Of all the Apple stuff I’ve bought over the years I never got Apple Care and I’m way further ahead as a result. The few times I’ve had to bring something in has cost me way less over 20+ years. Just take care of your stuff and you’ll be ahead without it.
Same, but my wife and one of my daughters….. they always get it. Their ability to destroy phone is really baffling.

Usually, these red background-white logo threads are about Netflix raising prices... then populated with 200-400 posts ranting, raving and swearing they are quitting Netflix immediately (but also for about the ninth time 🤪 ).

Here's a red background-white logo thread with Apple raising prices: I wonder* if the sentiment will be the same??? ;)

*I don't really wonder. Rhetorical question aiming for a giggle.

While 50 cents isn’t going to break the bank, we know this is easy money for Apple. Though I always get AC+ on my iPhone and Apple Watch, I always have credit in my Apple account via GC’s I receive throughout the year. But the simplicity of getting your device replaced under AC+ is the reason why I continue to keep it.

Maybe go without and ask them to be more kind to their devices and take a bit more care?

I've noticed we tend to value things more when they don't just get replaced over and over again with little to no repercussions

He may be buying it for his own safety: the wife & daughters may kill him if they don't get "the precious" replaced ASAP. ;)

Exactly this.
I have AppleCare + on both iPhone and Watch… because, well, accidents happen. It's not money I cry about.

But it is easy money for Apple, Inc. And I have to wonder what motivates this… they are not cash strapped. Sure they'll have to make up for the loss of that sweet, sweet Google cash, somehow, but 50c a pop?

I’m a big fan of AppleCare+ for the simplicity and peace of mind, but I’m a little bothered with this price increase. I have a few credit cards with insurance included. Has anyone had good/bad experience with their credit cards insurance that they can offer?
Never needed AppleCare for any of my Apple devices and I have been a customer for 30+ years. The one time I did use it my credit card insurance covered the screen repair 100%.

The cases I purchase for my iPhones and iPads and at times a screen protector all cost under $30 or less when I get a new iPhone. AppleCare is a complete ripoff and I don’t baby my devices either.

New times call for new methods to keep squeezing out growth

Expect more of this in the years ahead

More and more squeezing juice from the existing lemons
How does one expect another profitable financial quarter? Honestly most people don’t require AppleCare, many credit cards offer this insurance for free. It’s not like your Apple device that you are using daily is going up in value, I really don’t understand the logic behind this. It makes sense to have insurance on your house because it goes up in value it makes sense to have auto insurance so you are covered in the event of being sued but for an Apple device; nope.

I agree with you, but it seems that Apple has figured out they can just keep turning the screws on their customers and it keeps working!

I’m just curious as to how many people purchase AppleCare+? I’ve been using Apple products since 2007, and have never purchased Apple Care+. No issues with products either that weren’t resolved at no cost.

What motivates this? Cost of doing business.

My car insurance went up by something like $30 per month. I have not had a claim against it in well over 5 years.what motivated the insurance company to raise my premium? Cost of doing business.
For car insurance I get competitive quotes every year or 2. For AC+ I make a conscious decision whether I get it or not.

Just like all the streaming services, your insurance companies, your service department at your cars dealership, your grocery store and and and.
They all turn the screws on their customers for no reason…

Who's complaining about 50 cents?

I think they should raise it a lot more than this, as people will pay it!
I am. I've said it a million times that AC+ should be completely free on all devices as a way for Apple to give back to the people who have made it the giant that it is today but they are greedy beyond comprehension. So much so that governments have to actually step in to get them to EVER do the right thing.

when you put the operations people in charge, you will absolutely get ruthless, sterile efficiency- this is exactly what Apple has been for the past decade. Kudos to the behemoth Cook has built, but I can’t help but think that we’re now in an era where Apple looks more like the Microsoft of the early 2000s - a company that prioritizes rent seeking over innovation. The fact that they slept through the rise of Gen AI and had to scramble for over a year to try and catch is the first sign of a company too big to be nimble. It’s not a surprise why Jobs had to create the Mac team as a startup within the company to be successful - maybe that needs to come back.

The company is a shell of what it was 20 years ago and it's been sad to witness, especially over the past few years.

Been there for several years.
