I bought a 2016 15" MBP and lots of things about it I wasn't excited about but made the buy anyway because my MBP at the time had a bit of age on it. I could have waited, always an option, but something new is always on the horizon. Question is how big of a change will that "new" be. A processor upgrade is not a big deal to me. I'm very happy to have had use of a faster machine these past few months. 100% no regrets in that regard.

Same here

Well, the sales numbers makes clear that the MacBook Pro is a huge succes.

Wowsers. Someone is a bit touchy about MBP sales. Maybe you were not directly responding to me, I don't know. But my post was not a criticism of MBP sales. Sorry. Probably need to skip up a few posts and read the one I made about my own experience with my 2016 MBP. That said it's not without its faults. Surely you understand there is room for improvement given it's high price point.

Ignore all this, didn't realise these model numbers are old models.

Yeah I think that was back during PPC days.

It's a screaming fast laptop, providing you're judging on real-world performance rather than paper hardware specs.

And nope, I don't ever remember Apple making the fastest laptop in the Intel days. There were always Windows laptops with better hardware specifications, but again, hardware/software balance made for a better product. Possibly the most recent Apple laptop that was the outright most powerful was the TiBook.

The last MBP's with CD drives and the first couple of retina versions were the fastest in their market. You could find specialist windows machines with xeon processors etc. in them but they were about 4 times the price and 4 times size and weight of the MBP.

Instead of bashing Apple, I think you all should counting your blessings you no longer have to wait 3 years for an update to its notebook line. Be happy too, because after this, the next update likely won't be until June 2018, which will be 365 days.

Oh yeah, if we're comparing apples to apples -- power, battery life, and thinness -- the 2016 15" is still the best in its class.

I've never been more excited about an upcoming keynote!! This really is happening.

In the past, spec bumps have had the exact same AXXXX model number.

So I wonder if we should expect more than spec bumps...

?

Who? Not me, read my reaction again ^^ I only stated that the MacbookPro, in the context of sales, is a succes for Apple. I'm not touchy about this what so ever :)

And in the world of computers and in the eye of the beholder there is always room for improvement. That's like an universal law ^^

They can just go ahead and post the new devices on their website now and allow people to pre-order. Its not like the WWDC keynote will be actually exciting. Come on Apple...........

Again MR readers set themselves up for disappointment with lofty (by TC Apple Standards) expectations. Do like me and enjoy a few Jack on the rocks before and during the presentation and you won't feel a bit a pain.

Good advice.
The keynote is at supper time in my country, I'll enjoy a good red wine while watching it

I wouldn't expect some major hardware updates on the Mac, just internals, and I'm not planning to buy one before the end of the year so it doesn't really matter.
I'm just curious about the iPad since I'm an app developer, but I won't buy one for myself either.

Then this would mean spec bumbs for all the desktop macs (even the old 2012 Mac pro?!?). Because all of the 5 mac IDs are already used for desktop macs.
Only the keyboard ID and the 4 iPad IDs are new and are not used at this time.

No way this is only a processor bump. Lets hope that Apple gets the better battery design in the new MacBook Pros.

Of course its only a processor bump. Do you really think they are going to announce a whole new Laptop lineup seven months after the last ones?

That would go down well.

It'll be a bump to Kabylake across the board, maybe increase the BTO RAM options on the 15 inch.

Nothing wrong with the battery life in my current 2016 15" MBP. In fact, it's really good, so is my experience when using it daily.

no problemo!

What else did you expect? They launched a new generation of MacBook Pro less than a year ago and you want a complete redesign again?

Redesign, no
But current rivals are putting in much better GPU and RAM into their laptops, just a simple Kaby lake processor update won't cut it.

Could be in the usual "Apple success" run down -- a one liner about how pros "love" the redesigned MBP and now it's even more powerful..." <mandatory clap, clap, clap by attending Apple employees>. Followed by full press release when event ends.
Nah they won't waste time on it unless they're also announcing something new (like they did with the rMBP in 2012). The only new thing I could think of would be new iMacs though we haven't really heard rumors about that.
