Not all M4 iPad Pro owners have had an issue installing the update, and it could be linked to installing the new iOS 17.7 update before installing iOS 18. Apple will make the software available again when the underlying problem has been addressed.
It's rare for this to happen but it is a new processor to deal with that is not used on anything else yet.

I don’t have an M4 iPad Pro but I updated all of my devices to 17.7 (see below) last night with no issue… planning to wait on 18 until the bugs start being fixed. Too many reports of issues of all kinds for my taste right now.

I actually installed 17.7 by accident since that was what appeared on the software update page yesterday and I tried to speed run through it since I was updating multiple devices.

I was kind of upset with myself for wasting time, but I had no issues subsequently installing 18.0.

No bricking problem for me. Wonder what the root cause could be, since this does not appear to be a 100% issue.

I don't understand the rush for people to update to the latest software. I learned that the hard way when a software update bricked my wife's $100K car and we ended up having to trade it and get a new one to solve the problem. I will never update my perfectly functioning iPhone 15 Pro Max to the new iOS until maybe 2 months from now when all the issues are resolved. Too much risk as my phone is my main way of working.

I didn't intend to run 17.7 but I went too fast and selected it before I realized. Oh well. I guess I'm just fortunate that my iPad isn't my main work device. Waiting on the update from Apple support regarding my return/replacement.

My iPad M4 11 inch has been freezing, crashing and getting the spinning ball of death right through the beta process. Less and less but still happening now.

Imagine not testing on your flagship devices 😂
Employees' jobdesk overload.
They gotta stay overnight for weeks to add some new stellar features that you gonna love, and enhancing the performance of the iPads that you already know and love.
So they ain't gotta time for that QA & UAT test.

They should pull ios 18 from iphones like mine (iphone se 2022) because it destroyed my icloud storage. My storage increased so much for no reason even after I deleted old backups. Ive filed many complaints on the feedback app and spoke to apple theyre HIGHLY AWARE of this. I am convinced they accidentally gave us beta

I installed 17.7 before 18 and I haven’t had any trouble. M4 12.9 base wifi. I suppose the returned devices will be magically un-bricked and show up in the refurb store soon but they don’t want to distribute the fix.
