That explains a lot…🤦🏻‍♂️
I just tried to reinstall it over my current iPadOS 18 on my M4 iPad Pro, and my Mac showed a weird error. Couldn‘t even restore it properly…

Its not only ipadOS, ios 18 is also affected, same behaviour (CLEAN INSTALLS not updates OTA) at least in my case.

What phone do u have? I have iphone se 2022 bought it last yr. It downloaded but it destroyed my icloud storage. Apple is aware of this though. Plus apps are slow opening and it just feels like a beta. Calls are dropping too

So I bet there is an issue with se phones. 2nd and 3rd generations because mine is 3rd generation. Thanks for the heads up that actually makes me feel better knowing im not the only one with odd issues. Theyre aware of my issue though I spoke to apple already many times

I went from 17.6.1 to 18 on my two M4 ipads with no issues. Just a reminder that sometimes, things just don't work out like they should and it could have easily been me.

Apple: Spend extra money so that if we screw up your device during an update, we will fix it for you without charging you even more money.
It’s like they’re running one big long boiling the frog into Stockholm syndrome experiment on the customer base

You pay for the device and then you need to pay for an extra warranty so that if they screw up the device you don’t have to pay them yet again

😵‍💫

Imagine not testing on your flagship devices 😂

This isn't what happened. People not in software dev have no idea that you can test until you're blue in the face and never reproduce a problem that happens when an end user gets it. Apple tested the crap of of these devices and most peoples update just fine (mine did, the dozens at work did).

Software testing isn't as cut and dry and many people think it is.

I can’t believe you can’t use DFU mode to restore. The only other Apple product I know that got bricked from a software update was the original HomePod. One of the betas improperly engaged the WiFi module and basically melted the logic board. This seems different.

Yes for sure. I know apple has told me we didnt get the beta version but something tells me otherwise. Just by how many glitches there are and how slow its been on my end. I mean my phone is NEW only bought in November 2023. It was fast before ios 18 now its slow.
