Sales does not equal customer satisfaction. The question is, success by who's standards? I'm playing a little devil's advocate here because companies always bend numbers to their marketing story. It could simply be there were tons of people and businesses that have held out and this is what they got. Maybe they aren't happy with the purchase but they simply couldn't wait any longer.

So point being, it could be pent up demand that couldn't wait any longer but aren't necessarily happy with their purchase. I wouldn't say that's success.

Now in reality, it's probably somewhere in the middle. I've had a few people I know say they love it all the way to the opposite side of they had to swallow it whether it was a corporate purchase or they are too far into the Apple ecosystem.

The truth is they were always going to get criticised whatever they released because of the glacial pace of Mac hardware updates and the general feeling that Apple wasn't giving the Mac much attention.

Throw into the mix the touchbar which certainly isn't for everybody, a significant price increase, social media and internet forums and you have got a recipe for an over the top reaction.

There are a lot of people who have unrealistic expectations though and are always going to be disappointed.

It wouldn't be any different if they "knew" for sure.

Waiting some time now for the mid sized iPad Pro, seems to be the ideal format.

Bring it on, i'll have my finger on the buy-button.

Or how about a dock of some sort (via thunderbolt or USB-C)? I can't imagine (if I'm carrying a laptop back and forth to work) to sit it and plug in multiple devices/wires.

perfectly said. I dock at work, and the new Mac is actually a better solution for that. I use a single adapter that I leave at work with everything plugged in. When I get to work I plug that single cable into the USB-C port. Previously, I would plug 3 or 4 cables into the Mac everyday.

We can only hope they will show their first steps towards their "pro computer line" initiative they announced some weeks ago.

OK, so put these all together and we get....

  • Apple is launching a new wireless keyboard with touch ID (uses crypto).
  • It will work with Mac Pro, iMac and Mac Mini (probably requiring a MacOS update)
  • Therefore Apple needs to re-register those mac models as "containing encryption".

Nothing to see here, move along...

This, along with a potential spec bump for the MBP (which wouldn't require add'l registration).

Current lineup of macbook pros are deprecated already.

You will use ethernet wired but over USB-C/Thudnerbolt instead of the bulky RJ45 which is not suitable for thin laptops.

The Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ already supports it:

True, but to say ethernet/wired (including your example) networking is dead is silly. Wifi is convenient for tablets and moving around with laptops, but wired is still consistently faster and more secure. :)

Looking around office full of MacBook pros - everyone is plugged into Ethernet.

Wifi is too slow when consuming a lot of data.

At my work, artists use desktops which have ethernet and IT takes care of it. Production uses desktops and laptops and those who are on the go have dongles for ethernet. IT takes care of it! None of the people whine about lack of ethernet - its work and IT takes care of it.

Ethernet on mobile devices is dead, people should get over it. Most people don't need it anyway and at work IT makes solutions for their specific setup. No one wants a machine that has all ports on mobile device. Imagine if that was the case, we would never get rid off the stupid cd drives, vga ports etc. Soon we might not need any ports as everything might be over air anyway. So, lets move forward instead of living in the past, shall we?

At my work, we get laptops for portability ( and security ) . You may think ethernet is dead, but others think differently, so stop with this self proclaiming "ethernet is dead"...

Ethernet on small mobile devices ( not laptops ) was never really 'a thing'.

WIFI is still too slow for large amounts of data.

sure, if you have **** internet and equipment. I get 500 up/down at home.

Hmm... think office networking... we all don't use apple laptops for home use, or at starbucks drinking lattes. Again, WIFI is slow for shifting large amounts of data.

Apart from all of the reliable sources who have said there are updated Macs and a maybe a new iPad coming.

Not saying they won't - question is, does this snippet of Russian registration info "prove" it?

It seems pretty unlikely that Apple would re-use the model numbers of desktop systems, some of which are still current, as MBPs.

Whether your using an Adapter or direct ethernet connection - same thing - its a physical connection. OP was talking "ethernet networking to a computer is dead", which is most certainly not.

Yeah, I use Ethernet all the time too. With an adapter. You plug it into the Ethernet cable at your desk and leave it there. Problem solved.

i dont think you understand that WiFi, while generally usable for home, especialyl when it's just streaming media content is more than enough

but in work/enterprise, generally if you're plugging into ethernet, you're doing so for two reasons,

  1. Stability - WiFi, even the best modern AC, can still occasionally have signal interruptions that impact performance
  2. Data Throughput - WiFi's fastest on AC is about 500mbps in most use cases. Wired Ethernet is 1000mbps. when you're doing a tremendous amount of data transmission, like dozens if not hundreds of gigabytes of data, that cuts transfer times by half or more. In addition, Ethernet generally connects the user to a switch, which provides dedicated gigabit speed for each connected device, Where WiFi doesn't.

This has nothing to do with "**** internet and equipment".

What else did you expect? They launched a new generation of MacBook Pro less than a year ago and you want a complete redesign again?
I would really like to see a new IGZO display with smaller bezels. There have been number of issues connected to the previous one so I guess we all hope these will be fixed/improved. It would be great to have a bit better keyboard as my colleagues are complaining about it comparing to the previous one, better dGPU, a stylus support for the huge trackpad would be great. It would be amazing to get a glowing logo back (I personally take removal of this iconic thing as a huge fail - it simply doesn't look as great as it used to look .. but this is rather minor thing;). I'm still "crying" about removed magsafe connector, but I doubt we can expect to get it back :-( .. At least one USB3.1 would be so amazing, but I'm pretty sure this is not gonna happen. There are so many bigger or smaller areas for improvement that I would take only the CPU upgrade as a huge fail again. I'm ready to upgrade my still well working rMBP 2012 as I had to skip the 2017 revision because I simply didn't like it. Apple, please, don't disappoint us again.

I'm pretty sure the point of a laptop is to be mobile and not be tethered to the wall or router/cable modem

The point of a laptop is choice.

I can come to my desk, plug in, transfer what I need, then if I want disconnect and go elsehwere

The point of a laptop isn't JUST to be 100% mobile 100% of the time. That's ludicrous binary thinking
