Last night I was having the same problem as others. Laptop serial accepted, battery rejected. I'm American, but just moved to the UK. I thought I was really screwed.

But, I just tried again and it accepted both. Order placed and have already received my confirmation number.

Poor Battery Exchange Service in HK

In US, people get free shipping for their new batteries.

In Hong Kong, we have to visit the service providers in person TWICE! First we have to go there and give up our old battery for registration. Then we have to wait for at least 10 days and visit the service providers AGAIN to get the new battery.

It's simply poor service from Apple!

my update

Last night, I had posted a comment here that my battery was clearly on the list and was coming up as invalid. This morning, I got to the Apple website and plugged my serial numbers in and everything was accepted and went smoothly and worked for me. Already got my confirmation email.

So, things obviously got fixed on the Apple end, atleast as far as I am concerned.

New Battery!!

I also had problems on the website earlier last night, but when I tried it about midnight it worked fine. I am so happy, since my battery charge was down to about 50 min and I was bracing myself to buy a new battery anyways. :)

BBC seem to bad mouth Apple at any opportunity. They can't even be bothered to make sure photos are the right way round...

I entirely agree with you.

There is definatly some anti-apple going on in the BBC. I found out about the dell explosions on a side tab under technology, but then i go on technology and see 'breaking news' with a special graphic about apples much smaller and controlled problem.

It's beginning to get to me!

OK, here's another dumb question.

Is the battery serial number just the first five digits, or the whole string?

(The example pictures show just the first five numbers highlighted.)

The site is not totally fixed yet.

I also was experiencing the problem where my iBook serial number was accepted but not the battery. However, this problem still exists!

My battery serial number starts with 6C536 which is clearly in the range posted, but was added at the last minute ( some previous posts did not include this serial number range ).

So it is encouraging that things are getting updated, but they are not done yet!

Woohoo!! I'm getting a new battery too! Hurrah!!

Only problem is I now live in Japan and the site for Japanese orders is, well, all in Japanese. Time to get some of my friends here to help me. :)

Same problem here. Mine is a 6C534 (12 inch iBook) and it's still not validating. I'm on hold with Apple support now, although I'm not encouraged by the message telling me apple support can't help with the battery exchange program and to go to the website, and the website telling me to call Apple support....

This is a load of ****.

Bloody hell, I saw this on MR when it first appeared, but for some reason I didn't connect it with the 15" PowerBook I was sitting there surfing with....duh.

I really don't want to stop using my PowerBook for the next 4-6 weeks though...damn and blast.

Well, I just put in my serial numbers and it went through fine. Now the wait.

I hope they sort out the problems that other folks are having getting their serials to validate...it's no fun typing on a grenade.

Do you use your battery a lot? I have a 2 year old iBook G4 1Ghz and my charge is still great. I can still get 5-6 hours out if it and I use it daily and quite extensively.
It's probably because I use it at school and some days I have 30% left and some days I have 89% left and I always plug it in as soon as I get home. I can still get over 5 hours though

Well, I just spent 20 minutes on hold with Apple support, only to be disconnected with no warning. After going through Dell's battery recall program with my office laptop, I can honestly say that Dell support kicks the crap out of Apple's.

Sheesh, the BBC suck up to Apple all the time. Get it right.

Sky News is the 'chav' of news channels, all bling and hype, no honest substance or impartiality.

This is very true, although I’m not sure that chav is enough a word to describe Skynews. The reports you hear on BBC have at least some relevance to reality. I wish I could say the same about sky.

Their take on the Lebanese-Israeli conflict is the most recent example.

They're both a disgrace...

I know. Come on Apple, there are English speakers in Japan as well.

Looks like I'm not getting a replacement battery. My machine was a refurb and I received it just after the other battery recall. It's good that I'm not without a battery but it would be nice to have a fresher replacement.

Just wanted to check (although you've probably both already tried) that this link doesn't work for you?

https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/

You can select Japan from the drop down menu, but I don't know if the next page is in Japanese or not.

Edit: Ignore me, no, it doesn't, i just tried it with a made up number and it forced me select Japanese as the language. That sucks. :(

I've been trying to figure that out for a while. I'm on my third hold cycle and hoping that I don't get randomly disconnected again. I tired calling the retail Apple Store where I bought my iBook just to see if they'd heard anything, and they hadn't (first actual Apple-person I've been able to get ahold of, though). God forbid anyone has a REAL technical problem right now, Apple Support in general is totally shot.

Coconut Battery?

My order for a replacement has been placed. I installed coconut battery to see just how bad my old one is and it says 38% of original charge. This seems about right, but does anyone know just how accurate this program is supposed to be?
