We may soon see a 17.6.2 update to replace this one, perhaps with build 21G102 or higher, just to fix the version number so that everyone can see the update.
And I would laugh if they re-release build 21G101 but as version 17.6.2 as it should have been in the first place.

Then those who updated via finder+ipsw to 17.6.1 build 21G101 won't be able to get 17.6.2!

Apple today released an updated version of iOS 17.6.1, with the new software coming a week and a half after the launch of the original iOS 17.6.1 update. The new version has a build number of 21G101, up from 21G93.

iOS 17.6.1 can be downloaded on eligible iPhones and iPads over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple's release notes, the iOS 17.6.1 update addresses an issue that could prevent the enabling or disabling of Advanced Data Protection. It is not clear what is different between the new version of the software and the original version.

The Advanced Data Protection bug impacted a small number of users. Those who tried to turn Advanced Data Protection on and weren't able to get it enabled saw an error message and it was clear it wasn't active. Affected users who tried to turn it off saw it disabled in the interface, though it was actually still active for iCloud data.

Both of those bugs have been fixed in the update. iPhone users who had the bug that prevented Advanced Data Protection from properly turning off will see a notification that asks them to confirm the decision to turn the feature off after installing iOS 17.6.1. Apple says that the few users who experienced this bug had an expected level of security or more, in the situation where ADP did not turn off as expected.

Was it pulled? I saw it and 30 minutes later don’t see it anymore.

I very rarely use ipsws but when i do updating this way is like getting blood out of stone compared to the usual ota updates.

If apple expect everyone to update this way, all I will say to apple is welcome to reality land buddy. Very few people will get this update.

I have 3 devices on 17.6.1, iphone se 2, iphone se 3 and ipad pro 12.9" 4th gen and they are going to take several hours to get this update.

It's obviously a mistake

This is a pain.....

My iMazing did not see the update so I fired up my 2014 Mac mini. It's been a while since I updated a iPhone using Monterey and I had forgotten that you have to open up the music app and click on "sync settings" to invoke the iPhone update through finder...

now it is preparing....ug...

not sure.

i already updated my se 3 but am in now the process of updating my se 2 - and it is still downloading.

If it were pulled I would have expected the download to stop. But it didn't. Now I will see if the verification fails.

I have only one Mac that has a sealed system volume and SIP fully activated (2014 Mac mini) and did not feel "safe" using my other Macs that have been patched with OCLP (unsealed system volumes and partially activated SIP) ... ug

Why would they not call it 17.6.2? This is so stupid
Honestly? Probably because it's not a security issue, the number of people it inconveniences is very tiny, can be worked around in some manner, and would cost 10's of thousands of dollars in bandwidth alone to push the update out to every customer/iOS device.

well verification for the se 2 worked and it updated.

then i plugged in my ipad pro 12.9" 4th gen and the update showed up for that too so i don't think it has been pulled.

doesn't mean it won't be pulled though.

they clearly stuffed it up so it still might get pulled.

in the mean time i will proceed with the update for the ipad as tortuous as that may be.

Just FYI - I was able to successfully upgrade to 21G101 from 21G93 using Finder on Mac on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I'm not understanding the weird version numbering. I'm also still not seeing it as an available OTA update for my 15 Pro... maybe because I'm already on 17.6.1?

Regardless, if this was something critical, Apple would ensure it's available OTA, so I wouldn't waste my time using the Finder or iTunes to force a seemingly superfluous update that is not already offered through the standard method.

I did see it at 2pm and now I can’t see it.

I am not neither. I think it got pulled.
well i already updated 2 iphones and am now in the process of updating an ipad and it's still working, so I don't think it got pulled.

Why would it still be working if it got pulled?

because ota doesn't work for re-release if you are already on an older build of 17.6.1

Apple knows this, and they know the vast majority just do OTA updates as they come. If this is something critical, they'll fix it so everyone can update.

There must be a reason for this.

The vast majority of users are just doing OTA, so I'm sure Apple will sort it out at some point.
sorting it out means releasing 17.6.2 not re-release of 17.6.1 with higher build.

if and when they release 17.6.2 then you can do it ota.

Yes. You're making my point.

Most people who are already on 17.6.1 are never going to know about this new 17.6.1. If Apple wants everyone to get this update, they will have to sort it out so it comes OTA.
