A small update in the conflict between @steam_games and Apple: Steam now confirms that they had disabled the ability to make purchases in the iOS app. Apple still has not commented on why they rejected Steam's app.

this is probably the most inaccurate statement I've heard on this board in weeks.

Tim Cook was a logistics/supply chain guy all he cares about is maximizing efficiency/profit.
its like he had a child's understanding of what Jobs wanted to accomplish, and his take away was lighter & thinner for lighter & thinner's sake, then he used his skill set to continue what he thought the goals were.

in my opinion, they should have made Scott Forstall CEO, they needed young blood & passion at the helm not a bean counter.

Apple is doing more projects than they ever were before. Scott Forstall would have made great iPhones, maybe iPads, and Macs for sure. But expanding beyond that wouldn’t have likely happened.

or he's inferring what Apples doing as SJW like because many of the causes they have are similar and they are doing things to the detriment of there core user base which is a negative and because SJW's are also a negive it further solidifies his opinions, speaking of which why do you say Apple isn't full of SJW's?

Nope, I kid you not MacOS is in fact not the same a Windows also Hackintoshing is against Apple's EULA and as for IOS i couldn't even attempt to install it on a non-apple based ARM processor

and that's just the software don't get me started on there strong-arming US customs and there user-hostile stance on right to repair.
funny for being commodity PC hardware Macs are pretty locked down

Having a monopoly on one part of a market isn’t a thing. Does Arby’s have a monopoly on Arby’s restaurants? How about McDonalds or Dairy Queen with their respective places?

I’m able to use Remote Desktop Apps to access my PC, purchase games from the Windows App Store, and play those games without Apple receiving a share of Windows App Store revenue.

Why is this different?

Does Apple ever comment?

Likely what it’s being advertised for.
Accessing a 3rd-party computer?

Edit: my point remains - on its face this is blatant discrimination by Apple, the gatekeeper to all apps which seek to be installed on iOS devices. They really need to tread carefully here.

I wouldn’t throw the word discrimination here so fast. But I don’t know all the facts yet and nobody else here does either.

They do reverse decisions. We still don’t know why this was initially approved and subsequently rejected.

Yeah. I want to know why it is they rejected it. I was just saying that beyond reversing it, they don’t say much. Phil Schiller and Tim Cook are probably talking as we speak. I doubt either of them really knew much about this before now.

On its face, this is discrimination. I’m wide open to considering otherwise, but I’ve stated my rationale and I stand behind it.

We don’t know the exact reason beyond “business conflict in the app guidelines”. Which, if it’s in the guidelines? I can’t say I really feel bad for Valve.

Then again, I find Valve complaining about a single app getting denied after recent events to be pretty stupid.

If you move to Android to run Steam games shittily, that’s amazing.
But Android phones have better gpu performance, and better radio/modems in them. Which means Androids would run games better than the latest iPhone. But even more so now, being that Apple can't run any steam games, AT ALL. Stupid decisions are making many consider the move to Android, as you can see from the multitude of angry customers.

I am usually the one defending apple against the hoards of negative nellies.

But Apple! This sucks!

Stupid and short sighted.

The app was initially approved, resulting in Valve having bloggers review it. The bloggers raved and commented along the lines that they couldn’t believe Apple approved it; it was a threat to Apple’s gaming-based revenue in the App Store. The app is subsequently re-reviewed and denied approval.

The app allows users to access Valve third-party hardware capabilities along with a third-party App Store for which Apple would not receive revenue on sales. Just like every other Remote Desktop-type app that allows one to access a Windows, Chrome, or other computer.

:(

Imvho, it is Apples right and choice. I came here thinking I might switch to IOS or Mac, to learn something. I learned Apple is not for me. Thought y'all had it flush here in the walled garden with seamless integration and ease. Really its like the stone ages. Mobile gaming is so easy to go from phone to TV to tablet with Android. Quality of the games is great to. I learned most everything is also easier on Android. Truth be told my V30S is as fast and easier to use than the iPhone X. I thought the grass was greener over here but the "Walled Garden"grass is browner after all.

Why should they be ashamed? Do you think it would be ok for Burger King to sell burgers inside a McDonalds? Didn’t think so.
I am amazed that anyone would seriously defend this with that argument. If that is reality then it is time for me to work on leaving Apple behind. I prefer a platform not designed around monopolistic practices. I can accept denying apps based upon security risks or because APIs are misused, but to ban an app due to fearing competition is absolute bs.

The fact it was approved and then rejected makes me think the rejection came from high up. I don’t think it was just someone in app review making a mistake.

I respect and appreciate Apple instituting a walled garden approach. It’s part of why I’m dedicated to using their products and services.

But that approach brings a heightened responsibility to not engage in monopolistic and discriminatory practices, especially as their products and services have reached such a massive global scale of adoption.

I imagine this situation will result in further clarification and detail of app approval policy.

I hope this doesn’t remain some closed secret at Apple.

Is that true with the Adreno 630 and the A11 GPU? If so, then you should go to Android if you want to run games I guess.

The fact it was approved and then rejected makes me think the rejection came from high up. I don’t think it was just someone in app review making a mistake.

That makes sense.
