I get what you're saying but then why does Apple allow Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Spotify, Google etc..onto their platform? Last time I checked Apple wasn't being destroyed for allowing movies, books, tv, or music onto their platform. Why are games any different?

Whatever reason Apple had for doing this it just comes off as mean spirited to both their customers and Steam itself. Steam Link should never have been approved only to revoke it later.

I agree. Steam Link should never have Ben approved.

As a hardcore PC gamer with a GTX 1080 Ti gaming rig this really sucks. Hey Timmy, you need to realise all those crap games in the App Store don’t come close to real games like Battlefield, Far Cry and Assassins Creed.

Any Corp is gonna protect their turf. I'd make the same decision.
It has nothing to do with "protecting their turf". Apple has to provide similar features that their competitors offer. Streaming games to a phone...... that's the kind of thing ill switch to android over.

Then right now is the perfect time. Android phones have never been better, though I’d wait for the Pixel 3 XL if you want updates faster.

Pointless playing PC games on a 6 inch screen. This needs a tablet which Android lacks. The iPad was the only awesome tablet around and it could have been fun playing On the ProMotion display. They should just scrap the idea as PC games would be unplayable on such a small screen.

Have you thought about a Chrome OS tablet that runs Android apps?

Protect their turf... from what exactly?

This is just a (well made) LAN gameplay app. None of the games are available on iOS.

God, it's simple. Apple doesn't have a cut on what people buy on STEAM.
And they gonna use their hardware including Apple TV. That's huge business conflict.

If Apple continue with actions like this, it will be the tipping point for me switch back to Android.

Gaming to be a focus at WWDC..?
Given the (not well documented, but definitely known) hatred of games by Apple, I cannot imagine that.
Not implementing Vulkan, lagging behind on OpenGL, and having its own proprietary API - Metal - makes it not that easy for game-devleopers to focus on macOS.

The best games are still the ones ported over from Windows by Feral and Aspyr.

Of course, the excellent X-Plane 11 will eventually move over from OpenGL to Metal (and Vulkan earlier on Windows..) as a real cross-platorm non-ported game (eh... SIM), but it only states how hard that is to do.

I just looked, there are other game streaming apps on the app store such as moonlight.

Btw, looking at other comments, people do realise that 10 inch Android tablets exist?

This has made my decision to buy xbox or playstation a lot easier. Now wondering if I need a iMac upgrade.

Bad Apple. At least be consistent and ban Netflix, Spotify, Kindle, or anything else which circumvents the 30% Apple tax for competitor content.

Exist doesn’t mean they’re relevant.
iPad is the only successful tablet around.

What is with you people comparing movies/music with app/games.

Sure apple also sells/rents apple-branded music and movies but it’s completely different compared to an ecosystem of thousands game devs thriving in the appstore.

It’s not (only?) about the cut..

Thanks Apple. The app I couldn't wait to try is no more.

For the first time since Androids invention, I am considering switching now. The cards are so stacked in its favour it now isn't funny.

When you miss out on one or two apps or features that isn't so bad but now Android is streets ahead of Apple, the hardware is just as good (and cheaper) and it is starting to lure me to the dark side.

I love the Apple kit, I love the operating system, drool over the new tech as it is announced and all shiny in the store but the actual usage and apps? Falling wayyyyyyyyy behind. When the fanboys start complaining it is time to start rethinking decisions.

The majority of the games on Steam are not available on the App Store. But media content from the other apps is, why are they not a conflict?

Who needs that when you have 1000+ candy crush and slot machine games...

Apple doesn’t want to share their piece of the pie simple as that.

I used to be an Apple evangelist (Macbook Pros, iPhones, iPads, etc. My entire household embraced the whole Apple ecosystem).

Unfortunately, for the last few months, I have been migrating away to Android + Windows due to some of Apple's dubious moves as of lately:
  • Macbook Pro's horrible keyboard and useless touchbar. I switched to a Surface Book 2.
  • iPad's iOS11 was a terrible letdown, with limited multitasking and gimped file sharing. I switched to an Android Tablet.
  • iPhone X being over $1,000 and small screen. I switched to a Galaxy Note 8.
So yeah... I am going to skip the next generation of Apple products. Nothing they sell at the moment excites me, to be honest. I'm seeing more dynamism on the Android/Windows field, so that's where I'll camp for the next couple of years until Apple/iOS re-invents itself.

I personally find it HILARIOUS that there are users that care more to protect "apples business strategy" than to have this app on their devices. This is the reason why people use the word sheep, because these kinds of moves do not benefit the customer AT ALL. I believe Apple is not going to let this app fly due to them not getting a cut from sales, as well as being the laughing stock of the gaming world due to having lackluster gpu's. If anyone was to compare the average pc to mac, the pc would run circles around the Macs when it comes to gaming.

It's a loss alright since there will yet be another thing that people on Android can do but can't do on iPhone. There shall be even more people move to Android just for this.

Exactly this !!!

My friends use torrent client on android. No problems. Download a movie in background. Use splitscreen on 5,5" device to watch series and browse the web or check social media. Things I simply can't do with my iPhone plus ! Apple should finally open up.

Not even gonna lie, I chuckled too hard from that, but it's so true!
