Where is your source that the devices were bricked "en masse." "En masse" means total, everyone. Some have obviously experienced an issue, but we in my family haven't had any problem with the update for our AW updates, just heard from two friends that they have had no problem, and just checked over on 9t05 where vast majority comments section had no problem either with the update, so it is conclusive that you are spreading fake news, which is sadly very prevalent all over the web these days. Please consider retracting your statement that this update bricked all devices, i.e., "en masse" when you have no idea what percentage were bricked, and we also conclusively know that you were spreading false info when you claimed that Apple Watches were bricked "en masse." Again, ideally no devices would have problems with an update, but similarly no postings should have fake news--neither of which is realistic these days. You can dislike Apple and freely state that opinion, but let's not resort to spreading false information.

To be fair "en masse" can simply refer to the total of a group. He didn't specify what group even if one could assume he meant all watches it's still just an assumption made much like that which you assume he has assumed. Haha. (J/K)

But truly if the problem were so minor then why not leave the update available to the public? It's an action that has traditionally been out of character for a company that prides itself on its quality and reliability.

And before you go off saying how I may be biased or have a beef with Apple. Let me just quell that fear by stating that I spent years in the Fotune 500 and Fortune 100 tech sectors working with CTOs and CIOs to convince them to adopt Apple "as a standard" and to make accommodations for mixed environments that include Apple hardware.

This was because the truth at the time was that Apple was universally more reliable and equally if not more effective at almost all relevant computing tasks for which they were designed than PC equivalents.

This has begun to change and it's frankly just sad to see...

Thing is people criticize the hardware (rightly so in some cases), no headphone jack, only 16 gb RAM, poor battery life but the software is where the rot has really set in.

Their software has got so bad these days you would have to be crazy to perform the update on day one. I work with xCode on a daily basis and it is an absolute bug ridden, crash prone mess. They just seem to shove any old garbage out of the door these days. These bricking incidents are a regular occurrence now.

There is no blaming this on somebody else this isn't down to Intel or Google Chrome being a resource hog this is purely a lack of testing and a lack of any kind of attention to detail.

I work every day with Xcode and I have to confirm. There are lot of small bugs, every time I work with Safari inspector on my webviews there is something wrong with it. Sometimes is frustrating to work on their platform, while I was very happy a few years ago.
Now when a new OS version comes out you have to be careful, sometimes I hesitate because I'm afraid the update will break something.

Quality assurance has gone downhill, they ought to do something about that

Not good. To Cease the update is nothing more than damage control. It's frustrating to think that I won't update any of my Apple devices upon the release any OS updates on day one anymore, because of fear that it will ruin my Apple hardware. It shouldn't be like this.

Someone at Apple is at fault for this mishap and needs to be reckoned with.
I'm sure he is getting a bollocking big time.

My watch 2 updated 100% like every other Apple product has and does. So what if their was a human mistake we are not all perfect like some of you make out you are.

I have already downloaded the update, but not yet applied. Does anybody know where I can delete it? (Doesn't appear on the iPhone under storage usage) Or should I just wait until the revised update is released and "overwrites" the other?

WTF is going on with Apple these days? They're messing up so many things. They can't get anything right on the first try anymore.

Cook, the captain of the ship, has hit an iceberg and he doesn't really care.
If he didn’t care they wouldn’t of been so quick with this. Hopfully they have a fix within next few days at least. It is disappointing to see as it shouldn’t happen but sorting the issue quickly is what they had no choice but to do. Maybe they tested this and it was fine. Mine certainly has had no issues so maybe they thought there was no problem.

If you haven't installed it i would just keep using the current version and wait for a new update just in case.

Wish they had the gold watches still ...now that would be a special experience

Sorry, it's just this kind of BS that made me get a Pixel. Dodgy software updates released and pulled, losing the headphone jack and not having a BT headphone accessory ready in time to go with it, not being able to plug an iPhone into a new MacBook because of USB-C-only ports, RIDICULOUSLY expensive new laptops... Makes me genuinely sad. I used to love being able to recommend Apple to friends - its products as well as the company. I'm not sure I can honestly do that any more. Love my Mac Mini and 11" Air - just not sure what I'm going to do when they die...

