I haven't owned an iPad since the iPad 2. (owned 1st and 2nd Gen) and have held off since due to lack of use, functionality etc. iOS has come a long way since then as has the design....ProMotion almost sold me with the current sen iPad Pro, but I'm glad I waited this long. This new update sounds like it may finally be the viable update I need to make the iPad a worthy companion device.

i hope there is a new design to the Smart Keyboard that allows for more positions so that it allows the iPad Pro to be viewable at more freely chosen angles.
specifically, i would actually like to see a kind of Smart Keyboard that is positionable so that the iPad is somehow able to viewed at an acute angle (less than 90˚).

Looking forward to possibly upgrading my 9.7 Pro, if the price permits. But I think we’re looking at a mid-November release, not October.

I am not sure if you are being serious or not. The new iPad Pro's will have Face ID work while in landscape. I am just saying the process of using Face ID should not be any different to the user. Look at it and it unlocks. Hope that clears things up for you.

No, but obviously if you cover up the sensors, it won't work. There is already proof in 12.1 that Face ID will work in landscape, so that's a done deal. Apple wouldn't release a device that is primarily used in landscape without Face ID working in that orientation.
Your original post reads the following:

What do you mean? It will unlock like it does today, as long as your hand isn't covering it. It just won't work upside down.
[doublepost=1539279036][/doublepost]Can't wait for this. An all screen experience of this size will be really really nice. Face ID has been perfect on my Max so I am expecting similar performance here. Should be a nice upgrade from my 10.5, which was the best Apple computer I've ever used.
From reading that, I got the impression that you have a device that unlocks in landscape orientation today.

I want to say I feel like they will have worked out the FaceID placement on the iPP. I'm not brimming with confidence. But I'm eagerly awaiting this device!

Really doubt they have usb-c when none of the latest iPhones including the one yet to be released (Xr) have it. Who wants to have separate/different cables to charge their latest iOS devices?

Eh I don’t know. It’ll be a fast charger, you plug it in once and that’s where you charge your iPad. I don’t see it as a huge deal, although definitely a strange decision. The benefits outweigh that aspect to me.

Because of what it can do for 4KHDR...they are marketing this as laptop type replacements after all. I'm sure USB type C will come on phones next year

Don't see carrying more cables around as an issue when i'm sure other carry around spares. I know I carry two spare lightening and one in the car.

What is PWM?
Pulse wave modulation. Its used in OLED to dim the displays by pulsing several times per second. Most are in the thousands, iPhone XS is only about 200 and it results in headaches for some people who are sensitive to it. I wanted the XS so bad but had to return it after a few days. Never had this issue with any other display!
[doublepost=1539315067][/doublepost]
has there been any research into why some people have this problem? I would think that Apple would have something to say about this if it is a big problem like some say.
Its not getting much coverage. There are a lot of people in Macrumors forums with the issue but it appears to be a small minority of users. I never had this issue with any other display though and only realized it after experiencing the eye strain and headaches. So disappointing because I really want the XS

Please Apple, please "one more thing": iPad Mini 5.

If it's about profit margin, just charge enough for it to make it as profitable per unit sold.

The only way I see them doing a Mini 5 is if they do it as a smaller version of the ipad 2018. Which wouldn’t be a bad thing
[doublepost=1539320301][/doublepost]
Hopefully the screen does not use PWM like iPhone XS which makes it unusable to a lot of people!

Define “a lot” because everything I have found about this issue makes it sound like it’s actually very rare

Or Apple cracked the riddle and there is no ‘upside down’

. Bluetooth mouse support would be awesome.

There will never be mouse support. It’s a touch tablet not a Surface. As for the productivity part, many folks are very productive on the existing iPads. The issue is more in what you are trying to do with it.

What makes so sure when most reports claimed otherwise.

USB C is coming, you're either in or out.

The money apple makes from MFI

Don’t see them giving That up for a better standard . There is a reason apples biggest cashcow in my opinion uses a proprietary standard and will continue to. I just spent £30 on a usb-C to lightning cable ......

Hope so. Same hardware as current entry level iPad with a smaller display. As long as it gets a good software support I'm fine with it not having the latest and greatest

Tablets need bezels. This stupid all-display trend inspired by crappy sci-fi movies where flashy devices are for show is ruining mobile devices. The fact that dumb Hollywood writers are dictating design is so depressing and so funny at the same time.

While true, lack of mouse support makes using an external display much harder to use. Depends on use case of course.

It is a shame that mouse support won’t be adopted, it would open the iPad to a lot more people. A laptop isn’t easier to carry than a tiny mouse for those times you need to do something while travelling, especially if you already have the iPad with you.

For now I’ll continue to use the jump app with my Bluetooth mouse, it’s not as good as it could be if it was supported system side, but it’s good enough.

I don’t really see why Apple needs to make it so complicated - how hard would it be to add in mouse driver support and allow third party app developers to implement it if they so choose. Kind of the same rule the Apple TV once had where games needed to be playable with the remote limitation - same could be done here for touch.

I also love that form factor, but I fear it's getting cannibalized by the gigantic phones they're making now.

Aka, just slap a "Pro" into the name ;)

Or add voice and call it the iPhoneXDoubleMax++ :p

You joke, but honestly what is the real difference between an LTE-enabled iPad and a big iPhone? Unless I'm missing something, they both have similar (the same?) radios, GPS, both use SIM cards... the only difference seems to be you can't assign a phone number to an iPad for some reason.

I doubt it (cannibalization by phablets)- very different things with very different costs. MAX is much more expensive (one time and then ongoing) and, while the screen size number seems not so far apart, go take a good look at the two side-by-side. It's very much apples to oranges.

IMO, it's about profit per unit sold. So I wonder why Apple doesn't just raise the price like they do with iPhone to make the mini as profitable as bigger iPads? I'm still ready to buy... or ready to buy a fresh battery to put in the existing one and keep it going as long as possible. No interest in the MAX "alternative" and little interest in a bigger-screen-size iPad either. IMO: Mini got it "just right" apparently illustrated by still being about 20% of iPad sales in spite of the hardware being pretty old now.
