The company is a shell of what it was 20 years ago and it's been sad to witness, especially over the past few years.
Yep ditched AppleTV for a GoogleTV many many years ago. Moving away from iPad to an Android tablet that happened this year, next on the list probably iPhone. I don’t even use my Mac much I only fire it up for updates as all the tasks I need to get completed can be done on a phone or tablet.

I’m a big fan of AppleCare+ for the simplicity and peace of mind, but I’m a little bothered with this price increase. I have a few credit cards with insurance included. Has anyone had good/bad experience with their credit cards insurance that they can offer?

IIRC, credit card protections aren't insurance as much as they are extended warranties. The advantage of AC+ is accidental damage and theft, which are not covered under the manufacturer or extended warranty. Some CCs may differ, read the fine print.

On the topic of extended warranties, I have used the extension my AmEx provides a few times and the process was 100% painless.

Happily, I am exactly the opposite. Enjoy being what Google is selling.

My MC was an extended warranty/included insurance with the card and it was 100% covered and painless. Other than making the trip to the Apple Store.

Why are people really complaining about 50 cents per month increase....??
Who's complaining about 50 cents?
That's how it starts. 50 cents one year, another 50 cents (or $1.00) increase another year. When you look back after a few years you'll notice that the price has doubled. See Netflix price increases as an example of what I mean.

Apple is being smarter about it by raising it by 50 cents. A lot of people will just be "Eh, 50 cents isn't that much" as you two have just demonstrated.

Apple is being smarter about it by raising it by just 50 cents. A lot of people will just be "Eh, 50 cents isn't that much" as you two have just demonstrated.

What a 💩 show! First the elimination of the one-time purchase in store and a price increase??!?! Whoever thought up this launch should be fired.

#otterboxdefenderFTW!

Edit: I don't mind the increase, as the cost of the devices increases, so do the repair costs. The optics of these two things back to back though... 💩 show! I haven't bought AC+ for a phone in a long while, I let the case do its work. All y'all nudists are the reason for the price increase! 😂

My wife just purchase a new iPhone in an Apple Store. She purchased the one time Apple Care?

First major Apple Care+ claim was a few months ago. The Apple Care was expiring in a week. 16" 2018 Intel Mac Book Pro slid off seat to the floor bending and cracking the screen. The $800 repair by replacement was only $100 for me and it was a new screen and assembly.

After the repairs it was given to a grandson as an operational computer running the latest MacOS and I extended the service another year.

The temperature of the heat for the water is increased by one degree every so often while the frog is sitting in the pot. Then it is too late to get out of the pot and we get stewed frog.
Terrible analogy, it’s not like the lid of the pot is shut tight. It’s open and it’s optional and tbh it’s not even needed for most customers it’s just some fear factor being used to sell a product/service.

Will the increase only affect new monthly subscriptions? My renewal still shows the usual $9.99 for my next billing date of March 4.

Is there a minimum term for the monthly subscription or can you cancel it at any time?

I am sick as all hell of all subscriptions, with software, streaming, everythng else. NO MORE!!!!
I'm fine with all of these. I subscribe to nearly everything. I don't have any interest in Disney. I rarely get AC as I can easily afford any repairs.

Accidental damage is usually only the first 60-90 days. So, that would probably be the biggest pitfall of relying on credit cards.

Anyone have an answer to this question, then:
  • Are 3-year AppleCare+ plans for other products, like Macs and the Apple Studio Display affected by this change? In other words, is Apple planning to abolish the 3-year AppleCare+ plans for their Macs and Apple Studio Display, for example?

Not sure about other but when I exercised this benefit it was under extended warranty so if Apple gave me 1 year then credit card extends another year and the insurance covers the damage during that period.

As I have written elsewhere, a few years ago I began opting not to go for AppleCare+ with most of my Apple device purchases because A) I have never used it and B) the cost trashes the value proposition.

Recently I have been buying AppleCare+ only on my iPhone because that’s the device I take everywhere. But next time around I’m pretty sure I will lower my risk by buying an iPhone SE and taking my chances.

If I lose or totally trash it (something I have never done with any of my phones) the replacement cost will be maybe $499 - not $799, $899 or $999.

So many here apparently have zero long term memory. The cost of both iPhones and AppleCare+ hasn’t changed in over 7 years and even decreased in a few cases. The iPhone X was $999 (for 64GB storage)…in 2017. You know how much an iPhone 16 Pro costs now? That same $999 with double the memory. The iPhone XS Max 256GB was $1249 (vs. $1199 today for 256GB 16 Pro Max) in 2018. You know how much AppleCare+ cost for an iPhone X in 2017? That same $199 that is available online today.

Apple hasn’t increased the prices of their iPhones in 7 years but you know what has decreased significantly? The buying power of the $. That same $999 in 2017 is equivalent to about $1280 today.

With the exception of iPad Pros, this is pretty much the case across all of their product lines. Original AirPods were $159 nine years ago—current 4th gen AirPods (without noise cancelation) are $129. The 2018 MacBook Air was $1199 yet the new M3 version is now $1099.

Sure I’d prefer to have all purchase options available everywhere but at least I still have the option to purchase the two year plan online. At the end of the day though, all of these purchases are optional. You don’t agree with Apple’s pricing, feel free vote with your wallet and look elsewhere.

See above comment. If they were keeping up with inflation all of their products and services would cost a lot more than they currently do.

This is only for new AppleCare+ plans starting today.

In Canada the prices haven’t changed… yet. I’m sure it’s coming, especially with how bad our dollar is right now. Oh well, I’m paid on my phone until January 2026. I’ve only used AppleCare on my phone once for a pretty bad scratch, might just opt for screen protectors instead of AppleCare in the future.
