Im unsure if I'm right in assuming this, but if the US dollar is stronger then doesn't that mean apple would pay less to the Chinese to produce it since it's worth more in their money? Then in return they actually don't have to change the prices for the international markets and can even decrease it in the US? Maybe apple is paying them so little it doesn't matter anyway.

A lot of international business is priced in USD for reasons of price stability. Companies don't want their costs yo-yoing wildly because of unpredictable foreign currency. So I would not be at all surprised if Apple is paying Foxconn in USD.

Are you serious ? No Apple Stores in NZ ???

Yep, In Auckland there is a 3rd party reseller called Yoobee which has a sort of tried to copy the layout of the Apple store and everything else has to come from retail stores though you can buy online with the Apple website.
The website is convenient and everything but you don't get to hold the product in your hand and give it a look over and the 3rd party places don't always have the latest stuff to look at, like I'm considering a Magic Mouse 2 to replace my Magic Mouse but I kind of want to see it in person first.

Yep, gone up again in AU too. The 15 inch retina was 3,499 a week ago and is 3,799 now. I understand that sometimes you have to adjust prices and whatnot, but the thing that pisses me off is that they just wait for a huge dollar spike, raise the prices but then don't lower them again when things normalise. That's really, really ****.

In comparison, the same model in the US is 400 cheaper. Even cheaper (in the US) than it was BEFORE the (AU) price increase.

This is bad. Apple products have always been expensive, but now they are becoming downright luxury items.

Steve Jobs said once that the huge cash chest that Apple kept, was for crisis situations. This is one of them. If they keep the same prices , they can afford to take a hit on their margins and still be very profitable. Thats way, you keep your customers, while your competitors are forced to raise their prices ( and risk losing some of their customers), or not raise them and become unprofitable.

This is not a crisis by a long shot. Not for the customers and not for Apple. Even if Apple products becoming more expensive is a crisis for you, then there are ample opportunities to buy second hand or cheaper things.

Hello? If a substantial number of people will do that how is not going to impact Apple. It's not like people who buy Apple have more money. Many just don't like the alternatives.

It's unusual for Apple to change prices mid cycle, they usually only do it when something new is released.

I don't see protests about the prices worldwide and the reality is this forum is not going impact the prices at all. Reality is that they are a for profit company and therefore have to make a profit.

Apple: Let's make it even harder for people to afford our stuff!
Absolutely. It's not even $100, but a couple of hundreds. And it's a joke they think they can charge $1699 for the non-retina MBP that has 2012 components inside. Old specs don't usually appreciate in price Apple...

It's not their fault, if they don't increase the prices, then their products may become unprofitable.
Oh no! Where else will Apple get their next set of Billions of dollars if they don't overprice products in a couple of countries? They're so strapped for cash these days.

Well then no Apple products for me this year. They're already expensive enough.

PS I like how they're so quick to increase prices due to currency fluctuations but take ages to reduce price when the US dollar is weaker. Thanks.
I've said this before too. When the Aussie dollar was pretty much 1:1 with the USD a few years ago, prices here never were on par with US pricing - not even close to it. The second there's fluctuation in currency, Apple quickly like to mark up their prices here - even in the App Store. Do they pay taxes for online distribution? Let's see how quickly they lower prices when our dollar bounces up again.

How exactly can you do that by cutting the branch you are sitting on? Before these subpar upgrades Mac sales were already in decline. Not as bad as the industry, but still in decline. What do you think price increase will do to it?

Unbelievable! The Mac Pro, an outdated two year old computer with almost obsolete components, is getting more expensive. If anyone at Apple is reading this: Shame on you!

As someone who lives in New Zealand and loves Apple products it's quite frustrating to see news like this when we don't even get an Apple store and our iTunes selection isn't as good as other countries, I guess now that I've got Netflix I'm not as bothered about not having TV shows on iTunes but you can't get everything on New Zealand Netflix. Bizarrely one such show is House of Cards.

You have to determine when it is no longer a good, or the best, value for you. If it is not, then you look elsewhere.

It's only going to get worse, though.

I think Tim Cook changed his name to Tim CROOK recently as Apple moves more and more to simply eek out as much profit as they think they possibly can out of people and using sub-standard parts (5400 RPM drives in a $2700+ computer? Really?!?!?).

If Apple offers no value at all, I'm going to have to either go Hackintosh in the future or make my next machine a Windows 10 one. I've been buying most of my software on places like Steam these days so I get the Windows versions too and other software like Logic will still run on my old Macbook Pro for my needs there. Maybe I'd update the Macbook, but make my new desktop a Windows machine or Hackintosh. I simply cannot even find a machine I *LIKE* from Apple regardless of cost lately (NOTHING they sell at ANY PRICE has a really great consumer GPU in it these days), let alone the price of a "decent" iMac 5k with actual SSD drives, etc. An iMac should NOT cost more than a freaking Mac Pro! (even with a monitor, which I really don't need and the GPU in that thing can't really do 5K "well" anyway).

Now this is a risk for apple. If the USD strengtehns against its major trading partners, then apple products become more expensive. This all but removes apple from my budget as my salary doesnt change with the exahnge rate.

This is about Apple keeping their prices the same across different countries, which they have always done. It may hurt some people, but at least they don't play the game of different prices for different countries that most of the other hardware/software/media manufacturers do.

Meanwhile, with the UK Apple Store student discount and salary in the UK, apple products are really affordable :)

My sister was excited to get a new 27" Retina iMac but at more than $2400 with the smallest Fusion Drive she is going to pass. The U.S. dollar recovery is killing sales in other countries.

The price listed on the US site does not include 10% GST, so the prices are actually the same.
