understand. I made the same one after 9/11.

I was at WWDC 2010 and after the keynote snuck past security and really wanted to meet Steve Jobs. The only person that noticed was Katie and the stare she gave me made me change my mind, LOL. Anyways here's a picture I got of that moment.

Apple had a PR dept?

That must have been the easiest job in the company.

Day 1: Say nothing.
...
Day 4017: Say nothing.

Welp, my work here is done...

So on a real subject, I'm sure she has a ton of stock and decent pay on top of that, too. She may even be paid something upon leaving.

Personal story about Katie Cotton. Back when I was freelancing I covered the MWSF release of the G4 iMac in 2002. The media event was scheduled the day before the expo opening because (IIRC) Time Magazine had broken the story when it was supposed to be embargoed. As a result the media was let into the Apple section of the hall a day early. Steve was there to talk to the A-list media but all of us got to roam the floor, to take pictures and find somebody (other than Steve) to answer questions. It was clear that Katie Cotton was Steve's designated protector. If we spent too much time in Steve's personal space, she zoomed in like an attack bomber. A formidable person. Quite tall. She warned me off a couple of times, but I still managed to a get a couple of good pictures of Steve.

She's retired early. She's rich. She's happy. Now she can take muscle relaxants and get a more natural smile. And all will be well.

MacRumors. Can we please have the next Discussion Thread topic. Thanks.

good riddance

fiercely protected, flat out lied, same thing.... they are smiling in the halls at 1 infinite loop today! She ws pretty much disliked by everyone inside and outside of Apple. Can't wait for her book to hit the shelves!

Well, I was one of the really lucky ones. After the Macworld 2000 keynote address, I made my way to the front of the room, broke through the crowd of media reporters, and happened to get right up front, and Steve turned around...and I introduced myself. Got to chat with him for about a minute, told him about how I was VP of my local Mac Usergroup....told him about my Dad getting his first computer, an iMac...and about the various Macs I own, etc. He was impressed that I was 17 years old and in San Francisco for the Macworld convention by myself. I told him I was excited about Mac OS X (which was demoed to the public for the first time that morning), and about the .mac service which was introduced. All in all, it was really an experience to get to meet him, and something I will remember for the rest of my life. Probably the most influential and well-known personality I have ever met. It just took the guts of going up on stage and being in the right place at the right time. Nobody will ever get to have this opportunity again...I am glad to have met him while he was still with us. :apple:

who ever took her headshot should be fired.

I agree. The photo is badly done. The 'smile' almost looks like a grimace to me (if that's the only way she can smile, then apologies to the photographer).

It's hardly sexist to comment on a bad picture of anyone. There are other PR headshots I've thought were badly done as well. (from apple and other companies)

ANYONE can have a bad picture taken of them. I could point you to every selfie I've ever taken. :)
