My guess is that they update the MBP line with a bigger changes:
4k display
faceID
better display panel to appeal to actual PRO market
brighter touch bar - maybe
maybe some gpu weird configs??

Macbook needs update
MBP non Touchbar will get update
MB Air will get some updates...

We will see... I just bought a 2018 MBP 15 inch but it's enough for me... I wish I could be rich and afford the latest and greatest but in the end .... for what purpose? :)

By the way, I love butterfly keyboard and I also love the keyboard on the iPad pro Folio... I keep everything clean always since these are darn expensive machines...

How long does it usually take from registration to release date? A few months? A year?

Not 'year'. Months. Four other examples.

2019 iPads ( approx. January ---> March so 2 months. )
https://www.macrumors.com/2019/01/25/eurasian-filings-five-new-ipads/

2019 iPhones ( approx May ---> probably September so 4 months. )
https://www.macrumors.com/2019/05/23/apple-registers-eleven-new-iphone-models-eec/

2018 iPhones ( April ---> September so 5 months )
https://www.macrumors.com/2018/04/18/apple-registers-new-iphone-models-eurasia/

2018 Watch ( August ---> September so 1 month )
https://www.macrumors.com/2018/08/20/apple-watch-series-4-eec-filings/

The phones probably have carrier testing and other radio frequency regulation to go through so need model numbers coordination through more regulatory processes. ( not sure when LTE watch rolled out in those countries versus USA. If longer rollout then lead with iPhones may be about the same. )

It is June so 2-3 months is August-September. With macOS coming out at the end of September that doesn't make much sense. October would be a likely candidate. But, can't completely rule out August. With the "chaos' of getting a new macOS finalized and out the door, I don't think is going to be before they mostly wrap that up.

There is a pretty good chance that some of this is a MacBook update as Intel has "soft launched' the 10th generation Y-series. They have talked about them but haven't had a formal intro yet (and not in the ark.intel.com parts database). They are hard to make so volumes are constrained. Apple could wait until that has uncorked a bit to go ... hence October. Also by October the MacBook Air Retina will be a year old and also suitable to also get one of the higher TDP 10th generation options. Then in a 13" and 16" version of a revised enclosure and that could cover all of these model numbers.

Considering that the OS listed is 10.14, could that indicate that these devices are going to be released before the end of September when new macOS versions usually are available?

Predictions:

Macbook Air moniker goes away, leaving simply Macbook and Macbook Pro.

Macbook starts at $999 and includes a 15" option. No Touchbar. Configurable up to $3.5k.

Macbook Pro is an overhaul (like the Mac Pro) in response to criticisms that Apple neglects "true professionals." One screen size, includes Touchbar, ports besides USB-C. Prices start at $4k and can go over $10k.

Thoughts?

Nope!

The current MacBook Pro's are a mid-level system between the MacBook And the older MacBook Pro's. This is a market that was not buying the newer MacBook's as they saw them as too low end (which they where).

Sadly, the more advanced amateurs and mobile pro's where left in the winds. The retina MacBook Pro systems where too limiting! Compared to the older MacBook Pro Unibody 2012 and older which offered serviceable RAM & Storage.

While Apple did put some effort into increasing the RAM & Storage in the later models, RAM was soldered and the single custom flash drive which Apple wouldn't upgrade after purchase (you had to go with 3rd parties). And dual drive support was just not possible!

A Pro's Pro is desperately needed! Offering a less constrained CPU thermally, Serviceable RAM and Storage, And bringing back USB-A ports (x2) and still offer the four USB-C ports. Modify the back two USB-C (L&R) ports so a MagSafe adapter plug can be flush mounted so we get MagSafe back! Onboard Ethernet and SD slot. Pro's don't want dongles or clip on hubs! And they get lost too!

The New Mac Pro is a sign Apple is starting to swing the pendulum back to Function over Form! Now we need a mobile system to go with it! The 16/17" model I suspect is the one! I hope so.

That mock up is cool. It looks like the inch gained is simply from bezel reduction, and the same footprint of the 15” is retained.

Last time this happened was exactly one week before the release of new MacBooks.

Well, the latest iPads were two months after they showed up in that database, the iPhone 11 is already there, so will be 4 months early. This basically shows sometime this fall they will be released.

