You'd think, right? And yet here we are with a keyboard with the tactile feedback of a piece of wood and which the official recommendation is to blow into with canned air to keep it from failing.

I'll wait for a better keyboard, myself, that has actual decent key travel -- or just keep running older Mac laptops until I can't anymore and then start looking at alternatives.
It seems like several issues are being conflated here. Key travel is a personal preference. I prefer deep key travel. That doesn’t mean keyboards that are more shallow are defective. There are laptops as thin or thinner than the MBP that don’t appear to have the same issues so it’s hard to say that key travel is the reason for the Mac keyboard issues.

Any Product Category is a model number,( not Spec Bump ). So MacBook Air , Macbook Retina, Macbook Non Retain, MacBook Pro 13, MacBook Pro 13 Escape, And MacBook Pro 15 each has its own Model number.

And Spec bump or minor Hardware update don't increase model number either. For example the newest MacBook Pro, with updated Keyboard had the same model number as last year.
weird they only have 5 models by this nomenclature currently - MB; MBA (I'm not counting the old one as it's weird in the extreme to update that now?); MBP nTB; MBP 13; MBP 15. So the remaining 2 either a 16 and 14" Pro that will be a separate line to the current Pros, or there's ARM variants of some of them that have their own model number?

Can’t wait to see their Apple (not Intel) powered MacBook next year. It will probably be faster than current MacBook Pros at some things.

The last design change was in december with reveal in october i think so could be same this year.

Companies dont just give out extended warranty programs to take care of people, I promise you. They didn't make a serious redesign in the latest because they didn't really care enough to spend the money on R&D and figured hey we can just use the same design and save us more money. Apple won't in the foreseeable go away from the butterfly keyboard, not because its a good design, but because they would then have to admit they were wrong and messed up. What they WILL do is keep it for a couple more years and eventually change it saying they came up with a new design courageously more awesome than the butterfly keyboard and implement it while also denying a problem with the Butter fly keyboard, saying the were just not as magical anymore.
Yeah, they are taking care of the issues with the warranty program. I'm sure there are some issues with 18M Macs sold every year. If it were a huge issue/design plan, that wouldn't be sufficient and they'd have to re-design.

Companies do everything from a business perspective. You're not breaking news. Apple is interested (from a business perspective) in keeping customers happy and loyal.

Yep, that is why it is exciting. Keeping in mind they just updated MacBook Pro.

All seven models appear to be notebooks, as they are described as "portable" computers.

To be fair, the upcoming Mac Pro has stainless steel handles and wheels.

OK. Tell that to the dedicated extended warranty program that covers all of them.

I don't understand at all how the existence of a free extended warranty is a bad thing. If Honda called me up and said, "Hey, we heard there are some issues with the steering system in the model you have. Your car isn't affected yet, but it might be at some point after your current basic warranty runs out. So we're going to extend the warranty on the steering system in your car for an additional 2 years for free," I would be quite happy. Extended warranty is a good thing!

After last years October refresh with Vega GPUs, I knew it was smart for users to start waiting until the end of the year to upgrade or purchase. This also points to a sign Apple is really focused on the Mac again. In fact, I would say this is the year of the Mac at Apple. Just hope it remains consistent. The thing is, with rumors of A-Series chips for Mac on the horizon, I want to see how that plays out.

2020 is gonna be a big year for transitions. It will mark 20 years since Steve Jobs previewed OS X with Aqua and 15 years since the Intel transition.

I don’t think the 16 inch will be the only differentiator, its likely Apple will finally introduce Face ID as an exclusive on this SKU before bringing it to the rest of the line up next year. Expect to pay significantly for the privilege. Starting price is likely $2,999 to $3,299.

I personally have decided to wait until 2021 for any Mac and iOS device upgrades. Currently struggling with my 2015 a bit, but might get a Windows notebook as a stopgap until then.

Oh wow, some links...

No one said there weren't some cases with the butterfly keyboards. Until you have failure rates, you're just posting 15 anecdotal stories.

Apple sold 18M Macs in 2018. If there were a design flaw, you couldn't stop the tsunami of unhappy customers and a repair program wouldn't be sufficient. You also would have seen a major redesign, which you didn't.

Again, not impressed. I don't look at random articles. I watch what Apple does. Apple is acting like it's not a major issue because it isn't.

Yeah, because launching a new product that is immediately part of a global repair programme is clearly a sign of things going well.

</s>
It also doesn't mean there is some huge issue. It just means they are taking care of the unknown number that do have the issue. Any significant amount would have resulted in a complete redesign, period. Stop acting like you have failure rates.

Keep telling yourself that buddy.
Post 1 non-anecdotal fact and I'll take you seriously.

I think it's possible that new Pros could be on the way despite the 2019 update. To me it seemed like an "emergency" update that they had to push out whether a redesign is near or not.

Why though, they had no problem with waiting four years to update before.

Yes, I do. Business is all about results. Cook has delivered, better than Jobs even. Services, silicon, wearables, tremendous iPhone growth, record everything are all a result of Cook. Tim Cook is a genius and Jobs knew that. That’s why Jobs handed the reigns to Cook.

You don’t know the numbers. Cook has a job because he’s doing well. He stops performing and the shareholders will speak loudly.

Business isn’t as simple as just “riding on reputation.” Apple is in an ultra competitive business that Tim Cook has navigated brilliantly.

After reading this I can not take you seriously anymore...

Butterfly keyboards aren't going anywhere because they aren't nearly the problem believed here in the echo chamber.

Absolutely spot on. I can confirm having sold hundreds of them and only having one issue with a version 1.

People actually liked those models, and they weren't plagued with various issues...

Apple's release schedules change all the time.

2 thing

1. Apple will have to be leinient on returns of the numerous disgruntled "Pros" that just purchased a shiny new 2019 less than a month ago - IF they release within he next couple weeks..

2. Let not get ahead of ourselves apple registered the iPhone 11 model numbers last month and those wont be out for another few months

>> Eurasian Economic Commission filings

How many months after these files are Apple products typically released?

as I just commented.. sometimes weeks but often times months.. for examples the iphones had their model numbers confirmed last month and we all know when those will come out.

Good point.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just throw these updates in with the iPhone refresh or in a separate October event prior to holiday sales.

Why Apple stopped making 17-inch MacBook Pro and start making 16-inch instead?

16 inches is too small.

That's what she said.

18 inches would be great with a 5k display. The 17 inch LG Gram weighs under three pounds. I'm fine with a five pound laptop so go for the 18 inch mark.

Hopefully it's a refresh of the 13" MBP without Touch Bar. The current non-MBP has not been updated for the past 18 months, the MBPs with Touch Bar are too expensive, and the current MBA is a downgrade in terms of screen and CPU speed.

Those are discontinued. Apple is just selling off the stock on the shelves.

Predictions:

Macbook Air moniker goes away, leaving simply Macbook and Macbook Pro.

Macbook starts at $999 and includes a 15" option. No Touchbar. Configurable up to $3.5k.

Macbook Pro is an overhaul (like the Mac Pro) in response to criticisms that Apple neglects "true professionals." One screen size, includes Touchbar, ports besides USB-C. Prices start at $4k and can go over $10k.

Thoughts?

This sounds insanely accurate.
