Actually, it's more like an alpha. Beta releases should already be tested well enough that they don't brick significant numbers of devices. Unless you are 2024 Apple and growing sloppier.

If I remember correctly a similar situation occurred several years ago and it turned out to be a problem with the installation instructions that were downloaded with the OS.

Developer Beta testing is designed to catch these issues. Nobody should be running to install these early betas on all of their devices.
As long as it is backed up, no reason why not to for devs. How much of your business critical information is on your iPhone? Yes I have both iPhones backed up via Mac and iCloud.

Three hours after releasing the second betas of iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3, Apple has pulled the updates from the Developer Center and over the air, meaning they are no longer available to download and install.

iOS-17.3-Buggy-Feature.jpg

Apple has removed the iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3 betas after a number of people reported that the software is bricking devices. According to reports on the MacRumors forums, Twitter, and Mastodon, some iPhone owners who updated found their devices stuck in a boot loop.

The only fix to the issue appears to be restoring a stuck device, which is why Apple has pulled the update. Once the bug is addressed, Apple will re-release the beta.

There are reports that suggest the iOS 17.3 boot loop bug could be related to the Back Tap setting. A log shared by developer Guilherme Rambo indicates that a Back Tap setting caused his device to crash, and there have been several other affected users who have Back Tap enabled in some capacity.

Some others who had Back Tap enabled were able to install the update, and others who did not have the feature on had the booting issue, so it is not entirely clear how Back Tap is involved.

So how do I proceed from here?? I am currently experiencing the boot loop and my phone can't do anything. I will periodically get the apple logo but thats about it.

The back tap doesn't exist in iPadOS 17.3 betas, so curious to why Apple removed it. Yes they have the same build, but I read of no one having a iPad with these issues? I don't use back tap on my 2 iPhone 14 Pro's and my iPad mini 6 is just fine on beta 2.

I use back tapping as a trigger to bring the list of Shortcuts to the front. Even before this embarrassment (just three days into the new year! Well done Apple!) it was an irritating experience. Hopefully, Apple will take a moment to fix this "feature" pronto.

As a couple of users pointed out, this beta is for developers, meaning they are paying a $99 yearly fee to beta test, they aren't doing it for free.
Apple open the flood gates a day after WWDC 2023 started allowing one to sign up for a lot of the dev documents and get free access skipping the $99. see below
Yes some people already paid on June 5th , then they make it free on June 6th.

Normally I’d say some people are being over the top with their criticism but I still haven’t been able to get a resolution for the defective iPhone 15 pro Apple sold me so I tend to agree.

Something needs to be done in Apple's software team management. I know this is a beta and not even public, but having so many bugs and memory leaks in production is ridiculous.

I wonder, what a total mess it was when they finished the initial versions of the new iOS/macOS, and Craig had to put development on hold for a week to fix bugs...

I had the same problem and was able to fix it by a DFU restore to a downloaded restore IPSW file. I had to start again as a new device, but at least my iPhone 15 PM is working with the beta2 installed.

iOS is in pretty miserable state these days. I’m on the supposedly stable current iOS. Would you believe I was considering installing 17.3 beta 2 because it might be *less* problematic??

I was able to install the beta and didn't run into any issues. Working fine... however, I did notice that my Apple Watch dev beta has been withheld from installing. It's hung. 🤔

That is ridiculous, there is no reason to be using that much storage.