Apple are SOooooooooooooooooooooooo far behind Microsoft.

All they have to do is write stuff that runs on the incredibly limited range of hardware that THEY have designed.
I mean how much easier could you make it?

Microsoft has to write a OS that runs on anything from a thumbdrive PC, thru to workstations, gaming PC's
Millions of hardware combinations, motherboards, sound cards, graphics cards, Memory and storage devices, from 100's of hardware suppliers, assembled into many millions of different permutations.

Yet Microsoft still manage it.

Apple would have a heart attack even thinking about such a task! ;)

So this year Apple have managed to brick the iPhone, the iPad Pro and now the Apple Watch with their updates! Well done, I'm so very pleased to see and really really really admire the consistency in Apples failings, it's fantastic the ONE THING THEY ACTUALLY MAKE THEMSELVES consistently breaks their devices.....

They'll just need to brick all their computers now and the consistency will be complete.

No doubt people will be defending this though as per the norm...

But keep publishing your vanity design books and videos. Oh look, the video got published to YouTube today.

And can we talk about how buggy and slow the new TV app is?

Or how the new AirPods require Siri to control music, so you can't skip music on a subway or airplane or hiking, etc. And when you do have internet access, it'll take 5 seconds to skip a song because Siri is so slow and verbose, so have fun finding a track if you want to skip a bunch of songs all at once. You'll have to access Siri over and over again. Same goes for raise the volume 3 levels...you have to ask Siri 3 times.

Remember when Apple was the masters of understanding the experience around their products?
Remember when Apple didn't ship patently obvious buggy and unpolished products?

I fear we've reached Peak Apple. I guess the signs have been there for awhile. Apple maps was just the beginning.

Oh god, tell me this isn't true. That's worse than the button-less metal Shuffle, where joggers needed to change headphones on the run to skip songs.

Well Microsoft is not like Apple. Microsoft effectively has a monopoly on the desktop, 100% market penetration, with most businesses and consumers believe they have no choice but to choose Microsoft. So Microsoft can make many mistakes, make buggy OS's and products, and it's hardly a dent to them, people will still keep coming back because there is nowhere else to go. Apple, well, people choose Apple, and it has a tiny percentage of the market. It's is easier for most to walk away from Apple than it is to walk away from Microsoft. Apple management needs to understand this.

No you're right, Microsoft is most certainly NOT like Apple, they have NO WHERE near as much money OR as many resources as Apple has and they STILL do a better job with software and updates! now I would argue that Microsofts software runs on computers, but some of those computers are tablets and are priced the same as the iPad Pro...

so please, for anyone who bought apple stuff that is not available yet in your country. like a black market stuff, remember you dont have the apple support like people who bought them in a legal way and have apple stores in their country. so make sure never update your black market apple gadgets on day 1. just wait for 5-7 days or you'll be sorry like my friend did. his AW bricked after this update and there is nothing he can do now because AW hasn't been released here and no stores can fix that.

I hear ya. mine's still on 2.2.2 :)

What in Apple land this year has been bad? iPhone 7 launch. Apple Watch series 2 launch. Apple Music growth to 2nd most popular streaming service. And today they had preorders for AirPods and clearly a lot of people preordered them already.

Ok I'll bite. How about:

- iPhone 6 touch disease - Slow response and then charging people for repairs

- iPhone 6s battery problems, there are people who suffer from this that Apple claims there is no issue and must pay for a new battery

- MacBook Pro (Too many issues to list - funny how you didn't even mention this)

- No other mac updates

- Removal of headphone jack from iPhone 7 but can't offer customers a wireless alternative at launch

- General price increases across all products with no justification for these increases

- Software updates - Various updates across different devices have corrupted them

I'm sure there's others I've missed.

I plan to buy an apple watch while on vacation in the US and I'm fine with not having warranty if it breaks during use cause that chance is so tiny I'm willing to take it. But an apple issued software update breaking it, now that scares me.

100% is it? how many millions of times have I told you not to exaggerate?
