Why?

Its not like you're using the laptop camera for photography, but rather mostly video conferencing. I don't see any advantage that a 4k facetime camera provides.

I'd go one step further and say I wish Apple had a CTO option to "delete camera." I don't use the camera myself and see it more as a security issue than anything else. I don't go crazy over it and tape it up but I still wonder from time to time given all the crazy spyware stories.

And yet you are still expected to plug into a power plug to get optimum performance , same goes for ethernet. Sadly wireless in many places still sucks......I write this sitting in our work place were we have TB ethernet dongles if we want to get fast transfer speeds.

Plain and simple, ethernet is rock solid, Wireless is not. Especially apple wireless, where each gen is plagued with connection issues. My 2012 was the worst performing wireless laptop ever.....thank god for ethernet

Wireless also sucks on Windows machines so... it's just wireless. :)

At my work, artists use desktops which have ethernet and IT takes care of it. Production uses desktops and laptops and those who are on the go have dongles for ethernet. IT takes care of it! None of the people whine about lack of ethernet - its work and IT takes care of it.

Ethernet on mobile devices is dead, people should get over it. Most people don't need it anyway and at work IT makes solutions for their specific setup. No one wants a machine that has all ports on mobile device. Imagine if that was the case, we would never get rid off the stupid cd drives, vga ports etc. Soon we might not need any ports as everything might be over air anyway. So, lets move forward instead of living in the past, shall we?

What about 10GB Ethernet? Don't underestimate the amount of companies investing in faster ethernet. But true, if it's not IT taking care of a missing ethernet connection then the industry will. You can now buy devices that will translate your 10GB ethernet towards a Thunderbolt 3 solution, but it require some investment since it's not cheap.

As long you'll have an option I'm fine with your suggestion. I do make use of the camera a lot of times when having a Skype meeting with clients but also with friends. In private I make use of the camera using FaceTime when calling to family members. Very handy add on i.m.h.o

How would this work for the orders that were placed prior to the potential introduction of the new models which have not shipped yet because of this delay. The people who'll receive MacBooks next week, after the introduction, will they be receiving the ones they ordered with the old processors, or will they automatically get upgraded models? (I'm asking for a friend :)

I feel sorry for those who jumped ship 6 months ago...
then again, they are probably the same rich people who can buy a laptop again... and again... and again... with all the accessories and peripherals without worries.

Seems a bit of a bitter comment to make. Most people by the MBP for work not to play digital tiddlywinks and tweet all day. I'm sure people who bought it did so only after fully researching it and understanding workflow and appropriateness for what they want to accomplish with it. I know I did and it took me quite a few visits to the store and thought before I brought the card out. I won't need to update for another 2-3 years. I fully understand updates will be out in the interim just like other tech I buy. And when I'm ready to buy again all those updates will be rolled up into my next machine. That's how it goes. So don't cry for me, Argentina.

it may not be dead yet but ethernet is certainly dying and wifi speeds are improving, mainly because Windows laptops are improving the rubbish wifi they have generally had for so long.

There's also the issue of reliability too... the day when WIFI finally kills ethernet is still way off. WIFI performance is increasing, but slowly.

Firstly perhaps the MacBooks are too old if they come with an ethernet and no wonder the wifi is slow, if they are modern MacBooks then they will be using an adaptor so what is the problem?

Nope, we are using dongles to connect to ethernet.

Ethernet is far faster than Wifi. And Secure. And reliable.

We have the option of using Wifi too.. but guess what - no one does at their desks due to the increased performance of a wired network connection.

The only addition I'd like to see with a newer Magic Keyboard would be the inclusion of Touch ID for faster user switching and/or Apple Pay.

Me too - That's it.
The TouchBar makes even LESS sense on an external keyboard.

It would be incredibly awkward to be looking so far down from the screen all the time to touch something and interact consistently.

If they really do that - I'm done listening to them about how "awkward a touch screen Mac would be"...
Yeah - uh huh - Whatever Apple..

I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed. I think the only new products we are going to see are iPads. The Macs listed are all current devicies. A1347 is the current Mac Mini and the chances of Apple actually updating it are very slim as it is pretty much EOL.

Same story here.

I'd be very surprised if this was a redesign of any kind. As others have posted...

Kaby Lake update.
Possibly they're ready to go with the updated battery design? In which case...
Outside chance of a 32gb RAM BTO 15"?

Really? Tell us something we don't know Captain Condescension. If you're not interested in the question then don't reply.

I'm happy to entertain the thought of a new 17". They're obviously still being made by some manufacturers so there is still a market for it.

Sorry to offend you lol, sometimes you have to help people let go.... I'm here to help my fellow Macrumors brethen let go of the past and move on..... its ok to let go you too can give up the dream and move on with your life! :D

Because a new 17"Macbook Pro would weigh less than a 2011 15"Macbook pro.

A 17"model is what I want. The 2012 15" I own is too small. I have no desire to purchase another 15". I'll keep using the one I have now and replacing the keys as they wear out.

But with the new retina displays wouldn't you get the same screen real estate out of the 15" laptops with the resolution cranked up? thats assuming the user has good enough eyesight to handle the smaller views.

Can't wait for desktop updates

This person was also waiting for new Apple desktops...

That would be interesting. I can see no camera being good to save a little money, along with the security benefits.

I'd also like to see a new bluetooth keyboard with a number pad (yes, I and several coworkers still use that!) along with maybe a touchbar instead of function keys. Not a necessity, but would go with the style of new MacBook Pros. I'd also like maybe a female lightning port so you can just take your iPhone/iPad cord & charge it. Put the port on the back like the current USB keyboard instead of the bottom like the mouse so you can actually use it while charging.

I expect more in case they announce it during the keynote. Just CPU would be usually handled as a silent refresh this week.

Except, around now is roughly when the Kaby Lake MBPs were likely to be available anyway so why not announce them at WWDC? They'll be taking the store down anyway to add the (expletive deleted) Siri smart speaker.

Yeah, its a "developers" conference... apart from the keynote speech which has long been a media circus and has been used to launch hardware in the past.

  • The cheese grater Mac Pro come back temporarily until the promised new Mac Pro arrives. Lots have pro users have been calling for this.

Whoop!! Now that would be something to look forward to! Apple would still have to tweak the cheese grater case to make it compliant with EU regulations though.