That is not entirely Intel's fault, Apple decided against active cooling in 2018 MBAR, the CPU would throttle when ever you are pushing it hard for more than a few minutes.
Right. I think the Apple argument would be something along the lines of this CPU heats up way too much for the power it is providing. You shouldn’t need active cooling for a machine in this class. And, these chips are very, very behind schedule.

You'd think, right? And yet here we are with a keyboard with the tactile feedback of a piece of wood and which the official recommendation is to blow into with canned air to keep it from failing.

I'll wait for a better keyboard, myself, that has actual decent key travel -- or just keep running older Mac laptops until I can't anymore and then start looking at alternatives.

I much prefer the new keyboard. I hope Apple sticks with it long term

The numbers indicate a breakdown of five different products with two extra siblings mixed in.

A2141/7 - MacBook Good/Better or Intel/A-series?
A2158/9 - MacBook Air Good/Better?
A2179 - 13" MacBook Escape?
A2182 - 13" MacBook Pro?
A2251 - 16" MacBook Pro?

Maybe

A2141/7 MacBook function keys / touchbar
A2158/9 MacBook Air Retina function keys / touchbar
A2179 MacBook Pro "escape" function keys (and 4th generation keyboard )
A2182 next generation case 13" MacBook Pro
A2251 next generation case 16" MacBook Pro

the rumored 16" MBP is suppose to have some very upscale srceeen so like the new Mac Pro probably up into a new "unobtainable' zone for the vast majority. a 13" version that only used the touchbar for the function keys and kept a physical escape key could work ( would be a slightly different touch bar presentation ). Or "next generation" could just be more of a desktop replacement case ( i.e. retreat back to 2013-2015 thickness (and perhaps back to so-DIMMs) ... not huge but perhaps add a half pound or so to the system since some folks primary just use laptops statically sitting on a work/home desktop most of the time. )

If you actually care about CPU power, the MBA is not the right product for you. Don't count on it getting a monstrous speed boost from bump to bump. The priority would be improved battery life or cooler running, with a modest performance boost at best if the chip allows.
I care about cpu power regardless of the machine. I am not in an upgrade cycle anyhow, I’m just hopeful it increases a decent amount. Better cooling would mean better overall performance though.

PSA: Please refrain from turning this thread into a wish fulfillment checklist for the next MacBook Pro. We get it, you hate the current Touch Bar MacBook Pro and want to see it vanish, but you are going to be waiting a while. Thanks!

EDIT: Besides, the most likely candidates for refresh are the 12" MacBook, the 13" MacBook Air and the 13" nTB MacBook Pro, as Intel is prioritizing 9w and 15w U-Series Ice Lake CPUs for the upcoming holiday season.

Hope not,if they retain the same footprint it means same air flows/thermal limitations

They won’t kill the Air name. It’s too well-loved, and if they were gonna do it, the time was last year (just call the 2018 air a 13” MacBook).

Can’t see the MacBook starting at $1,000. Apple’s prices are all going up, not down. I think they’re done with the days of the $1,000 laptop. Hope I’m wrong.

MacBook Pro was JUST updated. Still has “new” badges on apple’s site.

The "Pro Team" predates the current macbook pro design which is why it's one of the worst apple products. The moron who was incharge of the trashcan mac pro was also in charge of the macbook pro. He is now gone... I'm looking forward to seeing how they can make it better with the 16". I had a 2013 and now a 2016 mbp and desperately looking to upgrade but won't do so until they redesign it. I'll beat a dead horse here and say I want better cooling and keyboard. USBC doesn't bother me.
"The moron who was incharge of the trashcan mac pro was also in charge of the macbook pro. He is now gone"

how do you know?

Kind of true, because I am pretty sure Apple had Icelake in mind when it was designing MacBook Air Retina, and its next upgrade would be an Intel 7nm in 2020.... which is all falling behind schedule by at least 2 years.

I start to associate that guy who presented the imac
Pro and mac pro with better macs. So i hope he will present/introduce the next design mbp16” next year or in the fall

Maybe the arm macbooks ?

I really don't see ARM in the line up. While there are a lot of people looking for it there are a lot of reasons its not in the cards. As good as the A series chips are they aren't like general purpose CPU's like AMD or Intel chips.

I do see the possibility of seeing AMD Ryzen! Given the ID numbers are so different from older models I'm wondering if that maybe what Apple is up to. Or maybe its FaceID or even version of Mini LED based display (like the new Mac Pro XDR display)
