a lesson to you all , NEVER BUY 1ST GENERATION APPLE PRODUCTS

as they haven't had enough real world testing and are too expensive with things missing that are later added by Apple (such as 3G to the iphone, sd card slot to macbooks/imacs, ios 4 to ipad, a working antenna to the iphone 4, blu -ray(?) and now a camera to the ipad).

Wait until 2nd Generation and look in amusement at the cool kids/wanna-be celebs lay down their rent money for the Apple product of the month.

The SD card reader didn't come to the 2nd generation MacBooks, it came way, way after the first generation.
iOS 4 and all of its features are coming to the first generation iPad soon.
The iPhone 4 is not the first generation iPhone, but the 4th generation (as its name suggests) and it has a working antenna.
Blu-Ray is never coming to the Mac as far as we can tell, and we're way beyond the 2nd generation of Macs.

So no, your argument of "never buy first generation Apple products" is entirely false. The next generation is always better than the previous generation. Every time you buy something, the following generation will be better. So maybe we should never buy anything? This is true for cars, electronics, software, and anything else.

It is true. I recommend the Blue YETI mic with a CCK, it works great on the apps that support it! Multitrack DAW does.

Cool - thanks for sharing that! One reviewer had even a USB mixer to input as well for more channel (pre-mixed of course) possibilities.

A ProTools iPad app can only be a few years away :D

Edit: Oops, I mean "A Logic iPad app..." of course ;)

I think apple will phase out iPod shuffle and replace it with iPod Nano product name.
Then bring back iPod Mini and here is a mock-up of it.

I personally believe they didn't want to introduce a longer version of ipod Nano because to maximize the sales of the current iPod nano 5G and the new 6G. Then bring out iPod mini in 2011 to have people upgrade from iPod Nano to iPod Mini.

This is OT, but I don't think it had anything to do with "maximizing sales." A nano with that large touchscreen and the video camera from last year would be too expensive at the current nano price points. Eventually, I think they will make the current nano the shuffle for $79, and a nano similar to that mockup for $149. But I think it will be a few years.

Not to AAPL shareholders.

Thank you for your support.

:) ;) :D

It's actually really sad. Back when I was young and bought my first iBook G3 back when I had $80,000 waiting for college thanks to my very thoughtful parents, I was going to invest it ALL in Apple.

...And I ****ing should have.

It's never a mistake to buy Gen 1 Apple products because you have to HAVE BOTH GENERATIONS. 1st and 2nd. Can't miss a beat. Acquire 2nd gen, then sell first, take the hit, and move on. Seamless transition.

You're in it hardcore, or you're missing out.

:D

Is this really a rumor? Everyone kinda knows they'll end up doing this right?
The rumor component is the timing.

iDevices have been on a 12-month release cycle (more or less). That's easier for Apple as they have a simpler roadmap and development timeline. However, it's not a competitive advantage as other companies can predict when Apple will release new versions of their devices.

If Apple altered their release schedule, they would put more pressure on the competition. Sometimes predictability isn't beneficial.

That's really the newsworthy/rumor-worthy part, not the fact that they're going to release FaceTime-capable iPads someday. Everyone pretty much expects that.

I won't. Video chatting is fun the first 2 minutes. Then it gets to the point you don't even look at the video feed. Then you realise it's futile and just use audio.

Been there, done that, never saw much use in it.

Actually I understand what you are saying about video chatting. I get into a session and feel pressure to talk when perhaps there isn't much to say.

However, I have found a way to use it that works for me. Lets say you want to chat with family a distance away but you don't want to get into a back and forth dialog? Set up the chat and say hi. Then both parties go about their business cleaning the house, cooking dinner or whatever. After a while the feeling of a "chat" goes away and you feel like they are in the sam room with you.

We did this one Yule day. 2000 miles apart. One group had already ate dinner and sat in the living room with the computer looking in from the kitchen. The other group cooking in the kitchen with the computer looking in from the living room. Every so often you would hear discussion from the other group and jump into the conversation. It was like everyone was in the same room.

We did use the video though. At times of discussion we would use the video without thought and point the camera at certain people or objects. The video simply wasn't monitored constantly.

I think over time the video chat will evolve from being a simple phone call with video to a more passive way of spending time together where the two parties only look at the screen for brief moments during the chat.

The lack of a camera was the primary reason I didn't jump for an iPad when they came out initially.

If they'd have had a camera from the get-go I'm sure they never would have caught up with demand. "Very wise, them Jobians."

planned obsolescence. how many on this thread alone have said they'd replace current model for camera one? playing right into apple's hands (pocketbook).

Nonsense.
I've been thrilled with my iPad and will have gotten a great year's use from it before you laggards even get your first one. Nothing rumored to be on gen 2 even interests me.
BTW doesn't your logic dictate that you then wait for gen 3, since that will be even better?

Hardware Connection to the Back

While they're at it, I suggest they put a recessed hardware connection on the back of the thing to allow it to be attached to a stand or pivotable arm. Jonathan Ives may need to make the backing a bit thicker to accomplish this, but the minor increase in weight would appear to be well worth it.

So I assume you're still working on a Commodore 64?
It's a fast moving world... Get used to it.

Am I in the few?

I honestly do not care about Facetime on the iPad. I guess it's the way I hold it, nor do I want a dock station for mine, I have 2 MPB, iMac, and iPhone 4 for Facetime. Plus I never use Facetime on my phone, I have done a few Skype sessions via MBP. I can however see why others would like it, this is simply my use.
A camera on the iPad would feel so strange. Now a hook up maybe cool, with a long wire may work for me. When I first got my iPad I tried to see how it would feel with a camera and it jut felt akward. Again this is IMO or course. I do see the why people want everything they want in an iPad.
Now retina display would be cool, but I have to admit the iPad is pretty clear to me. I'm not saying it wouldn't look better with retina, I just think it looks nice already with text. Of course better is simply always better.
Ram. No brainer, more Ram in any device is good.

So will I feel bad for buying my first gen iPad, no, at least with these simple features. Now if they add in a lot more then it's a different story. Again all is my opinion. Everyone has their own use for their products.

Getting a first gen product on the day it's released is such a great feeling. All these winging fools that say "no, no, wait til 2nd gen when they have ironed out the problems and added this or that" never get that feeling and excitement, you only get stuff when its old news and all the early adopters have had them for ages. Fail.

Dude...that's the way the apple idiots make lots of money....alle the time the same ****. Do you think they were not able to integrate that already into the current ipad? They know exactly that there are enough stupid people who will buy a new and second ipad in 2011 just because of some small changes what they could have done already now. As long as there are enough idiots, they will continue with this ripoff business model.

You're not from here, are you ( this planet, I mean)?

Why, does it need more?
Quite a few people have commented (in every single thread about iPads) that Safari crashes with multiple tabs open. These are some of the people who believe that more memory would be beneficial.

Are they lying? Probably not. There's likely a grain of truth to these comments.

There are other people with a variety of reasons why the iPad should have more memory. I will leave it to you to read those comments and rate their credibility on your own. There are probably a few more legitimate arguments for more iPad RAM.
