A significant issue here is that many remote PC-type apps have been approved and downloaded tons of times in the App Store. Apps that allow users to connect remotely to their computer to play games, if they so choose.

Explain why this isn't a case of discrimination if those apps are acceptable, by all means. I'm open to enlightenment.

Because of the walled garden approach that Apple implements with their app store, they're especially subject to scrutiny for anti-competetive practices. They've already had US lawmakers and EU officials question their approach to Spotify and others' apps and services.

They better tread carefully here.

If Steam makes games purchasable via the app, Apple will approve it.

Let Apple know your disappointment, anger or rage with regards to this decision. I'm not a gamer, but I can certainly sympathize those that are.

That doesn't address my statement above. Let's say I have games loaded on my PC and use an approved remote desktop-App to play them. I can do that now. Why is this different?

Apple did not receive a revenue share of the games on my PC.

No great loss. I absolutely love my steam link and don't own an Apple TV. This just reaffirms that there's zero reason for me to own an Apple TV.

Hey Timmy Crook, the more you try to grasp in your grubby little paws, the more that will slip through until you've got nothing left but filthy hands.

It was denied on "business conflicts", which has long been Apple's goto for denying high profile apps they don't like. Especially ones that they're gearing up to add their on version of the functionality the app is offering. Or apps they feel are trying to get around their 30% cut on everything passing through their OSes.

Apple should be pitchforked until proven innocent.

I do love guilty until proven innocent. And by love, I mean hate.

Any day now, Apple is going to start losing money. Any day now.

It's what happens when a party is the bad faith actor, and has been caught out being the bully in the past. I have 0 good faith left for Apple, they need to prove their innocence first.

But is Steam a good faith actor on their end? I have zero faith that Valve didn’t know something was wrong before they submitted. Their crying on Twitter isn’t helping.

Definitely not this year, probably not next year or the year after. Maybe in 5 years.

But you must understand that when they pass the critical mass of people sick of the BS, they're over the cliff and there's no coming back. And as I type this on my 2017 MBP, I certainly don't want to see Apple fail. Timmy has to go.

That's about my take. It took about 5 years for all of us who used to recommend Apple products to family and friends to help build them to the point they're at today. It will take 5-ish years to strip them back down as we move family and friends back off their platforms.

Why must Tim go? Apple is better off with him at the helm than with anyone else working there right now. And definitely better off than if Forstall was around.

Rejecting a great app like Steam Link, wow what a move again. They should be ashamed. Good thing I own an Sony with Android TV. I don't even know what they're whining about. This is all about playing AAA games on your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV instead of these crap games in the App Store.

Why should they be ashamed? Do you think it would be ok for Burger King to sell burgers inside a McDonalds? Didn’t think so.

I believe he is pointing out the Apple execs in general are SJW's (which is not inaccurate, unfortunately) not saying this instance is social justice.

And I think he’s just using SJW as an insult because he doesn’t have an argument.

I wish Apple would just decide what it wanted. It killed Game Center, basically killing all achievements in games (yes I know they are there, but if only YOU can see them... umm... what's the point?), endorsing Freemium and "Gatcha" games all the time on the App Store, giving a shoddy, bare-bones gaming experience on the Apple TV. So sick of them being half-there, half-not, almost as if embarrassed of games and the people who enjoy them. Pick a side Apple, enough of being spineless...

Yeah. Let’s hope they do something about that, but I don’t have much hope. They’re just going to tout how many moneys their GPU can draw.

Horsecrap! I can’t remember the last times I was excited about an app.

F U Apple and your greedy ****.

You were excited for a mediocre app whose functionality is already in several apps on the store already?

this is probably the most inaccurate statement I've heard on this board in weeks.

Tim Cook was a logistics/supply chain guy all he cares about is maximizing efficiency/profit.
its like he had a child's understanding of what Jobs wanted to accomplish, and his take away was lighter & thinner for lighter & thinner's sake, then he used his skill set to continue what he thought the goals were.

in my opinion, they should have made Scott Forstall CEO, they needed young blood & passion at the helm not a bean counter.

I can't buy Kindle books via the app, but that is allowed. I can't buy Kobo books in the app, but that is allowed.

This policy is ridiculous. Every time a story like this comes up, I make the same point. If an in-app purchase is hosted on Apples servers, they easily deserve the 30% cut. If it comes from an outside server, they should have no claim to it. And since Steam games don't even run on the Apple TV / iOS device, this makes even less sense. The Apple TV / iOS device is just being used as a display for something running on a real PC in this case.

or he's inferring what Apples doing as SJW like because many of the causes they have are similar and they are doing things to the detriment of there core user base which is a negative and because SJW's are also a negive it further solidifies his opinions, speaking of which why do you say Apple isn't full of SJW's?

Nope, I kid you not MacOS is in fact not the same a Windows also Hackintoshing is against Apple's EULA and as for IOS i couldn't even attempt to install it on a non-apple based ARM processor

and that's just the software don't get me started on there strong-arming US customs and there user-hostile stance on right to repair.
funny for being commodity PC hardware Macs are pretty locked down

Wow, great comparison. I forgot that I can play AC: Origins, Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty: WWII and Kingdom Come on my iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. According to you Apple should also remove Google Maps, Netflix, Hulu, Google Play and every app that competes with them. Denying Steam Link shows Apple's arrogance. Should we add some functionality to the Apple TV? How about no, because people wouldn't buy Duck Run, Saga Candy Crush, Where's Waldo and other crap games.
